Elite Plastic Model Ship Kits

I have approached this with FD and they will not endorse a kickstarter type project. Ironic really given the games origin but hey.

I did a poll previously about which ship to release first and the Cobra won hands down. It wouldn't be my choice though. As a modeller I'd prefer the Asp X or DBX which is a much more interesting ship to model.

I'd quite like to see the scarab get some love. As a fan of mecha it appeals to me. Due to its amount of parts it might be easier to cast, not many overall large parts.

Shame that FD won't endorse it, bet they'd change tune if they saw all the pledges come in.

A quick google of "Elite Dangerous papercraft" should fuel your need, although that little rabbit hole leads on to much bigger things :)

I made card models of a few ships back in '84 rather than studying for my O levels. Study avoidance technique no 1 :)

I'm working on a kit idea for a Python, complete with my personal ship kit layout.

The main hull will be routed to create a silicon mold, then resin cast in upper and lower halves.
The small details like the thrusters, fans and other bits will be created in a similar fashion, using clear resin for light up bits, because the whole thing will be lit with leds and fiber optics.

Some paint, some custom printed decals, and it'll be ready for mounting the second assembly: the cockpit.

It'll be about a foot long, and I've got the meshes ready now. At this point I'm looking around for costs on getting the initial molds routed, then it'll be off to the races!

Nice :) your spoiler picture is broken :(

Uh oh, that's usually the way these BB boards work: with special needs.

It works and looks fine for me here, but experience says that doesn't mean anything. I'll get it sorted out and re-post when I've got something more interesting than images of the meshes. :D

Am I the only one who would love to be able to buy, build, and paint plastic model kits of my favorite Elite Dangerous ships?
Would love to be able to build a little Cobra and display it on my desk.
I'm surprised Frontier hasn't jumped on this already .

A series of quality scale model kits on the level of something we would find from the likes of Revell and other respected military aircraft model kit makers would be awesome!

I for one would most definitely buy them! There might be some issues with maintaining the same scale for the entire fleet though. anyone who has compared an Eagle to an Anaconda or Cutter would know what I am referring to.

Still.... I am sure plenty of ED fans would be all over these if they were ever offered.

Hello! I'm new and this is my first post! I was in search of a game like this, and after 12 hours I am nothing short of amazed. I love operating vehicles (airline captain by day), and love space and exploration. I play more Minecraft with my kids than I'd prefer, and feel like this is similar in that you can relax. I'm not interested in intense games that are all about battle and require fast and precise control manipulation. This game is the perfect amount. I do have some gaming background (video and other), and would be very interested in some ship models for my mantle! Ideally, a warhammer quality level type plastic would be my preference, but I'd be happy with anything, including a printable file for a nice cardstock model. Ill be keeping a close eye on these advancements. I'm looking forward to a fun future with Elite! ~ Josh

My endeavours in producing a kit for these has taken the back burner in favour of something that I am allowed to produce.

I am willing to invest is this however without a sample for FD to approve first and them frowning on funding the venture via pre-order by interest (odd seeing as FD crowdfunded tho whole game in the first place) I hav had to shelve it for the time being.

I will pursue the possible production of these ships as a kit in due course.

As an amateur, part time war-gamer, I can honestly say that I've never seen the quality in a plastic model anywhere like I see in Warhammer models. They are quality parts and fit miraculously! If I had my choice, the makers of Warhammer would be comissioned to do all the ED models, they would be a little more expensive (like Warhammer models are), and I'd pay happily... 🙄

There are many high quality plastic kits out there. Revel aren't one of them but the likes of Tamiya to name but one are a phenominal fit detail and finish.

I was looking at it and at the time EUL3D only did a couple of ships, none by gutamaya :-( and what I'd really want is an mperial clipper in 3d printed in clear resin, and I'd etch/frost parts of it to contrast, I reckon that would make a stunning ornament in my house. Yes the Duchess of Ridium is ok with it :)

That is simply awesome, you have some serious skills with CAD. I'd love to see this projects progress, would you mind PMing me updates?
