june 26th physical copies

I preordered the Legendary edition physical copy, just being bored I called the GameStop I preordered at and asked if they are having any midnight releases for the 27th because if they were they could give me my copy then and there. The guy who works there told me I can come in at 9pm Monday night to get it if I wanted. I know this is a dumb question but I guess I will have to wait until midnight Eastern time to actually play ED?

Safe to assume that. Just because you have a physical (or even digital) copy of the game doesn't mean the game would be playable until the server connections go live. Hell they could allow everyone on PS4 to get their copies today but it wouldn't mean anything until the servers are available to actually play on.

I knew that was going to be the answer but wanted to ask anyways. Atleast I will have it downloaded and ready to go and waiting when I get off work Tues. That day at work is going to be a killer lol

True, but he'll be ahead of schedule since he'll have time for any patch jobs. So it might help a little...

Even though the severs probably won't be live, it would be really cool if we could still do the training missions just to get a feel for the controls, etc.

Agreed - It'll be the back end servers validating your login that will govern when you can access the game. The disk will give you the client end, but until Frontier allow the authentication it'll be useless.

Developers sometimes spin up the back end servers early to cater for the various retail routes that the launch day restriction (it helps flatten any login spikes).

If you have bought disk rather than digital, you will also have to factor in the day1 patch. The disks will have been pressed some weeks ago so that they can be produced in the high numbers needed for retail. This means that last minute optimisation will not have been included on the disk and will need to be downloaded before the game can be played. (Developers in the past have back-end validated that only the correct version of the client connects, meaning that your disk version will need to be up-issued to 1.1 or similar before it'll work).

on the other hand - you could be lucky...

I say you have a good chance to play it early because nowadays there are all kind of streamers and reviewers who get to play before the exact release. There must be servers online at that point but who knows.

I know I will definetly be trying come 9:15 when I get home.

Sort of need to know what time zone you're in.

A few people on Facebook have reportedly got the disk. Probably why that FAQ was put up as it doesn't work yet.

When I grab it come Monday night, I wonder if even the training portion of it will be unavailable. Like I said before it would be awesome if it was available and could get some practicing down until the servers open the flood gates. I am going to guess I wont even be able to access that.

If the servers to link PSN and Frontier accounts are up you might be able to play the training missions, but I suspect not.

ugh I really hope so, would be awesome to be able to customize my character and play some training that night since I have to be at work the next morning bright and early.

Reports say nothing works, it won't get to the main menu as it fails a server check. Let us know how you get on.

They may not be up now but I would think you would be fine on Monday night. In my experience developers will activate servers quite a bit in advance to run tests, etc... for launch. Plus if there are any press copies out for review they will need to be able to get into the galaxy so it acts as a good way to get load balancing sorted. Plus with a 'midnight' launch window they won't leave it till then to press the button.

When I was on the DriveClub preview the servers were running a full week before 'launch'. They then did a 2 hour 'reset' on the day before launch to kill all the scores/times/etc... Keep us posted!
