There might well be more than one cave. If the Guardian ruins thought us anything it's to keep looking, even if the trailer content is located.

Yeah that's definitely possible.

So I guess, in addition to this capship battle site, the question would be whether there's any way to infer a likely location based on knowledge of guardian sites (too far?) barnacles or UPs/UAs.

Yeah I can hear everyone saying it now: 'Like we haven't already tried that!'

But I'm coming at this relatively fresh: the whole Gas Giant Moon theory seems reasonable, in and around barnacle centres, given that we now have a direct link to the flower ships to the barnacles.

I've got to put a Lev#5 FSD on my stored Asp tonight (only got three rolls so hopefully one will be good!) and I'm gonna head out to this wreck system as a start (and probably find nothing!) then see where life takes me afterwards.

Despondency, most likely!

Presence of barnacles and presence of ammonia bodies seem to be central to most things happening at the moment, that's for sure. :)

Id like to make a request that everyone helps search HIP 17044 Planet 2 B. It will be quicker if he had a lot of people searching here. If we dont find anything? So be it. I doubt MB will tell us if we are searching in the wrong location.

I've done a bit of flying around with no luck. Will do more later.

Stupid question. Anybody know, if you park your ship >500m above the planet surface and release a SLF to reconnoiter how far can you distance yourself from the ship?

30km as RSM Lancaster says.

I've been playing with one as part of my exploraconda build for a couple of weeks.

Works pretty well - 60ly jump range and very fast and nimble for looking over a planet surface.

The main ship will also auto-follow so you can do a sweeping search pattern very effectively.

Had a long run out to ETA Carina though and was looking on pretty barren planets so I haven't been able to confirm whether the SLF's scanner picks up surface POIs yet. - anyone know whether it does?

Edit - just in case anyone hasn't used SLFs before and decides to give this a try - don't forget to pick up a crew member and set them active (you'll need to set them active via the crew lounge at a station, you can't do it when you've left for some bizarre reason). The lowest ranked one will do. You can then swap instantaneously between the SLF and your main ship, get the crew member to dock the SLF while you do stuff on your ship, and you can then also have the crew member flying the SLF as a defence so you can do a BSR if you get attacked.

I realize that this will set a dozen canon-fans firing, but…

I don't think Oresrians or Klaxians will exist in the game, I think that they're just an interesting detail mentioned in books, and re-mentioned by other authors, and that's where they'll stay.

Apparently only one cannon in the Canonn thread about canon to fire.

Quite possible you're right but each of the official books were given some guidelines and were vetted with requested rewrites by FD. It seems odd that such a fundamental part of OoTD would be incorrect.
Particularly when the end of the book had them escaping toward the Pleiades which seems a big clue regarding the veracity of part of that story.

Somewhat by coincidence I was there this morning. I arrived in the system a bit early for the half-past-the-hour beacon and decided to go and do a spot of base-jumping down on 2B while I waited. It's got a nice low gravity (0.06g) and some super mountains. Although probably not the place to be searching (the cave is gonna be down at ground level I'd have thought) I had an absolute blast, survived the decent and managed to get the SRV up to nearly 150m/s which is a new record for me I think (boy does it take a long time to stop from that speed, even with the handbrake on!). Anyway, just thought I'd mention it (sorry, not that pertinent really).

P.S. I got so carried away that I forgot the time and left myself with just 7 minutes to get to the distress beacon. Made it just in time to hear the message and grabbed some nice screenies too.

I'm searching 2 B as I've nothing better to do at the moment, but it seems to me that the wreckage is just where the Thargoids intercepted the fleet and not necessarily anything to do with a base or such in the area.

Also, can confirm, planet dark AF.

Are we now searching for this base in the Pax trailer?

If so I'am currently checking HIP 17892, has 2 ringed white gas giants with lots of moon's.

I think the most scientifically pertinent questions about this video are:

- Why have you still got Christmas trees up?
- Why have you got three Christmas trees?
- Why didn't you get a fourth one or a second station so that it's symmetrical? You're driving me crazy here...

I love my Xmas tree..... wouldn't fly without it!

"Neither Braben nor Sammarco would comment on what it was that I was looking at, only to say that when these structures are added into the game they won’t be giving any hints as to where they are among Elite’s 400 billion star systems. It will be up to the players to find them on their own."

This could be a wild goose chase.

Edit: I suspect when 2.4 is a go-go that those bases will be in the game or the systems unlocked with them in.

Since these things were in the 2.3 and ps4 trailers, I'd hazard a guess that they may be activated with the upcoming patch to keep us busy in the wait for 2.4 (and add some hype for the new ps4 players). That is, unless the "when" was two months ago and they're in already :)

"Some of this will arrive with v2.4, including the new discoverable Thargoid locales."

Quote from the gamer revolution article linked back on page 57. Seems pretty clear they're coming as part of 2.4.
