Doesn't look like we'll need a Beta thread (especially as it is an Open beta), though I suppose if 'certain systems' are unlocked....
it isn't

Which is exactly my point, if barnacles are all on planets rich in arsenic, who's to say its not extracting that arsenic? So what would happen if we dropped some arsenic near the barnacle? The barnacle is almost like a refinery, it takes the raw ore, turns it into something, which the unknown ship then absorbs. These planets may have similar elements that we can salvage by shooting rocks, which is probably much more primitive and time consuming then using barnacles which could absorb bulk minerals and nutrients and then pass it onto the unknown ship, the meta-alloy could just be a waste product from this process. I'll look more into this myself today, nothing else to do at work. What happens if a large amount of the nutrients the barnacle is seeking is dropped near one? Would it absorb those minerals and process it into whatever the unknown ship absorbs? perhaps this is a way to trigger the barnacle becoming "full" and transmitting a signal to the ship for pickup.
From the new patch notes (Beta 2.3.10):
Installations/POIs/USSs
- Fixed an issue whereby the Technology 06 codex entry was missing from Ancient Ruins

If Barnacles were just on planets rich in Arsenic then that would make sense but they arn't just on planets rich in Arsenic.
How can we "drop arsenic" or any material ?
that will be my first task once i log in! if you can jettison cargo why not materials?
"Jettison" is the same thing than "discard" ?
It's just a question, as my "Englich iz teribble "
And you may find this useful:
kind of, but its only used when throwing or dropping something specifically from an aircraft or ship ....... I think!

Only problem with these fancy Canonn ruin maps is they don't show where the ancient items are - just spent 20 minutes hooning around an Alpha site looking for an Orb so I can verify Tech 6 in Beta to no avail. Time for a break!

And you may find this useful: (use the barnacle materials tab)
To stop people trading in materials for engineers

Hi Commanders.
I've been trying to program a Python program to work out when the alien ship encounters might happen. Here is a screenshot of the output:

Basically, it says alien encounters happen from 1:31 to 2:00, from 9:31 to 10:00 and from 17:31 to 18:00 each day.
Another Commander (I'm not sure who) said the alien encounters happened around the half hour. My program output supports that.
I'm not a great programmer, so it might not be accurate.
Hope it's useful, and fly safe CMDRs.

Edit: The hour on the bottom section should be increased by 1. I don't know how I didn't spot that. Also, this is for Solo mode.
So some people are convinced that the answer encoding is base 3. What is the problem with base 3? Well, quite frankly it's too primitive. Certainly you can represent a number 0-7 but this isn't nearly enough to represent an entire message by itself.
