Whistle blowers shouldn't be punished :(

That depends on what he did besides whistleblowing. I'm guessing FD have reviewed his account and found more than he is stating online. Either that or FD is considering him to be inciting people to use the exploit more that just reporting it. Bottom line is they made a call and they can't really debate publicly why it ended as it did, so we will never know why.

Have a nice weekend

Don't be so optimistic, people who was punished yesterday will take back what they loss, very, very soon and they will find another way how to gain their own privileges over other playable mass.

If I were Frontier I would stick the players using this exploit on a watchlist, enhanced logging, asset sanity checks and such.

Sticking PvPers on a watchlist isn't really fair, but once you've been done for exploiting there is reasonable cause.

Seriously I'd do this, the well being of the game is on the table here.

We have seen how deep the rabbit hole goes, exploits WERE the overriding PvP meta and will be again unless it's kept in check.

From what I'm gathering so far, the manner in which you've conducted your exploit punishment have been nothing less than extremely clumsy. Instead of only removing the rolls which were exploited, you've also elected to remove anything that might have been a legitimate roll. What you're literally telling us is "We know you cheated, but since we can't tell which module you cheated to upgrade, we're taking this sledgehammer to everything we think might have been exploited." I'm seeing a lot of people having lost their legitimately upgraded modules... and some performed the exploit once out of curiosity.

You're losing players pulling this stuff, guys. It's bad enough you guys took said sledgehammer to anything that looked suspicious, but according to reddit posts some people still have their exploited modules.

I'm really glad I didn't let my curiosity get the better of me... I probably would have had my FAS wiped from existence if I had from ONE module.

[EDIT] Since some people would rather not actually read the thread and see that I attempted to clarify, I might as well add this in. I jumped the gun and posted this believing that any roll viewed as "suspect" would be targeted. I didn't spend a month dedicated to engineering my FAS in all aspects to have it dedicated over a false positive, you know. But obviously as more information has come out it seems FDev have a way of actually tracking these things, so... I tried admitting to the mistake, but nobody's actually READING the thread.

Y'all really like to resort to immediate derision and vitriol to any opinion you don't like though, do you? What a nice bunch you are. :p

Well done FD glad you are being proactive. I'm happy you are doing this.

I sure his has been said (I can't be bothered to read 65 pages!) but I'll add my tuppenny's worth to this - WELL DONE FDEV.

Cheaters count yourselves lucky you weren't banned - you have got off lightly

So after 72 pages, is someone upset yet?

One or two though mostly on reddit...personally Im deeply upset by SDC cancelling their much touted spicy bois 2 campaign...a runaway success by all accounts...Im still upset because it never happened and they didnt have the good manners to inform anyone.

I think just about all of them threatened to quit "until fd fix their game"...strange because thats exactly why they quitting apparently. Ill miss them terribly...can ye tell?

Losing something that you cheated to get is not a punishment.

This !!! A punishment is always "on-top", thats the whole thing about a punishment. It is intended that it causes "pain" to prevent someone from doing it again. Giving back the advantages is obvious.
If somebody breaks into someones house, stealing things and got caught, can not only bring back all the stolen items and then everything is fine again. He gets put into jail of course.

Also "I tried it for curiosity" is no vaild excuse for me. Breaking a rule is breaking a rule, there ist no right for "testing out exploits". Ok, if somebody test an exploit and then completely removes the advantage again after testing, then I would say a punishment would not be neccessary. But I would report it then to Frontier to make sure they get knowledge of my real intentions.

So if Frontier can make sure, that only people get punished who really used the exploit, than I am completely fine with the punishment, I don't care if a cheater looses legit progress in that process. Thats the punishment then.

Credit where it's due, the Redditors are ripping in to that cheater :D

The line that got me laughing was

I publicized the exploit since we found out other PvP groups had been using it.

so he publicised, not because it was right but because *someone else* started using it! You can't make this stuff up.

"Yeah we've been ripping the hell out of people for a year now but it's becoming a level playing field and we want to stop anyone else getting it. "

Bottom line is: they were so arrogant they thought FD would do nothing so only they would have their God rolls. It's blinding how hilarious this is. We need a new word past schadenfreude.

Glad they sorted this out.

Personally hoping it is the start of actually sorting out various other exploits (actual exploits, not game mechanics that aren't quite working as intended, as punishing those would suck pretty badly for unsuspecting folk, exploits have to be intentional)

We can hope. There are others, they've even been reported. Premium ammo exploit, detectable combat logging, and apparently being able to apply premium ammo to a laser... which has no ammo... I have no idea how they work (except logging, which is tough to accurately determine), but these should be punished as well, and most importantly, fixed. (not that you can fix combat logging)

Actually just watched a video on how the premium ammo exploit works...

To be honest, I don't feel like you can punish it, as it basically happens to you, rather than you trying to do it, you might not even know you have done it. It's just a bug, rather than an exploit seemingly.

What about that not being attacked by station defences one though, wonder how that works.
