Doesn't look like we'll need a Beta thread (especially as it is an Open beta), though I suppose if 'certain systems' are unlocked....

it isn't

Which is exactly my point, if barnacles are all on planets rich in arsenic, who's to say its not extracting that arsenic? So what would happen if we dropped some arsenic near the barnacle? The barnacle is almost like a refinery, it takes the raw ore, turns it into something, which the unknown ship then absorbs. These planets may have similar elements that we can salvage by shooting rocks, which is probably much more primitive and time consuming then using barnacles which could absorb bulk minerals and nutrients and then pass it onto the unknown ship, the meta-alloy could just be a waste product from this process. I'll look more into this myself today, nothing else to do at work. What happens if a large amount of the nutrients the barnacle is seeking is dropped near one? Would it absorb those minerals and process it into whatever the unknown ship absorbs? perhaps this is a way to trigger the barnacle becoming "full" and transmitting a signal to the ship for pickup.

If Barnacles were just on planets rich in Arsenic then that would make sense but they arn't just on planets rich in Arsenic.

I want to be happy the ruins mission is actually able to be completed now... but it really took six months to fix? Considering we it never would've even been known had the mission not been "solved" through the use of the Open/PG modeswitching bugs, resulting in Ram Tah's scanner mods to find them easier... all I can really hope is that FD has taken a long hard look at all the issues that essentially wrecked what should have been a great exploration experience in the game, and have learned from them for whatever comes in the future.

Something something bah humbug get off my lawn, but it's hard to get excited by this news.

Hi Commanders.
I've been trying to program a Python program to work out when the alien ship encounters might happen. Here is a screenshot of the output:
sEiFvtH.jpg

Basically, it says alien encounters happen from 1:31 to 2:00, from 9:31 to 10:00 and from 17:31 to 18:00 each day.
Another Commander (I'm not sure who) said the alien encounters happened around the half hour. My program output supports that.
I'm not a great programmer, so it might not be accurate.
Hope it's useful, and fly safe CMDRs.

Edit: The hour on the bottom section should be increased by 1. I don't know how I didn't spot that. Also, this is for Solo mode.

From the new patch notes (Beta 2.3.10):

  • Fixed an issue whereby the Technology 06 codex entry was missing from Ancient Ruins

;)

you ninjad me!!

If Barnacles were just on planets rich in Arsenic then that would make sense but they arn't just on planets rich in Arsenic.

I was using Arsenic as an example, I need to go over the planets where barnacles are located and compare and contrast the minerals native to the planets across the board, as well as shooting the barnacles and outcroppings to determine if there are anomalies in what is available for us on planet. For instance perhaps the barnacles are able to drop a mineral not naturally found on that particular planet.

Given that the alien-ship-sucking-energy-thing lifts rocks, Scarabs (and ships??) off the ground, is it actually factoring in the planet's correct gravity? I don't think it'd teach us anything in any way - but it'd be fun to watch if small ships are lifted on low-G planets, or if SRV were dropped like an anvil on high-G worlds.

Only problem with these fancy Canonn ruin maps is they don't show where the ancient items are - just spent 20 minutes hooning around an Alpha site looking for an Orb so I can verify Tech 6 in Beta to no avail :( . Time for a break!

"Jettison" is the same thing than "discard" ?
It's just a question, as my "Englich iz teribble "

And you may find this useful: (use the barnacle materials tab)

I was just looking over that, quite interesting! I can cross reference some of the planets with EDSM which has drop rates for materials on some planets.

To stop people trading in materials for engineers

well back to the drawing board again.

If you do manage to find if its fixed do let us know, i was planning on doing that this weekend in addition to the beta only cg's. alas there is only so much time in a day.

That doesn't help much unless you could tell us which time zone the times are for.... is it in-game time?

So some people are convinced that the answer encoding is base 3. What is the problem with base 3? Well, quite frankly it's too primitive. Certainly you can represent a number 0-7 but this isn't nearly enough to represent an entire message by itself.

While I like the idea of using base 36, I don't get how you think base 3 can encode numbers 0-7.

In my eyes, base 3 is the counting system that goes 1, 2, 10, 11, 12, 20, 21, 22, 100, 101, 102, etc. How does that logically produce 0..7?

Delighted to see this in the beta notes! Might find Tech 6 later tonight!!!!
