Small Worlds Expedition 2!

Well depending on your jump range you might not need to backtrack that far. I for example diverted via Sigma Orionis and didn't need to backtrack, but I have a 43Ly range.

This is exploration, not tourism, so expect to have to plot your own routes and not be entirely spoon-fed the whole way. And in exploration terms this is a kindergarten walk. Crossing the Abyss in a 30Ly ship, now that's a challenge.

As Vertical Blank mentioned; we can't hold everyone's hand. There is nothing that is meant to be "easy" the whole way through. SWE is meant to show people cool locations, and also teach along the way; teach challenges you may run into etc. when you actually go [properly] exploring.
And we're doing just that.

I have a 30Ly ship and was able to plot straight to it from WP2, you just have to set yourself up and know where the permit locked sectors are. Hence why I advised it's easier to go back towards WP1; versus trying to explain how to shortcut through between permit locked zones, which I did explain to those who asked. (but it's doable, we had quite a handful of people do it actually).

Evidence that it's doable; and it was checked beforehand actually (because I did it)

It isn't the safest route as you have to understand the risks, and there are quite a lot of unscoopables in the area which aren't helpful (not to mention it's easy to get stuck in a permit zone too).
Again, this is why I recommended most people to go back towards WP1 to cross the gap, as it is likely easier

Except those that like the challenge.

See routes plotted on left to WP3 thanks to EDSM tracking; I know of at least 10 people that did it.

Thanks Both - I wasn't being disrespectful so no need to be defensive :)

I am an experienced Explorer but I thought SWE was for noob explorers (well I'm pretty sure the 1st one was) and there was no warning prior to the event that potentially there was an issue routing from WP2 to WP3 for people not experienced in plotting their own routes instead of relying on the auto-plotting.

Just a heads up for next time might be worth putting a note in the waypoint table that informs pilots of the potential issue plotting a route across certain areas.

I took part in SWE1 and there were no such issues.

Thanks again for your replies though and I will look at plotting a route through, perhaps using some jumponium :)

Well TBH, during scouting, I never had the issue; doing everything in reverse. It plotted perfectly from WP3 to WP2, which was kind of weird to see that not be the case the other way around.

So I'm a bit curious to try it again.
Granted it was in my Anaconda, but even with a manually lowered jump range and economy mode... it routed the first try lol

It wasn't until a while after that I realized there was a sliver of COL 69 between two COL 70 sectors.
On the plus side; it allowed those of us tracking on EDSM to properly visualize the permit locked area.

So that's a plus [noob]

I was able to plot directly from WP2 to WP3 (have 50Ly range). Though of course I was sent to the wrong WP3 first of all. Has anyone reported to FD that we have two systems with the same name? I can only actually locate one of them, the other I can only get to by first selecting one of its neighbours - searching will only ever return the one system.

Got stranded on the way at Taurus Dark Sector VJ-Q b5-3, where I was hyperdicted by [alien]unknowns[alien] every time I tried to leave the system... until I logged. Before that I was hyperdicted four times in a row.

Went as fara Witch head and no sign so far of any activity. :)

Sounds exciting Cmdr Diffin,
I've made it to LBN 623 Sector FW-W D1-100 yesterday and haven't seen or heard of any Alien activity so far...

Well it looks like [alien]they're[alien] back anyway now.

Sorry, no video from me today as I missed everything due to RL commitments*. I think I'll be missing the next one too, but should be fine after that.

* Well, if I'd left my ship at the waypoint as I'd planned, I'd have made it. Unfortunately I got sidetracked by all the Maia shenanigans, so my ship is still there at the moment!

Hi, CMDR Vincent La Vache here (CMDR Igor Rock is my first account, CMDR Vincent La Vache my third ;) ).

I'm back from my vacation (that's why I couldn't start with the group), and I guess I'll have to make a little bit of a "speed game" tomorrow to catch up to the expedition... well, we'll see how long it takes me to get there. :)

This is what CMDR Vincent La Vache looks like:

And this is the "Beag Ialtag" ("Little Bat"), my trusty exploration Adder with a jump range of 32.43 Ly: :D

See you in the black,

Thanks for this great expedition with it's wonderfull sights... really enjoyed being out with my Cobra once more...
Only a holiday coming up next week forced me to progress a bit faster than planned.

Some sights from me and 'Dai' during the expediton and the return trip can be found >>> here

Beautiful screenshots!

I have finished coming back from Beagle :)

Stored my Corvette at Ganekpe and fitted my tiny Eagle, the Neutrino.

Moving now to the first system where I will begin the expedition.

Late ? Kiddo, wizards like me are never late.

Catching up on my video editing. This is from our o7 to Obsidian Ant, the formation breakup and race back to the dock.

Been feeling a bit of exploration fatigue the last couple days. Between being perpetually behind the main body (partly self inflicted due to wandering off course repeatedly), the lack of variety in exploration activities, and some interesting things happening back in the Bubble, I was debating on whether to head back.

But then I'd miss out on things like this:

I simply must thank Commander Zathen flying Anaconda Starblaster, assisted by Commanders Clockwork Sphinx and Gruene, all of the splendid Fuel Rats, who just bailed me out of a very sticky situation at Sifi LV-T b5-0 C, with seconds to spare. My tiny Sidewinder Enterprise runs out of fuel very quickly even just sitting in space whilst I'm posting on the forums, especially since I replaced the extra 1C Fuel Tank with 1A Shields after the bumps she took at WP1.

I heartily recommend the Fuel Rats' rescue service to the Expedition. Their organization is truly impressive, and their commanders are real professionals, and real gentlemen. Here is their link if anyone else needs to give them a call: https://www.fuelrats.com/i-need-fuel

I've only made it to 2 mass jumps so far and feel on my part i've mucked it up on both occasions. Is there a recommended procedure for these co-ordinated jump events?

Having said that, her C20 predecessor was known throughout the Navy as 'The Starship'. ;)

+1 I'm only a Naval geek myself, not a Naval man, although my father was in the Merchant Navy. Perhaps the C20 HMS Enterprise your father-in-law captained was only known as 'The Starship' to everyone else in the Navy except for the crew of Enterprise herself.

I gather that the older Enterprise was sold to a record producer who tried to refit her as an offshore pirate radio station for Northern Irish kids, but sadly was instead forced to sell her to an Australian mining company who now use her as a mobile residential facility.

Mucked it up in what way?

I'm a complete newbie to both multiplayer ED and Discord, so it was a bit of a learning curve for me too. My advice:

  • Make sure you're subscribed to the discord channel and listening to the "Expedition" voice channel. Lots of co-ordination stuff gets announced there, plus it's far less boring than just sitting around waiting for the jump.
  • Important announcements also get put in the "announcements" text channel, such as which system we're jumping to in the mass jump.
  • People tend to congregate on the planet for 20-30 minutes before the jump, before moving to a near point in space. Ask on discord if you're not sure where people are.
  • The biggest trick is getting into the instance with everyone else. There are two ways to do this:

    * The simplest way is to find a bunch of low wakes near the meetup point, target one of them and then drop in like you would with any other signal source. If there's a lot of them you'll probably be lucky. If there's just one of two it might be other commanders attempting to instance like you, so you may end up with one / no other people, in which case jump back into supercruise and try again. If the drop in takes a while it's a good sign you're in the right instance as the game loads in all the other ships.

    * By requesting a wing. Jump onto Discord and type &wingme in the #bot-abuse channel. This will add you to a list of people wanting wings. Usually within a few minutes you will get a wing invite in your comms panel. Accept the invite, then look in your contacts panel for a wing beacon. Target it and drop in like with the low wake. Once you are in the instance then drop your wing again via the comms panel ("options" under wing) so that the wing it free'd up for other people to use.
  • Once in instance, position yourself where you want. Target the jump system and turn to face it. The target system is generally announced in the discord "Announcements" channel, or over the voice channel, or you can just ask in game on local chat. Often people just quote the distance to the system, which makes it very easy to locate in your navigation panel, since targets are ordered by distance, and systems are at the bottom.
  • About a minute before jump, make sure you at throttle 0, and charge up your FSD ready for the jump. Make sure your gear/scoop/hardpoints are tucked away. Keep an eye on chat and an ear on discord to make sure the jump hasn't been postponed. If you are in a hot running ship you might want to wait to slightly nearer the time so you don't overheat.
  • At jump time there is generally a voice countdown over discord, then simply throttle forward full and enjoy the game lockup :D

Any Asteroid-Station near Blue Flash Sector GW-W C1-0?

Hello CMDRs,

unfortunately my SRV is defect with energy problems and I cannot explore the planets on the SWE2 any more. Does anybody know an possibility to repair it some 100 ly away from Blue Flash Sector GW-W C1-0? Otherwise I have no choice but fly the rest of the Expedition route on my own and return to the bubble before the official end on 8th of Juli.

Would be great to get better alternatives.
