I found one disabled/non-active data point on a crashed probe or satellite last night and a few kms away, 8 canisters of various goods from a wrecked SRV. Typical stuff, I suppose. But my theory was that with the activity in that system, why not look on the closest land-able body? A number of mountain ranges as well and many deep canyons. Is it not possible that caverns could be found there? I have only about two hours of SRV and limited fly-over time in so far but I intend to spend the weekend covering more ground. Likely nothing significant to find, but what if.....?

Well people call them caves. but its pretty obvious that its a hallway in a ship/base

After a bit of reading on EDSM about HIP 22460, reading the articles about the Thargoid structures on Polygon and watching the Unknown Trailer, I have a guess that may lead us to find more of these structures.

Polygon states that at first the structure appeared to be a Thargoid ship, like many of us believe, but upon getting closer it resembled an organic structure of sorts, embedded into the planet itself. So the object in the Unknown trailer may not a ship, but rather a depository for eggs or something similar. And after reading about the possible planet that the Thargoid structure is located on HIP 22460, which is planet 10B, I went to EDSM to read about the planet's information. One point that stuck out to me was the geyser activity was noted as "Major Silicate Vapour Geysers" and I assume that most planets wouldn't include the word "Major" in them. So I went and watched a couple videos on the geysers and they seem to produce the game greenish gas that we saw in that trailer.

So I'm proposing that we search for systems that have landable rocky bodies with Major Silicate Vapour Geysers as the Thargoids may have chosen those locations to mask these structures from being seen without careful observation. This could be a bit of a stretch but it seems like there are multiple of these objects strategically placed where it fits in with the science of the game.

The 'Major' part is probably a bit of a red herring. Was looking at vulcanism info on all the planets I've scanned a day or two ago, and a lot of them are labelled 'Major'.

Stupid question. Anybody know, if you park your ship >500m above the planet surface and release a SLF to reconnoiter how far can you distance yourself from the ship?

For searching a site or "caves" :) I always take my T6 with a fast fighter to explore the surface... it is fun also ^^

Usually, IN THE PAST, what's been shown in a trailer, it's always already been in game. And ED reply seems to confirm this:

Where does it say that this isn't in the game until 2.4? Hint - it doesn't.
(nowhere is said that this stuff isn't already in game, so we should look for it now)

I think it´s time to get again that much postings in here, that nobody can track it anymore like when we searched for the barnacle ^^ For me, the hints are saying its in the game :)

The old questions stand: Was the change from mounds to pumpkins a retcon, or an in-game change? Is the research station really a research station, reactively built to observe a naturally occuring phenomenon, or is it an agricultural/pharmaceutical compound, there to maintain something that had previously been planted? Do those pumpkins constitute a confined environment and growbed, into which parasitical mycelium can be injected and cultivated? :7

Sandro has said that they will be added before 2.4.

VERY INTERESTING! Now... id throw a bone and say they they are in game now. But the dog is telling me that there coming after the (current patch beta)

I'd agree with the dog. I'd speculate that they are not currently in game, but will be added Soon™. And we won't even know if they are, as they are not going to tell us. Assumption about HIP thingy being one place... perhaps, or they'll change it to suit whatever they are planning. No matter, I hope they add some way to help explorers / pilots search for said things without relying on blind luck.

They said no hints. So id assume it will be found via blind luck

Like an exploring type SLF with a wave scanner or a wave scanner utility on the ship.

I think after EDs comment on reddit, it is already ingame. Ed would definitely not trigger ah thing if the community could outraging again ^^

And like rizal72 said, when its shown in the trailer, its in. The Trailer is 3 months old so we are late [alien]

Ah suppose. Tis a shame though. Sure its in but it will be found via blind luck. Let's be honest. its no space POI its planetside. and there are couple hundred starts in the Pleiades. x 100 planets

Not really sure that this post really says anything that hasn't already been said before (one of my favourite pastimes) but I got on a roll :)

Thargoforming?

On the speculation about what the cave from that trailer is, and following on from these comments in the online rags; I'm thinking: Thargoid 'mothership' and that we could perhaps be looking at biological 'repurposing' or conversion of planetary material into a living thing, which then becomes a nursery, and so on. I won't say terraforming because that would only be done by humans, perhaps 'thargoforming' is more accurate - although there's clearly no atmosphere, so whatever changes are being made can be done in hard vacuum.

Anyway, just as with terraforming, logically, not all planets would be suitable (at least I hope not!), and it might be that some elements are essential to enable this process to occur. Now I don't *believe* there is a single exotic element that's common to all barnacle planets, say (but there certainly are 'common' elements in, er, common).

But perhaps not *just* the planets' elements themselves - what about the nearby planetary environment? E.g. Gas giants, or ammonia worlds (our favourites after all, right?)

And, furthermore, the stellar environment? Barnacles - for example - are found in and around nebulae - so perhaps that's key, also? As far as I understand it (paraphrasing from the following links), reflection nebulae like the Pleiades are visible purely because the interstellar dust in them (thought to be 'suspended' in a molecular hydrogen gas cloud in the case of the Pleiades) reflects the light of the nearby stars, e.g. Merope - as opposed to being ionised in the case of an emission nebula. Cosmic dust sounds boring, but it turns out it can actually be quite rich in composition, depending upon what type it is.

According to that reflection nebula link:

Among the microscopic particles responsible for the scattering are carbon compounds (e. g. diamond dust) and compounds of other elements such as iron and nickel.

And it turns out (read the interstellar dust link above if you're feeling adventurous) that interplanetary cosmic dust has more exotic elements and compounds related to its nearby bodies - e.g. planets, comets, the local star etc.

Yeah!? And?

So we have a precedent for Barnacles extracting material from a planet to create something useful for the Thargoid ships (as well as meta alloys - which appear to be nothing but a byproduct from whatever the Barnacle is doing). It must be something about the confluence of planetary makeup, in conjunction with the nebulae, make that possible - surely?

If so, then it's reasonable to suggest that the same will be true for this mothership - but perhaps on a different scale - and that there's some local conditions which make a location ripe for whatever the hell it is that video is showing us. Again - the planet that's 'thargoformed', but also perhaps nearby *planetary* dust (and possibly that from a nearby nebula too).

So I'm thinking it just reinforces the idea that others have already mentioned, that if this cave can be found, there's a high likelihood of it being in the nebulae where we've found the barnacles already - but also on the moons of planets a particular type, too.

Perhaps the UP has the answer to that one?

Actually, as I read all that back, I'm not entirely sure I'm really making much of a point!

- And it could just be that this mothership, if that what it is, instead of 'growing' on the planet, flies to that planet and, kinda, burrows into it. But I can't work with that, so I'm going with my first idea!

Time to get flying, and put the keyboard away!

Maybe you mean the ASP that landed next to the cobra?

And I don't know how much work went into the trailer here, since I was inactive for a couple of months...but those scenes are amazing.

And isn't this thing in the right upper part a grown out barnacle?

Oh its an Asp lol, deffo easier to see in the zoomed in image

Yeah wherever the caves are there is barnacles

Quick off the wall thought... The Feds stole the data from Palin... they are intercepted in HIP 17044... WHERE were they heading? Is it possible a rather 'straight line' from Point A to B leads to C? Are the Feds really going to hang a big dog-leg turn in their effort to get to 'safety' as fast as possible? Aren't they more or less too arrogant to care about winding a trail through the woods?

OR... is this a shadow Fed project/unit that isn't headed to normal Fed space/locations? Is there a secret base that isn't even on the Federations 'public' board? I'm thinking, ore wanting to imagine a "Black Ops" type thing here.

We should sum up what we have, even when we don´t have much.

So the Trailer doesn´t show any Stars in the background, you see the surface and a Planet near with a Ring. 2 Commanders are heading down, but for what? If this "caves" exist, what should we do there? Maybe catch some eggs for research.

I think HIP 22460 do have a Planet with a Ring so we have to look for 1 close to the Ringplanet.

I think the latter

I'm suspicious we may get a wide array of new technological goodies. Along with weapons, shielded power plants and other gizmos possibly we'll get what is effectively a flowership wake scanner.

If we do then maybe the trick to finding good candidate planets to search will be tracking flowerships. Maybe we won't get a destination but at least a vector, map out a couple of those and you'll get a system locus.

The trailer system is HIP 22460 but it locked
