Empire, Federation or Alliance

I'm Petty Officer fed rank on my Xbox account, so was going to go Empire, but I don't really like the Clipper or the Cutter so think I'll go Fed again, just to see how much I can rank up. Plus, the Corvette is fantastic. I'll probably grind Empire after that
Don't forget the imperial courier. With upgraded drives, she is verrrry fast :)

I will probably support a more minor faction. Out of those three, it would be the hippie Alliance ;)

That said, I plan to unlock the Fed and Emp for the ships, not to support them. The Emp ships are really sexy looking and quick. The Feds take a beating. I can find uses for both while supporting someone else.

see to be honest, i want the sol permit and courier, but don't want to lose my independent status. decisions, decisions. need advice

Federation through and through (even turned on my forum post background showing the Federation logo :) )

As an RPGer from way back, I tend to stick to my preferred character backstory as much as possible.

I take role-playing pretty seriously, too. That's why I'm not joining any weird factions like "The Yogurt-Eating Pirates" that kinda break the immersion with their "weirdness". No offense to anyone who's a yogurt-eating pirate - I eat yogurt, and I may be a pirate, or at the very least a privateer, in certain systems, but my faction needs a cool, serious name with a cool, serious agenda.

In so much as it's going to be run by a duck, "Migration Station" comes to mind.

Yeah the Courier is nice, will definitely rank up enough in the Empire to get that.

I like the look of the Imperial Eagle but performance wise its lacking, i've seen milk turn faster. Could maybe engineer it

Haha, I highly doubt I'll start a faction, unless people force me to be their king, as sometimes happens in history. I might not even join a faction, at least not right away. If / when I do, it needs to have both a cool (or just serious) name and purpose.

Speaking of, surely there's a 3rd party tool that lists all these factions / groups / etc. Would someone kindly supply a link?

While thinking up ship names for my PS4 commander I realised the theme running through them made more sense if they were an Imperial. This works for me as, of my other two commanders, one is allied with the Aliiance and the other is a Fed-leading Hutton Trucker. I've taken a look around the power play map, and have picked out a nice system to call home that has people's princess Aisling Duval as patron, meaning slavery of all types is illegal there, slavery being my only problem with the Imps :)

Greetings fellow citizen, I too serve the royal princess! I don't think that's the same thing as belonging to a faction, however. I am still a little confused regarding PowerPlay in general.

Not quite correct, you do have to actually complete a military mission for the Feds/Imps in order to actually get a new rank. Luckily these days they don't necessarily have to involve combat.

That NAVY or NAVAL mission will still ONLY be offered by a (in this case) FED-aligned LOCAL faction, not the Federation Navy and it is true that I have never been offered a rank up mission involving combat. but we are not actually attaining official RANK in the Federation Navy, nobody actually joins the Navy. We can "fight alongside" the Navy but we are not actually in the Navy. It is "honorary, equivalent" Naval RANK, just a programmed method for limiting access to some systems and ships. o7
