Yes. The games are also so enormous and complicated that bugs are inevitable. I cut them some slack.
Having said that, I really never got into Fallout 4.

I too cut Bethesda some slack regarding bugs. Nobody else makes games that allow people to play with such freedom and with such marvelous, gigantic, content-filled, lore-rich worlds to immersively explore at will. I still play Skyrim today somewhat regularly (with mods keeping the game's appearance fresh)
Bethesda's weak point has always been graphics, especially textures that are usually quite poor. But modding always takes over. To be honest, Skyrim is still Bethesda's greatest achievement (over more so than Oblivion - for it's time), Fallout 4 didn't reach the same level, although the settlements thing was indeed fun. The downgraded dialogue interface was terrible though.
I believe Elder Scrolls 6 will still take unfortunately many years for the following reasons:
1 - They're currently milking that MMO thing whose name I shall not pronounce, and TES 6 would cannibalize it.
2 - Re-releasing Skyrim for other platforms / enhanced editions still provides revenue, and a TES 6 would also cannibalize it.
3 - The engine will need an serious upgrade. Current RPGs no longer have "loading screens" whenever we cross a door, and people no longer have the patience for constant loading screens. Also, the engine's graphical capabilities will need quite an enhancement. Fallout 4 when released already looked like a 5 year old game, while at the same time being quite hardware demanding (for what reason I can not grasp). All while keeping the same mod-support the current engine has.
I agree with pretty much all of that.
I'm peeved that we'll not be seeing ES6 anytime soon, though. They have their reasons, but darn it.... I don't care about ESO and I've been playing Skyrim for years already on the PC. Of course the PC is probably their least concern these days.
Whatever Starfall is I hope it scratches the same itch that the Elder Scrolls games have.
Fortunately, meanwhile the was The Witcher 3 which ended up being a masterpiece of a game, to saciate my hunger for a great RPG game during all these years.
In many ways, The Witcher 3 was a better Skyrim than Skyrim. And after the huge success of TW3, both with its phenomenal narrative and technical achievement, Skyrim felt incredibly dated.
So I agree with what's been said in this thread that Bethesda need to adapt to what we now take as granted, like minimal loading screens etc. It's going to be challenging for Beth and Mr. Howard for sure.![]()
Ab-so--lutely.
TW3 blew Skyrim out of the water and into orbit as far as I'm concerned. Skyrim was good but TW3 did all the detail right. Great looking, great quests supported by excellent dialogue and voice acting. The only thing I thought Skyrim probably did better was the combat. Combat in witcher series has always been the weaker part of the series to my mind.
You're both nuts. I keep trying with the Witcher games, but I just can't get on with them. Leave me with Skyrim and earlier (ignore ESO please, that was just a travesty.)
Agreed. I tried TW2 and was so disappointed.
Invisible walls everywhere, can't jump over railings, clunky movement and a combat system that should have stayed on consoles.
Not for me, I prefer the total freedom TES games.
The invisible walls are gone in TW3 though. It's an order of magnitude better than number two
Still has a combat system that would of sucked on an Atari 2600, let alone a PC.....

Bit harsh but I guess it's your opinion.
Despite what i said above, I don't think the combat is any worse than the average RPG hacky slashy magicy type game. Speaking for myself my specific complaint as regards the combat in witcher series is that it can be too subtle when levelling up and it's often not as satisfying as it could when levelling up combat abilities.
I agree with you about the combat system. It does kind of suck. But Skyrim doesn't have a very impressive combat system either, and the AI is absolutely ridiculous.
It just doesn't grab me, partly (I think) because there is no character creation for me to get behind. Starting someone else's character mean I have no involvement in that character. I may be able to change things up through levelling but all characters will start exactly the same, and I struggle with that part of these games.

I totally disagree. The AI is the bestest thing about Skyrim.....
OK maybe not the bestest but it's still brilliant......
Yeah this ain't working. I can't even convince myself. The AI in Skyrim sucks. You're right.
