Oculus update, ED now hangs on startup

Anyone else experiencing this? Tonight's Oculus update (version 1.16), which updated the lobby appearance, among other things, appears to be preventing ED from working in VR. At least for me. I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this, and whether there's a workaround.

EDIT: I've opened a ticket with Oculus support.

EDIT 2: I have tickets open with both Oculus and Frontier. Plus, it's not actually hanging the game. It's more like the display blanks out. I can hear the menu options clicking in the main menu if I sweep the mouse around, and it sounds like this is the behavior most people are experiencing.

EDIT 3: It looks like the issue is resolved. They had briefly reverted some people back to 1.15, and then later pushed an updated 1.16 that seems to work properly now.

just tested it. No update on my OH as far as I can tell. Still on 1.15 and no problems launching via ED Launcher

Edit:
Just read that 1.16 has been released. And I heard about such problems in the 1.16 beta. That would really suck if they carry this bug over to the public 1.16.
Is there maybe a way of disabling OH to communicate with the servers to stay on 1.15 (like little snitch for mac)?

A little more testing has revealed:

ED is broken for me with both Oculus Home, and Steam. However it still works with the Frontier Launcher.

Oculus support is having me run a repair on the Oculus software, and reinstall ED from their store. Since I'm at work right now, I was able to do all of that remotely, but won't be able to test it until tonight.

I personally had a lot of issues getting my Rift to work with steam so I nabbed the Oculus home key from the fdev account page and re-installed through oculus home and haven't had an issue since. Was playing last night (NA Pacific timezone) without an issue.

I can also confirm that ED hangs in 1.16 launching from oculus home. I see the frontier logo on my monitor flickering. I can also hear the selections as I move my mouse.

Another update: After Oculus support had me run a repair on Oculus home, and delete and reinstall ED, it still behaves the same. However, if I navigate to the folder that it's in, under Oculus Home (in my case this is "C:\Program Files\Oculus\Software\Software\frontier-developments-plc-elite-dangerous"), and run "EDLaunch.exe" from there manually, it works fine. It fails if Oculus Home tries to start it.

Very, very strange.

Same here, can´t start since oculus update :( Thanks Zenbones for the workaround, but my eliteinstallation is in steam, not in oculus store.

The good news is that through your account settings on Frontier's site, you can get partner keys and install it through the other launchers. For Steam users, it probably makes sense to install a second copy (for now) through either Frontier's launcher, or through Oculus Home. If you use the latter, you'll have to use the workaround of launching it manually (I simply pinned it to the taskbar in Windows, so I can get to it easily).

I heard back from both Frontier and Oculus. Frontier's support rep said that their recommendation is to roll back Oculus Home to the previous version (which is an option in the menus somewhere). From the way he worded it, it sounds like this is a pretty widespread problem. I may do that.

Oculus support has asked me to pull of the logs from Oculus Home, so I'll send it to them and hopefully that will help them work it out.

Really I sure haven't seen that option anywhere.
And the entire oculus system completely refuses to work if there is a home update pushed, so I even if I know I'm likely to hit the problem, I'm waiting for an unavoidable bomb.

Reinstalled Windows (again) last week. Had zero issues since, even with this new update.

I have literally no idea. As my OTHER new-ish Windows install I still have DOES have issues. And I'm damned if I know what I've installed differently on that one.

I hadn't looked for it, but they said it was there. Looking now, I don't see it either. Here's the quote from Frontier support:

It looks like this is a potential issue with Oculus' new runtime beta. In the settings of Oculus Home, you should have the option to revert back to the previous non-beta version as well.

You can only roll back if you are in the beta program. Unchecking the "give me beta updates" rolls you back. Once the 1.16 version had gone live and you got it, there is no way to roll back though.

As I don't use oculus home or steam for elite I should be fine with my Oculus rift. Never understood the need for any of the oculus store or steam store keys to be honest.

Maybe things have changed, but previously when you played the game from the Frontier launcher, you'd get the SteamVR version launched, not the Oculus version, which is (was?) sub-optimal in terms of performance id you're on the Rift and not the Vive. It was also hard to choose weather to launch in VR or Desktop; both those problems are solved by using the Oculus Home version. Still, as others have said, its just a matter of running the exe outside of Home to bypass the issue for now.

I've been hit with this bug for a while, like the OP I had tickets with Frontier and Oculus, however oculus never replied to that ticket  but Frontier did. They gave me a cool work around, to create a new shortcut to the launcher with the switch /VR suffixed on the end of it. I only used this on my frontier launcher version, not the oculus version, but double clicking that icon takes me straight through the launcher, into VR. Granted the screen blacks out after displaying the frontier logo and remains dark while it loads up, but once at main menu the the VR headset displays. I've attached a screenshot Frontier Support gave me of the required suffix to the launcher shortcut. Thanks to CMDR's Ares and Kosmos for their help in this matter.

I've done a clean install of the graphics driver to the latest version (382.53) as suggested but no difference... I suspect the issue lies with oculus home. When I get a chance I'll try windows clean install and see how that pans out.

I uninstalled Steam VR. As I have an oculus rift any steam game that runs on the oculus just works without steam vr installed as it doesn't need it. Steam keeps on asking me to install it, but I refuse.
