Youtuber Kornelius Briedis seems to have had it with Fdevs

What? They probably wern't even in bed when you posted this!

So, he's got bored/fed up/whatever with ED. The guy has sunk thousands of hours into the game. We will all reach that stage sooner or later.

There are many reasons why FD might want to consider changing how they do things, and many reasons why they shouldn't. KB playing another game isn't one of those reasons. Hell, Obsidian Ant stopping playing wouldn't be a reason either. Or me stopping or you.

If a majority stopped playing... yeah, maybe. Or maybe FD would simply shut down the project and start a new one at that point. At the end of the day, that is what will happen eventually.

But only FD know the numbers of people playing.

On the flip side, we have new people joining the forums and playing the game every day: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/16-Introductions

And that's just those who announce themselves.

Some of those in future might become content creators. Or maybe they will play 10, 100, 1000 hours and quit.

The idea is, that Frontier might want to take a keener interest in the narrative that surrounds the development of their IP. They seem to operate inside a bubble, either unaware or deliberately ignorant of the wider social discourse surrounding Elite. Whether that discourse is founded in fact is entirely irrelevant, eventually, the myths become reality once enough patrons or potential patrons believe it to be true.

A youtuber stops playing for only one reason: He is able to gather more clicks when he changes to a different game. We are talking about business here, not "loving" a game. Only a minor base of youtubers really are enthusiasts.

To some extent yes. Depends on where people get their information from. I believe what I see from playing the game, not what others think of it, and i always take the opinions of others with a large pinch of salt because the internet is full of entitled whiners (not saying this is Korenlius! He liked a good moan every now and again, a lot of of it justified, but was usually quite positive).

Take GTA5 at the moment. The narrative at the moment is that the devs are greedy and the worst people on the planet who probably eat babies. The game hasn't changed though, its still a great game, and doesn't affect my enjoyment of it.

Yeah, but conversely GTA5 isn't a niche game within a niche market. People know what it is and know what to expect. Elite is a different beast, many people looking into it these days will be looking at it as a fresh IP. The public discourse surrounding it will have a far greater impression on the potential market than it does for GTA5.

I swear to space jesus, you do more whining than anyone else on the forum. 90% of your posts are whining about people whining, the other 10% are just condescending trollop.

Hahaha...I always enjoy the English language gems from this community!

...'condescending trollop' - classic my friend, just classic [big grin]

I can't believe you actually said that.

First google hit reports 75 million have been sold. That's one hell of a niche. ED is a niche game, GTA... hell no. Its got mass market appeal.

Its like your entire post is backwards!

Makes a post to whine about people who whine about people who whine.

Breaking news: --- Youtuber Kornelius stops playing the game - Thargoid Invasion cancelled - They don't want to live in this galaxy anymore ---

I wondered what happened to him as I enjoyed his videos. Seems he has given up on the game due to many bad designs. It's a real shame. Fdev, you need to wake up.

Stop politicising someone's leisure choices. He moved games because another game came along that he liked. He didn't move on because he despised the game he was playing. [sane] people do not play games they don't like. People also play more than one game. And some people people do not carry on making videos of the same game for the rest of their life.

You're seeking to attribute and place weight in a vaporous line of reasoning: Why someone else who paid exactly the same money for a product as I did stopped making some videos I have never seen.

Even if correct in your assumption: So what?

I miss Kornelius's ED vids too, they were very good. Also, he was not shy of criticising FDev. If he quit for the reasons you speculate I would have expected a 'I quit ED' video from him.

You're mistaken. Watch the video. He doesn't go on and on about it, but he definitely left unwillingly, not because he simply "got bored". Briefly, in the beginning of the video, he mourns the current state of Elite, and express his displeasure with the direction Frontier has taken. And almost sadly going on to wonder how to fill the void left by Elite, a game he loved and promoted, and criticized with the best intentions.

Kornelius Breidis, while I didn't always agree with him, had some of the most insightful commentary and analytics on YouTube regarding Elite. I would go so far as to say that his channel was more important and more influential than any other YouTuber, including ObsidianAnt. Especially among veterans in the know. His loss is a blow to the community, and a bad sign for the direction the game is going.

If I took a break, and came back knowing nothing other than that KB had quit, I would be deeply concerned.

Kinda sums up the random nature of this community. I can remember when his channel used to get lots of down votes, people used rip into the poor guy over his accent, now apparently he's some youtube god and ED's sales depends on his words of wisdom :-/ Yeaah right.. He had some good vids for people who weren't sure about making builds, also a lot of good stuff on stats.. That's as far as it got.
