Neo_ERS, the first CMDR on scene to find the new structure has got his video up on Youtube now. Jump to about 6 min in to see the whole thing from up high.

Pacing is a fine art.
Months of nothing much and then the big reveal solved in a few hours doesn't seem quite right.
But hey, hopefully the site itself is interesting enough to keep us busy for a while.

Yeah, when I left for work this morning the thread was on page 109 (by my posts per page setting). When I hopped in just now to see what's up I noticed it was on page 118 so I knew something had occurred, bit of catch up reading and I see the world moved on.

To be fair it's possible that what was discovered was there all along and with sufficient thought and interpretation of clues there to be found and the new clue was just dropped to get folks moving in the right direction.

Note, this is not a complaint post, just an acknowledgement of how wickedly difficult it is to find the balance between hard but not impossible clues and Where's-Waldo-esque trivial clues when designing for a large set of highly motivated and intelligent folks. The first clues we may have overlooked as too obscure, the latter clues were too easy.

Oh well, my wife seems convinced that job > ED so priorities and what not. I'm not wholly convinced but the sex is good so ....

Great find everyone :)

I'll check it out in 15 hours, since as usual the chance for getting involved with the community goes live 4am on a day I work 9am-10pm...

I'd almost believe that if there wasn't a 3.5GB patch today.

At the site, some quick observations :

The drones are named "scavengers" - does this imply that they may not be related to this massive thing?

...

The structure looks like it's decomposing. There is a collapsed entrance on one side, made from a material that has the appearance of a half-rotted leaf.

...

The "teeth" along the arms seem very similar to the blades of the unknown ships. Excepts there's dozens and dozens of them, covering huge area.

...

There's a small vent, looking like a mini-barnacle that is emitting the weird wibbley-wobbly distortion seen on the UA's. There are unknown data links, shaped like the structure in miniature, that are surrounded by yellow fireflies.

Off now to find a UA and get in to the thing.

I'd say the scavengers have been sent from an active base, to get stuff from these inactive/derelict ones.

Thanks FD for giving us a new thing to farm.

Scavengers when killed drops unknown stuff so hurry up until they dry up, possibly they end up like barnacles.

There are two doors and two collapsed entrances. Getting into the central mound's top with the SRVs is difficult to a point where I suspect some invisible walls. I managed to get in but there is not much to see. Just one Unknown Uplink Device. Getting out is even harder and clearly subject to invisible walls.

Edit : First thing that comes to mind : This is the grown up form of the Barnacles. There are barnacle spires all around.

We need more aerial screenshots and interior shots. Investigate those arms around the basin, some of them looked particularly strange. The scavengers could be of a different race too, don't forget that possibility. Infighting is probable.
