Beginner Tutorials & Guides

Screw tutorials - those are for losers! Time for old-school way of tries and mistakes:cool:
You might rethink that the first time you fly into a station to land and can not remember how to lower your landing gear to land! Then the station coppers dissect your sidewinder around you for taking to long to land. In this, your last few seconds of life your thoughts flash before your eyes as the loud boom of your ship reminds you how much you hate death.

There is also a huge collection of information and helpful links in the ElitePS discord server. #help_and_resources section. If you're new and looking for friends and helpful information. This is the place to be during launch..

Those same voices made me upgrade to an X55 :)

Been there, done that ....

I haven't played on the PC since the PS4 announcement, when I went out and bought the PS4 in anticipation. My X55 is rusting away.

My beginners tip is to play the tutorials *first* - you start out with a straight flying tutorial, to learn how to move the ship around. The tutorials then progress through taking off, then landing, etc.

This is the best way to get a handle on the basics, before committing to your created commander and ship.

Nah, he's right I reckon. I found the tutorials of limited value. Best advice I can give is fly Sidewinders, learn game, fly Eagles, learn game, fly Cobras, learn game, fly....repeat until happy!

I don't, I'm thinking about the day after, when I'll go to utube and seek answeres. Having to fugure out which is pernitant to ps4 play and which isn't, is time consuming snd takes away from actual gaming. Us oldies (65+) have a limited amont of time compared to you youngen's. And were getting older by the minute. LOL

Bill, I'll be uploading some PS4 videos on launch day, going over the cockpit systems, starport info and how to launch etc. I could film them now on Xbox but i want to use my PS4. I may add in some footage of a ship in the hangar at the beginning thats already from Xbox. but all the rest will be footage from PS4

I'll be posting the links here

Nice post OP! There's so much great information available here on the forums, if only someone had gathered all the best stuff together in one place.

But wait ... someone has! :p

P.S. I'm going to add those tutorial video links you included.

Awesome, thanks for this Alec. I was hoping someone had done this and I was being lazy and waiting for someone to post it rather than trying to search for it. I take it most of the charts/posters people have done will be on there? I can get professionally quality printed stuff from work and want to get some stuff for my walls at home.

I've basically posted all the stuff I think is really good, interesting, relevant or funny and has stood the test of time. I've also stuck to stuff I've read and/or used myself (i.e. stuff I can vouch for). I'm not a big combat pilot so it's a bit light in that department but otherwise has most things pretty well covered. I update the Trending section on an almost daily basis (partly just to keep the thread active so it stays visible) but I'm always on the lookout for really good reference material so just post on that thread if you find anything.

In particular, for your walls, aside from the screenshot threads, these are especially nice ...

Thanks a lot Alec those are great!

I will point out that my Youtube channel is not monetized. It don't do it for money.

My Starting from Scratch series is all about playing the game.

Stuff you might learn includes how factions work, how to raise your rep and why you'd want to, how to land in the exact middle of a POI circle so you can find those skimmers you need for that mission without attacking an entire base, what rares are and how they work, how to engineer a frameshift drive, how to clear a bounty on your head, how to participate in a community goal...

Stuff like that. It has nothing to do with what button to press, I never go into that at all.

Anyway, some people have found the series helpful, so I post it here.

The main thing is to enjoy yourself in the game, however you approach it.

Have fun out there! And welcome to the galaxy!

Great stuff Alec, thanks for sharing. There's some great stuff on your page that are going to make a bit more wise. Cheers o7
