FDev, you just upset a *lot* of people.

Sorry Jenner, I was guilty of doing this, please be aware though that we are just venting, a good number of those that are now known to have cheated have been taunting us, insulting us and making out they are 'better than us' for what seems like an age, and it turns out for a good while they have been cheating. To be honest with you, in my opinion a bit of naming and shaming in this case is probably an apt punishment alongside that handed down by Frontier, some of these guys and gals brought this upon themselves, but I will desist.

Certainly what I would advise. While I understand your - and everyone's - frustration at these taunts and insults please let the punishments come from us so that you avoid bringing yourselves down to the same level of pettiness and become caught in the nastiness of the whole thing.

Our forum mods, us here at FDev in the Support Team and Community Team will happily handle any further punitive actions should they be necessary.

Should have reset all engineers aswell imho, make them grind it all over again to even get access to them.

Seems to be a popular call from many of the community, and other such similar punishments of greater severity than those we've applied. For now we're going with the wipe as laid out in the Support Team's post explaining things. We'll perhaps consider more severe measures should something like this occur in future.

Hey Dale, thanks for the reply, can I just ask if this was a 'first pass' by Frontier and there will be more to follow or did you guys catch all the fish in one net?

Easy? No, I personally think that FD handled this correctly, in the end. Losing all modules if one has been exploited is a just punishment. More is not necessary.

I don't believe this is punishment but a simple case of FD not being able to identify specific modules that were upgraded using the exploit. They were able to identify which blueprints have been used in conjunction with the exploit. As a consequence, to ensure the correct module upgrades are removed, they have had to remove all upgrades that were obtained using that particular blueprint.

This would explain the rather unusual approach taken by FD. It would also explain the soft stance taken against the exploiters - the usual softly softly approach. Myself? I would have had no hesitation in closing the accounts. Unfortunately FD long ago missed the opportunity to build a reputation as a no nonsense developer with the result that they are constantly fire fighting and it looks like bad press is on the horizon (hey....I bin gone done and made a joke....naa).

If it happens again, you should.

Today should be a final warning. If these guys cheat again, they should be completely removed from the game.

As an Open BGS player, I am looking forward to seeing all those affected by today's FD action grind PvE in Open like the rest of us.

Don't go hidin' in Solo or Group, now!

Wouldnt be surprised if a bunch of PvE combat pilots will possibly engage in some PvP in the coming days...

Now ban combat loggers to show that you really take action against cheating, FDev. I'm sick of fighting an equal or stronger enemy only for them to log once they're about to lose.

From what I'm gathering so far, the manner in which you've conducted your exploit punishment have been nothing less than extremely clumsy. Instead of only removing the rolls which were exploited, you've also elected to remove anything that might have been a legitimate roll. What you're literally telling us is "We know you cheated, but since we can't tell which module you cheated to upgrade, we're taking this sledgehammer to everything we think might have been exploited." I'm seeing a lot of people having lost their legitimately upgraded modules... and some performed the exploit once out of curiosity.

You're losing players pulling this stuff, guys. It's bad enough you guys took said sledgehammer to anything that looked suspicious, but according to reddit posts some people still have their exploited modules.

I'm really glad I didn't let my curiosity get the better of me... I probably would have had my FAS wiped from existence if I had from ONE module.

[EDIT] Since some people would rather not actually read the thread and see that I attempted to clarify, I might as well add this in. I jumped the gun and posted this believing that any roll viewed as "suspect" would be targeted. I didn't spend a month dedicated to engineering my FAS in all aspects to have it dedicated over a false positive, you know. But obviously as more information has come out it seems FDev have a way of actually tracking these things, so... I tried admitting to the mistake, but nobody's actually READING the thread.

Y'all really like to resort to immediate derision and vitriol to any opinion you don't like though, do you? What a nice bunch you are. :p

I read your edit and I think it's commendable that you acknowledged the fact that you jumped the gun on a conclusion without making sure you had all the facts. I just wanted to pointed out that what you're complaining about the forum members doing to you is exactly what you did to FD in your post. This kind of thing happens way too often. But unfortunately I don't think it'll ever change.

Maybe there is hope for this game yet. :)

This action will not get me to play in open, as I am still not interested in being someones 'game content', but it is nice to know that FD is taking on the cheaters. IMO they should have been banned, but that's just me.

The 'upset' folks should be glad they got off as well as they did. FD went pretty easy on them IMO. And if it takes another round to catch everyone? Reload the rail guns. :D

Good work FDev. Cheaters, be thankful FDev were very generous to go to such a precise punishment.. The big banhammer would have been much, much easier.. and many would argue more appropriate.

Wouldnt be surprised if a bunch of PvE combat pilots will possibly engage in some PvP in the coming days...

I might have considered that, if I knew for sure all of the cheaters had been caught, and if I had all of the engineers unlocked. But I don't, and won't (bother to unlock the remaining), so I would have no chance against a fully engineered ship, let alone a god-rolled one. It would be like jumping into a firefight with a BB gun. Which is just stupid.

My opinion of course...

I would like to thanks Fd for their action.

Very very well done.

Thanks.

I have Always hated those cheaters: what's the menaing inPvp if you cheat? Guess the intelligent age of those people is slightly above 12 years old.

I wonder the faces of those cheaters when they have launched Fd... just to discover that an anaconda was ravaging their :D[haha]

No it didn't, because it was not relevant to my reply.

If, however, you knew that the exploit existed for a year and didn't do anything to report it... Well that's a whole different kettle of fish.

How do you know I didn't do anything to report it ?

Go back and read what you originally wrote. While you are siting derision, make certain that you site your own. You don't even qualify as entertaining in your hypocrisy.

I think FD did the right thing if they removed all engineered module modifications. If they can't tell which were changed by the cheat remove all. Even if they know removing all the modifications is just a good way of saying, don't cheat again the punishment makes it not worth it in the long run.
.
You cheat you paid the price. Seems fair to me.
