FDev, you just upset a *lot* of people.

Engineers upset the balance of the game severely, as is proofed by the plethora of complaints regarding FDevs continued balance passes every patch for PvP, specifically engineered assets, while paying "no attention" to the other facets of the game.

Some people may like it but it was, via mechanics and execution, probably the worst thing they've done so far. They should have gone with what they had originally done back in the pre-release days and just made the different weapon types available on the market for a higher cost / higher rep requirement.

The idea alone that there are only a handful of people out there who can modify parts for these ships in a culture that's been flying the stars for thousands of years is ludicrous to begin with. It was stupid. It never should have made it past the idea table.

Sounds like PvP is the problem, not Engineers. I know which one I'd axe if I were FDev. ;)

The thing is, pvp has been from the beginning and always will be a part of the game. Engineers is just some half thought out they tacked on because someone got a wild hair up their bums about modified/upgraded modules being for sale on the regular market.

From what I'm gathering so far, the manner in which you've conducted your exploit punishment have been nothing less than extremely clumsy. Instead of only removing the rolls which were exploited, you've also elected to remove anything that might have been a legitimate roll. What you're literally telling us is "We know you cheated, but since we can't tell which module you cheated to upgrade, we're taking this sledgehammer to everything we think might have been exploited." I'm seeing a lot of people having lost their legitimately upgraded modules... and some performed the exploit once out of curiosity.

You're losing players pulling this stuff, guys. It's bad enough you guys took said sledgehammer to anything that looked suspicious, but according to reddit posts some people still have their exploited modules.

I'm really glad I didn't let my curiosity get the better of me... I probably would have had my FAS wiped from existence if I had from ONE module.

[EDIT] Since some people would rather not actually read the thread and see that I attempted to clarify, I might as well add this in. I jumped the gun and posted this believing that any roll viewed as "suspect" would be targeted. I didn't spend a month dedicated to engineering my FAS in all aspects to have it dedicated over a false positive, you know. But obviously as more information has come out it seems FDev have a way of actually tracking these things, so... I tried admitting to the mistake, but nobody's actually READING the thread.

Y'all really like to resort to immediate derision and vitriol to any opinion you don't like though, do you? What a nice bunch you are. :p

If the entire Griefing community up and left tomorrow because of this, then it would hardly be noticed. So any kind of punishment that they dole out for cheating is fine by me.

Crime and punishment system implemented in a real-life style.
Much complaining from cheaters.

And nothing of value was lost.

It doesn't make it right though.

But I do agree.

Military ranking is another issue that needs sorting. The only way to seemingly progress at a "normal" pace is to do the Quince/Sothis&Ceos thing.
But if they made ranking faster from normal non-grindy methods, then these places would just let you rank up almost instantly instead.

Of course cheating isn't right.

But normally people need a reason (and of course the opportunity) for cheating.
If two persons with the same skill that put in the same amount of work don't get even roughly a comparable result, then that may be enough reason for some.

Thankfully you are not a dev. Engineers are here to stay. Don't like them? Too bad.

""""Legitimately""""

Also, if anyone used it, out of curiosity or not, they deserve all they got. Indeed they've got away lightly. I'd still send them all to Beagle Point.

Engineers is certainly a problem. The god roll modules are legitimate aspects of the system Frontier designed. The cheaters only accessed what the system allowed (they just accessed them in an expediated manner by exploiting a bug).
The fact the God modules are possible is a far bigger problem in my eyes.

According to the work of Cressy there are THREE things you need - the opportunity, the motivation and the ability to rationalise it to yourself as not being 'wrong'. You forget every cheater has managed to convince themselves that what they are doing is not wrong.

funny how fdev doesn't do anything about combat loggers who break TOS, they get away with it. but if someone does this and they wipe engineered modules that arent even exploited. such hypocrites
