@E5

I don't think the Alliance ever managed to deliver the Mycoid vaccine.
I think the intended pilot took the alternative route and delivered the Mycoid mkII to the Thargoids.

Just some speculation....

It might be important to find as many Thargoid barnacle sites as possible, in case we will have to go to war against them. As it looks like they may be using them to replenish their ships, it might become possible to to blow them up and thus prevent their ships from refueling/repairing themselves.. it would be cool if in the future (if there is war against them), we could get missions to destroy these barnacle sites from Federation/Imperial/Alliance high command (HINT TO FDEV) ;).. or whatever institution will be coordinating humanitys struggle against them.

Fed military ships have access to new weapons and shielded power plants not available to normal independent pilots such as ourselves. I suspect that will change soon.

The transmission did state they suffered power outages as well, and i don't think the Feds would have sent non upgraded ships to secure data on the thargoids? or perhaps something much stronger and powerful showed up to take on the convoy.

They run out of fuel, because we harvest their barnacles?

That could be the reason, either that or the recent attack involved something much bigger.

From what I can piece together:

Thargoids like dark cold systems with ringed worlds of Ammonia.

I think we should search those a bit closer. Preferably with the Aliens soundtrack in the background.

Just saw the news...WOW!!! This is gonna be good. :D

Well, I'm thrilled that we can finally put to rest the debate as to whether or not these ships are Thargoids. To me, it was pretty obvious from the moment we first saw them.

I sincerely hope that we'll actually be able to put up a fight this time, rather than either running away or being slaughtered like I'm told it was in the old days.

All Farraguts carry the designation FDN-RD5, it's a static decal and not related to the registration or name of the ship.

Not all of the ship is on the surface, just one part.

Yeah, the part we've more or less identified as the "core" of the ship, as well as several of the fins. Only some of the fins are missing, and they could've broken off on approach and been scattered across hundreds of kilometers, and are therefore not rendered in the game.

Has this been confirmed? FD has been very vague on FFEs ending I don't recall if it was settled one way or another.

Nope, but it is the branch from FFE that fits best with our current state.

It was sort of hinted during the retcon bonanza a year ago, as well.

Alright you know what it's THEORY TIME with Substitute Teacher EAGLE 5.

https://pics.onsizzle.com/me-explaining-conspiracy-theories-to-my-friends-10652140.png

So today we got the news that our flowery friends aren't really friends and they are Thargoids. It is safe to assume that this a 100% correct statement since the man himself has confirmed it in his latest video. NOW... I interrupt myself to first and foremost state, that what I'm about to say is based on one cornerstone assumption and that should it turn out to be incorrect the theory collapses into baseless speculation.

The assumption is this: Humanity did encounter the Thargoids in the past, went to war with them (Elite 1), used the INRA Mycoid virus to infect and disable their biological processes which were tied to hyperdrive technology, lost touch with them (Elite 2), interacted with them again in (FFE) before losing track of them completely.

I am not going to go over the war, we know it happened. We also know of the INRA Mycoid virus and that the Alliance stepped out to reach out to the Thargoids and deliver an antidote which brought about peace with the aliens... or so we thought. I say that because following the peaceful establishment of relations and the beginning of scientific exchange, contact was once again lost seemingly overnight only to be replaced with vague history re-writing and coverups of the whole incident... until the events of ED started happening.

Now here is a critical question that I think begs to be asked and needs to be answered: Who did the Alliance give the Mycoid cure to? Was it "The Thargoids"? or was it perhaps "Some Thargoids?".

It has been said before that the original Thargoids we went to war with, were more of a... scouting party and that we had just scratched the surface. It is also quite possible that, in the natural disarray that followed after the infection, some elements within Thargoid ranks began to question the direction of events (perhaps feeling abandoned by their kind) and that that may have even rebelled or splintered off pushing for a more "peaceful" existence compared to the warrior like status quo. It was this group then that reached out to the Alliance and received treatment... and by default independence from the others who would rather fight for their way of life. Outnumbered and outgunned the splinter group took off with their restored hyperdrives before the rest of Thargoid society showed up and probably blitzed them for defying the natural order of things.

Since then we have witnessed the coming of UAs, UPs, Barnacles and now these odd ships that seem to be capable of shutting us down at their leisure, more or less harmlessly in the case of the UP and the Ship... or with lasting caustic effect as with the UA. The abnormality here is the Barnacles which don't seem to cause damage per-se, rather they reverse the problems caused by the UAs through Meta Alloy production..... they are also the elements that seem to catch the Unknown Ships' attention (I speculate) probably for this healing ability.

Putting all this together I think Lab 69 is probably going to get very busy and will probably need some major cash infusion to counter this. My theory is this: The Ships/Flowers/Unknown Entities (if we are going to reference the video) are indeed Thargoids closer to our original enemies from Elite 1 but with about 200 years of evolution/upgrades on their side particularly to overcome on their own the ill effects of the Mycoid virus. The ironic vengeful twist is that they seem to want to do unto us what has been done to them... namely defeat through technological breakdown. Have you noticed in the teaser how the Elite Dangerous RA started corroding? that's very symbolic as the RA of the Elite Federation of Pilots could very well symbolize Humanity's society in space. They are eagerly awaiting reinforcements before "The Return" and they are NOT HAPPY with us. If this theory holds true, then this is indeed very bad news... all the history, all the coverups, and secret military contingency plans of new bubbles, fake uniting wars between the Feds and Imps (INRA anyone?) will be proven valid and we will have to make a choice as to what sort of scientists we are going to be at that point.... make no mistake there will be some hard decision that will push the boundaries of ethics.

Thoughts?

(Nods muchly)

I will not be surprised of you're within spitting distance with this, +1

so if the thargoid ships are so powerful, what's bringing them crashing down onto surfaces?

Yeah I've been wondering that.

I guess a good starting point would be whether we can ever know how long those wrecks have been there.

A long (+100s yrs) time = could be mycoid?
A short time = definitely time to find a sofa or floor to sleep on out in Colonia...

Two Fed cap ships.

Both still there.

FDS designation, people were saying FNS is the norm.

Both destroyed capital ships in HIP 17044 have the same ID and no name on them: FDN-RD5
FDev? :D

Its worth noting something that did come to mind. Humanity is seperated in the Galaxy after an expansion, "Colonia", it can be said with the Thargoids first appearing around Maia we would expect them to spearhead an invasion from that sector. Though I feel Colonia might be the first target to fall to attack. Its far away from our main civilized bubble and not as strongly defended. This will probably be the sector of space that we CMDRs have to worry about. That being said it is also possible that Colonia might be the sector where communication with the Oresrians might happen, an enemy to the Thargoids. The Oresrians look very similar to Thargoids and they travel in groups. So in the Return Trailer our Flower ships could be this group since they are non-hostile (wishful thanking really). This idea has merit because I can understand this race helping arm us to fight a new threat that we are hilariously under-armed to fight, the Distress Beacon at HIP 17044 is proof of that problem.

Either way, I feel we as CMDRs should keep an eye on the Colonia Sector, it will either be the harbinger of the threat we will face, or the beacon of hope to win the coming threat. All will be told by 2.4.
For those curious here is a wiki for the lore about the Oresrians: http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Oresrians
