Road to Imperial Cutter

Hello,
I've never played ED before, my journey will begin on June 27th only. But I have already checked out all the game ships.
I chose Imperial Cutter as my goal, because... because it's the best looking one.
And now I am interested, how long did it take you to get this ship? Grinding aspect is very important for me

While i can't speak from experience on the Empire side of things, you need to be ready as the grind is long. First you need to rank up with the Empire, to the rank of Duke, which takes quite a while, and when you reach the required rank you are going to need just shy of 209 Million credits to buy the ship.

Also, you are going to need at least another 50 million to fit anything decent to it, and you need to make sure that you have enough left over to afford the rebuy, which is 10 million credits before any upgrades. Never fly without enough for a couple of rebuys.

Personally, i've never been a fan of the larger Imperial ships, they look too much like an Airbus to me. The Imp Eagle and Imp Courier are nice though

Hope this helps CMDR

And my advice is do not grind towards it, just play the game and let it happen.

If you just blindly do only what is necessary to get to a ship as quick as possible two things can happen.

1) You'll get bored and disheartened long before you ever reach the Cutter.

2) You get to the Cutter and find it ain't all that.

I'm approaching 1350 hours of play-time and I should be in a position to purchase my first Cutter tonight. I have not been single-mindedly working on Imperial reputation though....

I actually like the look of the Space Cow, errr i mean Type 9. If only it flew a little better than a drunk steamroller!

209 million? Holy shi@, I figured the larger ships would be expensive but wow that's expensive lol I like it though because if I really want a certain ship that costs that much gives me a longer reason to grind for it. I have my eyes on one of the Type ships, I like the look of the type-7.

Yep, the T-7 is a nice ship. Was able to fly oe in the recent beta.

As for the price tag of the Cutter: the 209 MCr will get you the ship in a minimum configuration. Add decent drives and a FSD that cn actually move it, double that figure. Should you be as crazy as to want to add a top tier fuel scoop - well, just that one alone costs 290 MCr. So you better have >1 BnCr available if you want to play that game...

.... never forgetting the First Rule of flying any ship in E: D - "don't fly without rebuy"!

(i.e. being unable to afford the rebuy cost, typically 5% of the purchase price of ship and all equipment, may mean that a player loses the ship entirely)

Agreed, i think you need a bare minimum of 500 Million Credits before purchasing one of the big three, ie Anaconda, Corvette and Cutter

Inserting a noob into an imperal cutter is like letting a 12 year old drive a lambo. In addition, if one is having issues with grinding, than the game is playing you rather than you are playing the game.

I love the look of the Imperial Cutter in black, but I just can't see myself working with the Empire. Luckily, I'm more in tune with the Federation and I also love the look of the Federal Corvette with a white paintjob. So that's my long-term goal in ED. It'll be like having my own mini Star Destroyer.

I recon it's nice to have long term goals, but at my age, long term means something completly different. Hell, I'll be glad if I can live long in real life let alone the duration of the game life, enough to afford to move up one class above winder without being destroyed by one of you youngsters.

I would love to get the Cutter, but knowing how slow I've been so far in gaining credits in game I'll count myself lucky to be able to get the Imperial Clipper...

Ah well, one of my commanders is *almost* rich enough to buy a Type 9 for doing community goals, which should help with the bank balance in the same way the Python does currently, but with a few more zeros in the number :)
