The thing that I noticed is that at 8k from the star your moving quite fast and as you travel you will encounter more USS's than closer into the stars gravity well. But I only found a high chance of encountering "high grade" USS's in systems with a very high population. Use the galaxy map to find systems with the largest populations, navigate about 8k or so out to increase USS generation time and then get the star over the top left of your navigation panel, right in your screens corner, and you should travel around it like a toy on a string being swung around the star as it will be directly to your left.

I've experienced the opposite: the farest i go, the less USS are spawing. My method is the following:

- High pop system with according state to what you're looking for (boom / outbreak etc..)
- Deep space (check out bottom left quadrant)
- You don't need to go extremely fast, but not at 0% throttle either .
- If you don't find any within 10 min, jump out and pick another system.

Interestingly the USS guide that was linked in the OP talks about your method in its section on Myths :) But as long as it works for you, carry on [up]

7 to 8 hours downtime? Really? I've worked for large organizations and assisted some Sun servers upgrades. Never heard of an 8 hour downtime. 2 to 3 hours top. Unless they're not only upgrading the software but also replacing the hardware...

A nice surprise to see this rolling out a bit earlier than originally planned. [up]

Fingers crossed that all the effort put into the bug reporting forum was not in vain this time around.

DB updates maybe.

It's a game isn't it not some business critical application. Downtime isn't that big a deal really.

You can often work around these things and make it seamless, but it requires a whole load of extra work to do so.

Not sure what you consider large, but I have had upgrades on systems that took in excess of 24 hours.

Hey Kantos!

Nice to see a fellow ADer here on the forums! :D

The amount of down time is a bit perplexing to me as well. Only thing I can think of is that perhaps the addition of the PS4 servers to the mix is adding some additional prep time to the process. With this next update being the foundation for the PS4 launch, I am sure FDEV doesn't want to have any unexpected surprises to deal with.

Especially considering all eyes will be on ED this week as the PS4 community officially joins the ranks of the Pilot's Federation! :D

I had planned to jump into my fortification work this morning ahead of the update, but obviously I am going to have to wait till everything settles down. Any time we have a full server shutdown and maintenance like this ahead of a major update, the download servers will be maxed for at least the first 24 hours. So, I would advise everyone to plan for an additional 6-8 hours for the download itself.

See ya back at the ranch Kantos! [heart]

It's almost like they're adding loads of mysterious things that aren't mentioned in the patch notes or something :D

If that was in reply to my post cheers but I'm on a government pc which is locked down tighter than a duck's derriere, including pretty much every image hosting site in the free world being blocked, so it will have to wait until I get home. Cheers though.

If it wasn't in reply to my earlier post, well err... :p
