Is Elite ambitious enough? CR believes we are not even close

-Not close to the level of moneygrabbing?
-Not close to the level of overpromising and underdelivering?
-Not close to the level of missleading their original backers?

Dito! I'm soooo ****** that I actually spent 30 something bucks on that piece of crap. If I hadn't I could have been in the Premium Beta of ED ***.

Well I guess thats the 'friendship' over with then

Everyone following CIG and SC community at forums for last year know there's never have been any close friendship. There are just parts of SC community who would want everyone to get along (admirable cause). But overall CIG has been openly hostile to ED in last year or so - . And no, I don't think CR pledging helped ED KS, we pulled ourselves out with activities like book crowdfunding.

Is it jealousy, or what...who knows. I just know that I have meany people saying that ED has challenged their world view regarding SC as being "the" space sim.

I personally don't really care who is the best...I just dislike lot of disinformation I hear all over the place regarding SC, ED and space sims in general.

Hype hype hype... Why do you think SC got all the kiddies?

Happy here.
Brian :)

I tell you one thing I've learnt through all this is how powerful marketing can be. It will be interesting to see how things work out in the end - anyhow I'm off to continue machinating on how to take over the galaxy :D:p

When I launch from a Bengal carrier on a mission taking part in some grand campaign, I might well just have landed on a lonely planet thousands of light years from home in E : D. I simply won't get the one thing in the other game, and that's ok.
Perfectly said.

My fingers are crossed for both games. :)

It is hard for me to comprehend why Chris even strives to finish his game. He already conjured up 50 mil out of thin air. That is success! Time to move on to the next project.

On a more serious note, the vision i see is: let's fragment potential game to 1,000 pieces and sell each piece for n bucks during next ten years. Ambitious? Absolutely. Yet, it turns me away, when piece of art is traded in this "fragmented" fashion. I am much more entertained with what David has to offer: pay me 80 Eur and you get the full game before the end of 2014 and all future expansions included in that price. Sorry, Chris, i won't live with you in your dream.

d) SC has multiple studios working on game components, everyone will be in a for a bit of a shock when those studios start pumping out content at a rate which ED can't match. It's modular approach and it's not just 10-15 programmers. Anyone who knows anything about project management / programming understands how quickly things will roll out. It's like designing a car. 10 guys can't do it in a year. Multiple teams starting at different points in the project while synced by project managers create entire product lines in months.

CIG has 200+ programmers with multiple studios working independently on multiple game components at once. UK studio is working on the single player component. Montreal is working on FPS. LA is working on dog fighting ... you get the point. Most people don't understand how a project of that scope works. It's no

Yeah, the integration testing will be a nightmare. With that many revs they should be light years ahead already. Also, they all cost money. ED seem to be taking a more Lean Startup approach, getting early playable content out there and seeing what the community like and don't like, messing with balancing and the like. Then they pivot or stick to their guns.

Just for reference I couldn't give a monkeys if SC is better or not, might buy it if it's good, however if FD declared that they had 200 devs working before they had game mechanics in place and a decent revenue stream I would be deeply concerned. It is not the way the modern startup works.

Nice job of taking a quote out of context to artificially create a perspective, let's have a look at the whole part:

He is correct, the SC vision is far beyond that of ED, fairly straightforward to understand I think?

Ahh...yes; the 100,000,000 solar systems versus one hundred twenty...?

Thing is, I don't think that is true. How much grander can you envision than a dynamic, living _galaxy_ in 1:1 scale.

Roberts is embarrassing himself here. I expected more class from him.

Saying that, Frontier needs to push harder and set the bar even higher than SC. Why not? This game has the potential to be the greatest space sim ever made and the development team is strong and moving fast. They can take the entire SC market if they are smart.
Haven't you seen the ED galaxy we're playing in right now, development plans from kickstarter and last newsletter? That's a bar that SC will never reach. Trust your own judgement and don't read into the baseless propaganda.

If I am being honest, I like star citizens pitch and ideologies better than elites. Both games look like they are going to be worthy of my time and worth buying a joystick for and luckily I can play both.

I think it's because I'm an mmo player, looking for his fix.

I must say that IF I really need to compare, and I really don't want to, I like the atmosphere in ED more, because it's dark, it's bloody difficult, I smell Blade Runner and the real Star Wars in this game. however that's just me.

I've backed SC with a whole lot more than ED, FD just don't want my money ;)

I heard SC is secretly funded by the NSA and Eric Snowden was upset when replaced by Chris Roberts, which lead to his defection to the former USSR. Putin, an avid ED player and Alpha backer, took Snowden under his repressive wing in an attempt to thwart Chris Roberts bid for world domination.

When Angela Merkel was found to have backed ED, her cell phone was subsequently tapped.

Israel, after catching Palestinians playing SC, invaded the Gaza Strip.

Fox news claims CNN are "ED terrorist". CNN insist Fox news is forcing people to become "Star Citizens" or face deportation back to Mexico.

My mother refused to make me my favorite meal (biscuits and gravy) saying; "Why don't you go have tea and biscuits with your rebel friends"?

I haven't had sex in a week, after the Mrs. caught me posting on this forum. She's filed for divorce stating "Cruel and unusual game affiliation" as grounds for the termination.

My sons will no longer sleep on their bunk-beds. As one is an ED fan, the other a SC fan, both insist they be on top.

The world is ending my friends.

[edit] The one son has been put up for adoption.

I went premium beta because I loved Elite II and played it all the time as a kid. Honestly I don't know anything about SC or care. I bought this because it was Elite and I know that I love it. He can say whatever he wants about any other space game out there. Let me go explore and trade and maybe get attacked by the police outside of a station.

Everyone should read the article and paragraph in question, CR didn't say what people here are saying.

He merely stated SC has more backers, which is true.

"I think that's why so many people have backed Star Citizen, because it is the ambition of the vision, right? You know, Elite Dangerous looks great, right, and they're out there, but they're not even close to the level [of backers] that we are, partly because we've put this vision out there, and everyone says "That's crazy, but you know, I would love to see it happen." And I think people are signing up for that."

He merely believes that the amount of backers SC has is *partly* to do with the vision he's articulated. And of course he would think that because he believes in his vision and of course we cannot measure which is a better vision from any objective stance, we'll merely prefer the one that appeals to us more in a subjective way. I could say I feel the vision of Pacman is better than that of ED or SC, because of its gaming purity.

The whole them and us thing is just typical nerd noise, Roberts said nothing of the kind.

I personally think both games could be great, or both games could flop. But here we've got 11 pages of nerd-rage and I cannot grasp why everyone has to turn it into a trivial little war.
