Now, im even more convinced that the Thargoids are hatching the Barnacles, not harvesting...

Anyone? Take note..
Modified gather organisms are pretty standard tropes for sci fi, and Braben hinted at it during E3 so its pretty safe to say they are harvesting what they collect.

Anyways is there a list of commodities that have been tested around the scavengers?

Meta alloys, UA, UP, Biowaste, Hydrogen, Food Cartridges, Scrap.

But the way they move seems aimless. I think the 'core' has been killed by whoever attacked it.

Could this be the final stage of a barnacle? If it is an atmospheric processor/terraformer, this could be how it appears in it's late stage. Perhaps something catastrophically malfunctioned and they're salvaging whats left of the processor. The aerial shot of the barnacle is spiralized, very similarly to the aerial shot of the structure. Is the atmosphere hazy?

After kicking around the new site for the past 1/2 hour

Its a mature barnacle.... but its dead.

Which means whatever has grown in there is gone

Has anyone considered checking on the other barnacle site to see if anything has changed.....

And what the hell are those 'eggs'

Bill

PS Anyone else have scenes from "Aliens" playing in their head while exploring.... or is that just me

But wouldn't it make more sense to terraform planets with an already existing atmosphere? If Thargoids are ammonia based and need an ammonia atmosphere, that shouldn't be hard to do as many planets have a nitrogen and hydrogen rich atmosphere, which could easily be used to make ammonia. I find it hard to believe they would try and create an atmosphere on non-atmospheric planets or moons. I'm certain this structure is or was meant for something different. It's definitely an inactive/abandoned structure though because of the scavengers I guess.

Here's photos of all the data I've found so far. 8 in total at the moment.

Noticed the heart beat in the middle and the mention of an unknown liquid, so it could very well still have some life to it.

Edit: noticed someone beat me to it and has 9 scans. Ah well, worth mentioning the heart beat and liquid I suppose.

Great work to those who found the new site and everyone who has posted pics and videos documenting it. I enjoyed watching in on Discord, hopefully I can make it out there later this week.

I'm out at the site now, taking pictures and videos and just investigating. It's very organic looking, and quite massive. I've only gained entrance to two small cave-like areas in the main central body, so far. There are some vents in there that appear to be expelling vapor -- perhaps an atmosphere of some kind.

Ship? Or base?

Looks a bit more like a massive ship to me, but I'll hazard no guesses at this early stage.

I'll add my video to the mix once I have time to edit and upload.

And I'll be sticking around a while, to keep looking.

Another theory (sorry I just can't help but to speculate until I actually have time to research it): What if this is a crashlanded mothership? I saw a screen of the outskirts where there appears to be some exposed "metal" or chitin. Could this be a planet-seeding mothership? Or damaged to the point it was unable to prevent crashing into the surface. From the layout that I can see, and the general appearance of the structure, I'd have to go with my gut feeling that it is a mature (albeit deceased) barnacle. But something to think about!

(sorry Artigan99, I didn't see your post until after mine had posted). I'd rep you but I can't again, so +1 virtual rep

It dosen't. Sadly this site appears dead. Mycoid maybe? Most likely an old hive.

I agree - look around the circular areas outside of the centre, and it looks like ribs or some sort of head from something just as massive as the site that just died there and rotted away - leaving a clean metallic skeleton.

Hear hear. Same here - I'm still on my way to unlocking Martuuk and on the way am doing a couple of other engineers! That's what a year out does to your progress! Got my combat fit Conda up to 32LY now, though, so I'm reasonably happy.

I know it's been said, but my: that thing is large. Also, not convinced it's a mature barnacle: wouldn't make any sense why some barnacle locations have multiple in close proximity, if one of them turns into that hell-maw.

But who knows. It's certainly more than a bit unsettling.

I was going to ask, ironically, 'have you tried shooting it?'. And then I watched one of the videos. Those poor scavengers.

Watching Truthsayer's ship (Conda?) go all splodey after attempting to ram one of the doors was particularly amusing too.

'For science!!!' {boom}

You can see this thing from 40km up. It looks like a small crater with a spiral going around it. Holy smokes.

Theres also this which I have never seen elsewhere.
