Rubbish... The Thargoids have returned, and yes, you should be very afraid

The Thargoids have returned, and yes, you should be very afraid...

So we're being goaded to war on the forums by FD. Seems like the notion that the way we interact with our Thargoid friends is not 'up to us' after all.

There is no gameplay in friendly action, gameplay that FD so desperatly need.

So it seems to be war, and that's been decided by our coding masters.

Shame.

Not sure what kind of friendly action there could be, trade? Rares maybe? You're right, not a lot of gameplay in that... ;)

The base game can barely support activities beyond combat in the first place, so it's kind of hard to expect that an encounter with Thargoids would have any meaningful content outside of shoot 'em up. Where's the framework required for something more substantial?

The Elite series of games have been about alien invasion, so this is probably what is expected of the game. Although we have yet to see what range of tools we will have for interacting with them. If all you can speak with are guns, the conversations easily become hostile...

What I'd like to see is how this whole thing will affect Solo players. Hopefully there will be the full Thargoid experience to have for them too. While I play in Open, I'd prefer not to be forced to interact with others unless I set out to do so.

:D S

So, ED is becoming an arcade shoot-em-up? I'm glad i didn't buy a lifetime pass.

At least now, I'll have time to do RL stuff. Maybe rebuild a car or something.

I mean people have been stealing their equipment out in open space, stealing their resources from planets, and experimenting on things we don't know anything about.

Perhaps the Feds we're right all along and people should have left that stuff be.

Maybe we goaded them into war?

I'm not quite ready to go there yet, partly because I'm mildly curious how the alien content will be delivered, even if it is just fireworks, but also because Fdev has stated that they want to use "season 3" to focus on core game mechanics. So we'll see. I'd love if there were some alien civ out in the deeps that we could interact with outside of combat, but I just don't see it anytime soon.

Couldn't have said that better. Thargoids will be AI driven just like NPC's, I don't expect anything more interactive than that.

When the UA's scream as you kill them farming UF, they may have been sending distress calls, and they do scan you as you encounter them.

Our record w/ them can't be all sweetness and honey as of late. And then we have those that are shooting at the Alien ships every chance they get.

My biggest concern regarding them right now is that I don't see how Fdev is going to be able to make them challenging for non-combat pilots and Elite combat vets at the same time. Usually what they do is go with the numbers.

Maybe we have it all wrong and we will enslave the aliens - have your own planet of Thargoids toiling for you ?

The previous teaser contained some Alien structure, with the srv rolling in. So maybe something related to that.

We could ask them for canyon races, a buckyball to Sagittarius or trade Lavian Brandy with them. :D

I was under the impression this was going to be player driven. How we reacted to the aliens was going to drive the story forward? Have we had a conflict?

Perhaps we will have a double CG ..... ship biowaste to Planetary port X if you want peace with the aliens ..... ship reactive armor and weapons to port Y if you want war.

Peace with thargoids?

Remember commander Jameson - There can be no peace with thargoids.....

Best killing trousers on. Last one dead is a wimp.

We could play "Arrival" games with them. Where we try to communicate with them directly, and their communication leads to potential internal wars within human kind among rival factions struggling to beat each other to be the first to "befriend" the alien races. But again, that all comes back to pew pew.

Yeah you're right! :D
