The elusive exclamation mark persists

Why does this game still scream early access? :(

The exclamation mark. It's been around since beta when FD hadn't made specific images of targets to present on the dashboard.

And it still lingers.

Let's take tourist beacons for example. The image has been made, and it shows up quite nicely when you're at the beacon. But in SC it's an exclamation mark... FD fixed this issue with stations, but apparently it isn't necessary to check this across the board...

And other images are still missing completely. CZs. Not fit for their own image. The trusted exclamation mark will suffice.

Please FD, spend some time cleaning up the game. Forget about adding broken content for a while and fix the game you've made so far.

Thank you.

What's so bad about an exclamation point? I get changing them for beacons, but I've seen CZs pop up in the middle of nowhere, so a solution like th RES site wouldn't be as simple. Besides, wouldn't you rather they fix the 'broken content' (which is already been said to be the focus of the next season) instead of worrying about something this minor? I'm sure this will get fixed in the third season at some point.

The persistent exclamation mark is the perfect example of rushing an incomplete product. And FD is sadly continuing to release incomplete/broken product without adressing the increasing mass of incomplete/broken content already released. It makes me sad. :(

Personally I would much rather have a product that I've already had 2 years with a few les - and let's face it something this sweeping is always gonna have a few les - than be eternally waiting for a finished thing that I will likely never get my hands on *cough*Star Citizen*cough*

Thing is, it's consistent as it is:

  • Stations/Outposts/Settlements: Respective icon representing the type
  • USS: Waveform icon
  • POI: Exclamation mark icon
  • Planet: Planet
  • Asteroid belts: bunch o' rocks

But really, adding individual icons for each type of POI would not add any value.

Sorry, but no. Tourist beacons have icons, they're just not implemented. The reticule knows where you're going, there's just no icon. Lazy implementations.

Or to look at it another way, it is a sign that the developers came to the conclusion that there are far more important things to work on than a symbol on an HUD... I doubt either of these theories are even close to correct...

Of course they have icons since they have a (virtual) physical representation in the game that you can fly circles around. SO when you target them you see them represented in your HUD. Same as nav beacons.

This does not change the fact that when in super cruise, they are an abstract entity representing the coordinates of a point of interest, and therefore are represented with the POI icon, which is the same for alle POIs. You may not like this decision, but it is what it is and it is consistent and makes sense. Also I doubt calling the devs lazy will make them any more likely to rethink this decision ;)

I have no idea what the hell is being talked about here. What exclamation mark?

Good lord Agony ;). The icon image shown on the left side of your dash when you log on to a distant target. E: D used to have the rudimentary exclamation mark for all distant targets (back in pre release beta days), even though the reticule and the left panel knew what you were heading for. Finally after much complaining (you know me...), they added icons for most destinations; planets, stations, beacons and so on, AND they transferred most of them to show on your dash when you log on. But as many things E: D, they only did it half heartedly. The exclamation mark is a remnant from early beta. Most destinations have their own icons now, they're just not implemented throughout. And some destinations still lack icons. Like CZs for example. We have icons for wakes, planets, stations, spaceships, beacons and so on but for some reason we still have destinations left with the good old exclamation mark. And in some cases it doesn't even carry over to the long range targeting (left side dash) as it should.

TL; DR: I wish FD would clean up the game they have made so far instead of continuing to add new content.

Tourist or nav beacons for that matter are not abstract entities. They are solid objects floating in space. Your reticule knows, your left panel knows, your left dash icon imager knows when you enter the instance.

Just as your imager knows which planet you are heading for as soon as you've locked on. There is no other word for it than lazy coherence routines. All icons must of course transfer to all instances as most of them do.

Unless we are talking unknown targets. But I'm not.

Hmmmm.... I hadn't thought about complaining about the exclamation point. BRILLIANT !!!!

It's just lazy quality control.

If FD had released this game as early access. Fine. But this kind of "oversight" says alot about how much attention is payed to coherence. Oh, like the "you can let a friend pilot your SLF, but not your SRV". Sorry for going off topic, but where the helvetica is the logic in that. Sloppy/lazy development/quality control.

Oh, really? I've never noticed it. I'm going to be looking for exclamation marks now!!!!
