Can't name my Vulture "Slave 1"

Was notified by a cmdr that my ship name was blocked (*****), and so I changed it back and went about my business. Then a few hours later it dawned on me- ED has slave(s) in their game! Now I'm not one to ever demand anything from a game company (at least not seriously) but I think I might have to make an exception this one time. I find it a bit hypocritical that they can use the word slave but I can't, and mine is only on one ship, not thousands of commodity and mission boards lol.

FD I demand my ship name to be un-asterisked this instant or I will totally shut up and keep happily playing as if none of this ever happened!!

Did I do it right?

I was under the impression that if a player reported a name it would be ***** out. So it could just be someone reported it and it was * out without even being looked at.

Side note I think you needed more toys being thrown out of your pram to make the complaint valid :p

Possibly, but it was the first cmdr I saw that told me about it. If you type something in to the ship name in the livery, will it tell you if it is blocked?

Ahh well good to know, I'll have to step it up a notch next time ;)

Slv-1, thats my imperial cutters id number. Works out ok. The actual name is "Freedom" Express,

Frontier have applied a generic filter to the game, it has nothing to do with reporting. Afaik if you get reported and it's a valid report then it just gets added to the filter rather than them opening your game account to edit it manually.

You personally can see anything you type but others will see the *s. Chances are it was *ed out from day 1 but you didn't realise as nobody saw/told you.


Anyway, the short answer is to submit a support ticket if you believe your name is valid, if they agree they will remove it from the filter. There's been a few connecting words that have been caught out accidentally too.

Good shout regarding your ship name (and I am annoyed I didn't think of it first:)) but as we know the sweary filter is harsh!

Gotcha thanks for the info, to be honest I wish it would tell me that it's blocked lol. I assume that if a multiple word name has a blocked word, the whole name is blocked?

Thanks, and don't worry I felt dumb because as big of a fan as I am of Futurama, I didn't think of naming my DBS and DBX "Scooty Puff Jr. & Sr." until I saw another Cmdr with one :)

Don't think so, post #15 there says it's just the middle bit that is censored out.

That thread also shows a pretty epic turnaround time on the submitted ticket, I've just realised within 2 hours he had a response from support with the name whitelisted so it's visible (post #30 on that thread).

Wow that was pretty spiffy on their part. FD support has to be some of the best I've ever dealt with. I remember when I bought my first ship skin online (PC) instead of the Xbox store version, cleared it up in like a day! I'll see what they can do about it Monday, thanks for the link!

Ive done quite a few tests with the name filter and its seems even though the words are in game in someway they cant be used as names.

However i have a name which im suprised hasnt been filtered.

Yeah, the filter implementation is very... Special. I, personally, do get mildly amused by clever ship names, even childish ones. I'm a big enough and old enough adult to handle these sorts of things. ED really needs an "opt out" option.

I mean, when the very name of the ship type can't be used in it's name? Try using "Assault" in the name of your ship, and see if anyone can see it.

Indeed. I have a friend that had his ship name *'d out because the absolutely clean and polite word did contain the letters a,s,s in the middle of it. I always laugh at this hypocrisiy of today's world; kids today play games where they brutally murder other people, engage in human trafficking, smuggle narcotics and weapons, but god forbid they hear a word for the human rear end because clearly, this will destroy their childhood and turn them into crazed arsonist sex offenders. FDev, your filters are a bit special. Not in a good way.

That actually reeks of microsofts heavy handed policy, same thing used to happen when you tried to rename classes in COD
