[PROPOSAL] Simple way to utilise "new assets" to make more CMDRs feel special, as well as informing them of "galactic breaking news"?

And another example? For any CMDRs who haven't yet had a Thargoid interdiction/encounter, a mission to fly to a specific system to try and investigate an odd anomaly? And guess how that one ends?

Or of course, to retrieve a bit of a barnacle maybe from somewhere? :)

Basically using the assets available, and making a CMDR potentially feel special for a moment, and/or even introduce them to something they were not even aware of!

A couple people mentioned community goals (CGs). That gave me an alternative idea.

Instead of reprogramming the game to give these missions, which isn't as easy as most people think, especially as it would push back other content, why don't we use the existing in game assets.

See, when Canonn needed a mega ship, we were told to ship supplies out to help build it, then it became a albeit moving station we could visit to do missions and such like other stations. This was a CG.

So, why not just have CGs to build tourist outposts/stations at these sites. Not only do people get involved through the CG, but when the station is built, it will spawn missions to and from it people can take, all without changing any game mechanics.

Now that's a win win in my book.

Virtual Rep.

I do hope that FD is reading this thread.

I am out of rep for you, unfortunately. I would rather pass Multi Crew and have missions like you suggested.
This shows again how much potential FDev leaves unused. Instead we get Ram Tahs survey mission (only if you happen to dock at a port in Meene or have read Gal Net by accident), which is to be done by tedious trial and error or by poring over Excel sheets (again!). The most curious - to be neutral - thing is DBOBE wants this game not to revolve around excel sheets. Yet FDev designs this game to be impossible or at least insanely difficult to progress without them (e.g. Engineers, Guardians, Thargoids). WHY?

[I mentioned this in another thread, but thought I'd post it in a dedicated new thread]

When a fairly unique new discovery is made (eg: new derelict base, generation ship, alien base, alien growth discovery, even a highly unique geyser location or the like), after a few days, why not start offering a large numbers of CMDRs (who fit any applicable criteria and have not already been to the location) missions to go and scan them (or anything else that makes sense).

ie: A company urgently requests you gather information/data from this exciting new discovery and is willing to pay well if it's obtained quickly for them.

Outcome:-
  • This tells CMDRs who do not live on these forums or watch ED youtube videos about new discoveries/assets in the game they may otherwise not know about.
  • It make them feel more "special" and that they live in a more interesting and dynamic galaxy - ie: A request just to them to see something they've not heard about!
  • They get a mission reward as a good excuse to see/visit the asset. ie: Why not instead just watch a youtube video?
Note: Building on this, the mission depth around these sort of things could surely get more involved. eg: When a generation ship is discovered, after a while (a month later) maybe a scientific vessel is stationed there, and (if you've previously been to the location or taken part in a previous associated mission) you're now offered a mission to take supplies to that vessel, or bring some data back etc etc...

ps: I'm not suggesting spamming CMDRs with such missions/messages, just offering rare periodic ones not only to inform them of interesting "new stuff", but to also offer them reasons for going there, and ultimately some variety in gameplay.

Such a simple and elegant idea, you'd almost expect a games designer to think of this kind of solution and implement it. ;)

It certainly is a good idea! It kind've harks back to when we used to be able to "subscribe" to journals in Frontier First Encounters - something I'd certainly like to get back in game, along with in game access to some of the radio stations...

I think there is a need to include those players that want to experience the various pieces of content, such as the Thargoids. I for one don't really have a clue about the various bits and pieces available to do, apart from the stuff you find in stations etc.

As a previous poster said, I got this game so that I can have a go at these things and have fun doing them at the same time, and I'm not one for trawling through forums, websites or You Tube to find out about them, especially as I work and my game time is limited. In fact the only reason I know about some of this stuff is sneakily looking at this forum during my working hours, and since there are a mountain of forum posts, it's difficult to sift through while trying to avoid being caught ;)

CG missions could be one way of getting people involved, but I think having a static set of missions to introduce content in a dynamic sandbox might be harder to implement than it first appears. Maybe some of the content could be set up as a set of missions done when you first start, designed to give an outline of some of the things available?

I may be a bit biased, because "mission running" is one of my primary playstyles. But I feel the mission system has so much untapped potential.
Adding a seemingly continual stream of new discovery missions based on newly discovered content/locations would be awesome.

I suppose this would be a bit similar to the passenger mission tourist destinations. But I'd hope it could be a bit more 'dynamic'. Maybe updating the database with newly available discovery missions every weekly server tick?

Fab idea. FD sort of do this with beauty hotspots, they could do with this stuff too

+1 I'm hoping that FD work on pulling is into the story more in game.

[As mentioned elsewhere on the forum] - Just imagine if you being a CMDR with cabins in your ship received a distress message for immediate help at Oracle?

You may not even be aware of what was going on there... Afterwards you probably would :)
