PS4/PS4 Pro info?

There's some links on the previous page of PS4 footage - its only the training scenarios but shows how the dualshock touchpad is incorporated

Cheers, yeah I've watched those but it's hard to judge as they're taken off a 'test' console and the tutorials act slightly differently than the game proper especially load times (which did look speedy)

I'm thinking the first real look we're gonna get is when we boot it up for the first time tbh :/

Hence why I am almost begging FDev to show us some actual footage. :(

You beg and I'll just moan alot :) hopefully they'll release something to shut us up!

At the very least an Ed livescreen showing some real gameplay would probably shut everyone up :D it's not like elite is some top secret new game lol, it's two years old on xbox next month :/

This is what makes me just a little nervous, why the big secret? Surely its working now? :)

This too...

Hey Ifred and all.

I just wanted to post a very quick reply on here to let you know that we are absolutely listening. We know that the community have been asking for some more news on the development and roadmap of Elite. The team are still very busy working on content and improvements and we're hoping to be able to share some more details as soon as possible.

Thanks for your patience.

FDev, any news? Maybe we can lobby DF to do some comparisons after launch. :)

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-tekken-7-face-off

For those looking for a true full HD release, PS4 Pro delivers the goods, handing in 1080p plus improved effects work from the range of presets otherwise only available to PC owners. Texture filtering is upgraded across the board, but it also appears that Tekken 7 can adjust the quality of its post-process pipeline dynamically in order to keep its 60fps lock. We noticed improved lighting in like-for-like scenarios captured on base and then Pro, for example. But curiously, when we switch to an online match, capturing both PS4 and Pro in the same game, the enhancements disappear - you get exactly the same presentation.

Having a dynamic setup in place makes any firm comparison between versions tricky. But one thing is certain: on the console front, PS4 Pro taps into higher quality texture filtering and post-effects where and when it can, while PS4 is otherwise identical to it in most other respects - though running at 864p. In motion, it's only really the resolution differential that sticks out, but evidently, PS4 Pro is pushing better effects whenever it can afford it. And what's more, once again you still get a solid 60fps line all the way through battle.

I'm sure that our Marketing and Community Teams will be making announcements and releasing further information regarding the PlayStation version of Elite Dangerous during the run up to launch.

Looking forward to it. ;)

Also, where is Lloyd Morgan-Moore the PS4 producer? :) Hello Lloyd o/

There have been a few official rumors (printed by gaming news sources) that Sony will either announce a new Playstation Pro - perhaps a "slim" version, or the PS5. If they announce the PS5, it won't likely be available until next year. I'm a bit dubious about a PS5 announcement so soon after the PS4 Pro release. A PS4 Pro slim, on the other hand, may very well be something announced now and released in the Fall. Just in case anyone wants to wait a little longer on buying that Pro. I for one am glad I waited for the PS4 Slim (non pro).

I'd personally assume Sony want to make some money and would wait for any release of PS4 Pro Slim or PS5. :) Until PS4 Pro and Slim actually sell a few. ;) They have not even been out a year yet!

Bare in mind the PS4 was released in November 2013. Pro and Slim November/September 2016. I seriously doubt they will be pushing new console hardware anytime soon.

Sony will probably see how Scorpio goes first and of course are concentrating on PSVR. If anyone is buying a PS4 for the first time and is new to the game I see little point in buying the Slim (unless you are strapped for cash).

I very much hope you are right. One of the things that attracted me to consoles was getting off the "upgrade hamster wheel" of PC gaming that basically required buying new hardware for every other new game that was released. I actually prefer a longer upgrade cycle. I think most developers do too. I very much like that games get better over time on console hardware as developers learn how the ins and outs of that specific platform.

Hey now, I thought we agreed to no "Pro snobbery" ;) I chose the Slim over the Pro for a variety of reasons.

Ditto. However the signs do not look good. We've already has the PS4 Pro and now Scorpio already. PS3/Xbox 360 had ten years. I don't think we will see that for this gen, but I hope so.

to be honest i hope one day they design an upgradeable playstation/xbox so instead of needing to buy a new console every few years, we by a console and then just pay for upgrades if/when needed would solve the whole pc/console cold war

Keep dreaming, buddy. If anything, the upgradable PC is going away (someday). Companies love to sell you disposable products. Just look at the phone market with their non-replaceable batteries. BATTERIES...

On the plus side, SOC (system on a chip) allows for greater performance at a lower cost. Also, if I do feel the need to upgrade to a Pro, I can use my old PS4 Slim to multicrew with myself; can't do that with an old video card sitting in the drawer.

I've heard some worrying rumours that Sony and Microsoft are taking a serious look at streaming games rather than selling consoles (like PS Now but for current gen).
Not sure how it would work probably via usb/bt dongle to TV and monthly subscriptions for certain game packages.
I know a lot of content in online games is streamed to some extent already but I just really don't like the idea.
