THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Thanks a ton! I'll check it out then and hopefully I can make it there before I head off.

In a 56LY ship you should be able to slice through the rift like a warm knife through butter. Could it be it's just the route plotter that's giving up due to the distances between stars? On the last trip out I had a 58LY Conda and basically went in a (more or less) straight line everywhere I went. And the additional 2LY doesn't make a great deal of a difference.

Hey guys,

Don't know if this is the right place to ask but if you could help me out that would be fantastic.

I'm making my way over to the Zurara to check it out and was wondering if you folk happen to know the best way to get there. Currently, I'm sitting on the cusp of the Formidine Rift (PHOI AESCS CB-F D11-2 to be precise, about 1.5klys out) in a 56ly Anaconda and have noticed that my route plotter can't plot due to stars being bigger distances away. Is there a way around/through this empty region of space and through to Syreadiae JX-F CO? Just curious how you all managed to get through/around it without getting stuck.

Many, many thanks,

A Keen Explorer

WhenI recently visited Zurara I was in a 45 ly AspX and had problems in a couple of places where I needed fsd boost & had to backtrack a couple of times. The best tool is EDDiscovery which has a map of the formidine rift showing the Very Sparse Area, which is best avoided unless you have lots of boost materials. Zurara is just on the far edge of this VEry Sparse Area and I had tried to follow a straight path through it. EDD also shows the Heisenberg bridge, and a bubble of stars aroundyour position that have been reported to EDSM. EDD allows you to calculate a route without the 1kly limitation of E D's plotter, but beware-look at the route calculated and if you see a WAYPOINT then you have to manually find a waypoint and plot around that gap &/or use fsd boost. You can get several of these WAYPOINTs together which indicates no stars there and you need to find an alternate route around. I used the EDD route as a guideline for say 700ly points but the E D route plotter for the intermediate routing and to find routes around these difficult areas.

I had a 45LY Asp and didn't have any problems... I basically went from the EAFOTS abandoned settlements to the Zurara in a basically straight line... but only plotted 500LY at a time to allow the Galaxy Map to find a route around any sparse areas...

Ah, I tried a straight path from the Base Camp asteroid base so perhaps a little further 'North' and hit the very sparse area. On the return trip I skirted that area back to near one end of the Bridge then let the galmap plotter take me backto the asteroid base.

With a 56Ly Anaconda you could actually fly a straight line from Heart & Soul there, with just a few injects. I had 47.4Ly on my first trip and only needed 2 Lvl1, 1 Lvl2 and 2 Lvl3 to cross that gap. you basically jump to small islands there that bring you forward. On my second trip there i had 49Ly range, but wasted lots of jumpmats, because i had reached my cap collecting them inbound. But i could have done it with maybe 3 injects at most. So it's not that hard to cross, if you plan ahead.

When I crossed the rift, it was in an AspX with about 45Ly of range. I had no real issues crossing, however I was following a line from the bubble through the H&S nebulas, so a few KLy Trailward of where the Zurara is. I'm planning to go visit it sometime soon (via the Crab Nebula), but now my Asp does 48Ly and 51 on fumes. I'm still probably going to cross more trailward and then turn spinward once I am on the other side.

I kinda did exactly that recently. Went from Crab Nebula into the Outer Arm (used roughly the Deadalus Crossing. No issues there with 49Ly range), then followed it for a while and went for the Zurara then. It really is only the Rift where you would need injects, if you want to avoid the Bridge. (like i did)

I also took the rout from Heart & Soul to the Zurara with a 50 (56) Ly anaconda. I didn't need any injects. Just some manual route planning when the automatic fails. For me it helped going up and down a bit to find more stars.

Hello 'Rifters',

I'm in the process of arranging an Interview with Drew for Lave Radio. I know Drew's very good at answering queries on this thread but if you have any questions that you'd like me to put to him about either the new book or how you found the Rift Search and the 'Big Event', please drop me a PM.

Cheers

Colin

What is the minimum Jump range I could get to the Zurara with....looking to make an Explorer Hauler purely for this purpose....I just want to see it but am severely limited on fundage :(

Depends on how far you want to go around :D

Seriously - there's a route mapped across the Rift, the Heisenberg Bridge (depending on where the link leads you to, check the tabs at the bottom), which is what I used with a ~40 ly Dolphin. With a Hauler, you will need either Jumponium or a good grade 3 FSD roll (or grade 2 and jump on fumes).
On the other hand, depending on what ship you currently have, you could go to one of the larger tourist stations, do a few short range sightseeing runs and go for an Adder (1 more internal space), a T-6 or a Dolphin. You'll be gone some time on that trip, spending a few days in advance to get and upgrade a decent ship won't make much of a difference.
Or you could just scan a dozen or so of the close by ELWs and fund your ship that way.

There's an article "A passage across the Poseidal Wall" from CMDR Heisenberg6626 (15 April 3302) where it is said that the Heisenberg Bridge "[…]consists of 108 jumps, only 12 of which are above 30ly, the maximum being at 32.7 ly."

Welp, went and checked out the blownout cap ship in HIP 14077 and had a quick trip back to Jameson when a junior wizard showed up to end my inquiry.

Did notice up close that the green stuff actually had spread under hull protrusions, like vents. had the appearance of biological growth. No physical damage apparent to cap ship.

Lotsa rebuy, and plenty of assets to cover any more losses.

Where abouts is the ship?

In case you missed it, the comms beacon transmits every hour at half past the hour. It is a short message that loops so you have maybe 2 minutes to hear it.

So my next question is where do we go from here? Obviously the Dynasty Conspiracy was leading, in part, to this. Someone knew the Thargoids were out there and they were coming back. They tried to hide and prep for an imminent invasion. But we still don't know who or why, plus there is the unsolved murders from the Zurara, the mysterious disappearance of the people from the Dynasty staging planets, and the puppetmasters behind the Federation and Empire. Though it feels like the federation is the main culprit because it is always their ships being destroyed, their convoys carrying UA's and UP's, their ships trying to guard alien sited and cover things up. Still, are we just waiting for the next book to give us more clues?

Hey all, just came across a tidbit of info I'd partially forgotten while checking something on the old Canonn thread. From Michael Brookes:

"That's not strictly true. Most of the missing aren't on generation ships - they're just the most famous - and oldest. The later generation ships were also capable of FTL."

Just to give clarity to the message, it was in response to this which someone else had posted:

"You people seem to forget that the missing can only go as far as 1000ly. and you say the ancient's might be the missing/ a lost cononly. but they specifically went for systems with ELWs"

As far as I know we have exhausted all lines of enquiry available at this time. The only exception being there might be ships similar to the zurara waiting to be found in the Conflux and the Hawkins Gap. However this mystery has up until now ben presented as clues leading us in a general direction to search, which has triggered the next step. For example we were nudged towards the zurara with ever increasingly more specific clues, and that left us with beacons which tied in with the messages left by Rebecca at the Teorge listening posts, which were unveiled at Drews event on the 29th. At this time we have no leads to investigate, so sadly it looks like we won't get anything more until drews second book "Premonition" or " Elite Dangerous: 2.4 The Return" is released.

Agreed. I am nearly at the California nebula on my way back from beyond the Rift. Been out here a long time looking for "other things" and found nothing. By the way, we really need a Societal Reintegration Facility for Rifters on the edge of the bubble. Been out here so long I'm not sure what to do if I see another ship. Ok, so this SRF is nothing more than a giant bar floating in space, but you get the dRift :D
