FDEV - List of approved exploits please

Hi

With the latest in the long line of exploits in your fine game, you have started to throw around the TOS. Good stuff! Lets stamp out this cheating!

So there is no confusion. Can we please have a list of exploits which you are happy with and ones which now will result in a game ban?

So abusing RNGesus is ban territory. What is the trigger level 1 roll or 100+?
Assuming Combat Logging is in there somewhere?
Credit Exploits? Robigo, Quince, Fehu?
Joining a Multicrew ship, while you are in combat?
Rolling in and our of modes to refresh and stack missions?
Crack Train?

Also how far back is your investigation planning on going?

There have been so many exploits that I fear most of the player base is due a game ban.

Thanks

I haven't played much. What is this latest exploit that's caused FD to use their ToS?

Engineers are 100% RNG. The new exploit (getting grade 5 upgrades for grade 1 cost) means you can spam the hell out of them to get the best roll you can, thus negating RNG to an extent.

Oh dear... Yeah, FD needs to fix that.

Copied from reddit post now deleted: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/6fv66l/fdev_list_of_approved_exploits_please/
so I will spam away with the same reply I gave on reddit:

Combat logging yes. Credit exploits should be but are not.

Multicrew whilst in combat is not.

Modeswitching is not.

Crack train is not (also technically mode-switching).

No confusion at all. All of these have been either specifically mentioned by FDev or have been high profile enough that if they were an issue there would have been a statement against.
Mode-switching was confirmed officially as unintended but also confirmed they wouldn't punish players who did it.

The recent exploit in question which sparked this was quite hidden away and required a specific sequence to access. It was not widely known or made public but was used and kept quiet by a few specific sub-group(s) of players for their own gain. This is the first time it's become widely known and some users are not remorseful and have stated they intend to continue using it as they don't fear FDev at all and are basically laughing at them because they don't expect to be banned.

Arguably some/all of the list above should be exploits but all except combat logging rely on mode-switching which isn't something FDev can patch out at the moment without a server interaction re-write... Its an issue with offering multiple game-modes in the same universe that we've had since day 0.

Just do any you please OP, if questioned, just remark that you are "From a large clan/group/herd of well known players, whom has had many, many PR stunts and in game favouritisms thrown your way and that (most importantly) that you are a PvPer!", you'll walk away and maybe even get a reward! Some free credits, God mode, etc. etc., just don't say you want C&P, if by mistake you do say it, just CL, they love that and think it's very cool. Do fly safe! O7

I'm surprised to hear that RNG abuse invokes a ban, given the number of people that must be on that list. I'd rather see their engineering effects wiped across the board, that way they lose their ill-gotten advantage but still have the option of playing. Sure, some might ragequit, but not all.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
How about when it looks like an exploit and feels like an exploit you just don't do it?

If I had to guess, I'd say this. :)

As with anything, if something rises above a certain subjective threshold it's gonna be an issue. The official stance is 'don't abuse the system.'

It's not new though. It's over a year old. The public just heard about it.

My rule of thumb seems to be if you think it's an exploit. It's probably in a grey area and you shouldn't really be doing it anyway.

If you know it's an exploit, it's an exploit.

I could never publically condemn mode-switching and Robigo or rares. I never did those things but if members of the PI did it, I wouldn't 'have a word with them' over it.

The moment this popped on my radar I made it clear to the PI's members that our 'official' policy is this is something we don't do. It was clearly way over the line.

Which makes it worse IMO.

Hopefully, Frontier pulls their finger out of the proverbial, and actually say "This is OUR game, not yours, and you will play by OUR rules, or not at all."

Don't ban the people using the exploit. Just wipe their save, and blacklist their accounts so they can't use engineers.

Heh, that reminds me of Dara O'Briain:

There are 3 states of Irish law:
All this stuff over here that falls under: "That's grand"
Then there's this stuff here thats: "Ah, now, don't push it"
Finally there's these things here which are: "Right! Now your taking the mick. And that's where the police sweep in" <- Censored to Mick.
