Blocking feature being abused or was it intended to be this way? FDEV?

That won't help next time around if it's someone else, or if instancing fails as it sometimes does,

I'm actually legitimately offering advice based on what I would do.

Shields were 6A, plus a booster. The guy kept behind me despite my best efforts (including FA-Off) and I hit the FSD for high-wake the instant it cooled (and I'd submitted, so that was fast).

I always have a high-wake on speed dial in likely hot-spots, and I genuinely don't mind a fight if I'm at least vaguely on the same playing field. But I wasn't. Not even close. So, in this instance (no pun intended) I blocked the guy simply as a convenience. I needed to be in that system and didn't want the faff of him fly-swatting me again. I'll probably never 'git gud' (and Gods but I hate that phrase) but that doesn't mean I want to fly in an empty Galaxy, which PGs largely are. My defensive skills aren't that bad, but were completely not up the the task of fending off a 100% PvP build flown by a fly-swatter (no comms? No respect).

that's a way to put it, but there's another perspective: do you want an environment where your own ability is the sole rule for survival? you obviously don't, and that's fair, and it explains the attitude in these threads which is much on par with your avatar (which i'm loving btw): you guys got your way. it's just the way it is, and i'm fine with that.

other people however still have to come to that realization, however their expectations are still legitimate and it is uncalled for that you describe them as unfair to you. ed is just not that type of game, so the *real* crux of this issue is very simple: false advertising.

i would recommend op to ask for a refund, he has a strong case.

Well no, the OP can still absolutely play in an environment where his "own ability is the sole rule for survival". If the developer has also provided means for people to choose to play another way (as is being argued) and not forcing the OP to do so, they've delivered the game to him as promised.

Why do you think it's OK to call those who initiate non-consensual PvP pillocks (and other various derogatories)?

I see that quite a lot in-game as well.

Some people can't seem to remember which buttons to steer with, but they sure can fling insults from the text box.
Pillock coming from me isn't meant as a derogatory beyond the point that people behave badly from time to time. As I do, and I myself can be quite the pillock at time.

So at most I'm putting them on par with myself in different situations.

The fact the function doesn't exist. If you're going to bash a game, than make sure you know how the mechanics work.

It exists from the main menu, does it not? Search for a username, block them?

Actually, it was about surviving "in a cutthroat galaxy" where players can "just hunt other CMDRs":

Sorry, just where does it say you can hunt every player regardless of what they want? More hyperbole.

Choosing playstyle =/= choosing outcome. Choosing how you play, yes - but blazing your own trail was never meant to imply "you get to disable risk".

Nor does it give you the right to demand to be that risk. Players need risk, but they don't need you to be that risk.

Antisocial is subjective.

Quite. I am your content, and you are mine. I avoid you (not just you of course), and you try to find me. It adds a little thrill compared to playing Solo (or mobius). It's not for everyone though. Sometimes I'm not up for it & just play solo, I guess you aren't always up for a fight either.

By the way, during Community Goals this is working as advertised.

I know people love to quote from the Frontier page, and so will I :)

Sorry, but where did I say this is about being able to hunt every player?

Your whine for the day appears to be that you can't hunt every player because some of them block you... so.... :)

In fact at one point you were implying that "everyone" would do so and you would be "lonely".

In fairness your quote (and the website) aren't especially specific.

Personally I think it would be better if the motive for hunting another Commander was a bit more involved than just "hey look, a hollow rectangle. Let's kill it".

#not your content

You play in an antisocial way expect to be banned by folks.

You miss the point.

You should not have the power to block whoever from instancing with you in OPEN (no matter what they do). Sure, you can block communication, but not more.

FDev allowing this was a mistake from the start.

Edit: otherwise we can rename "OPEN" to "Mostly OPEN with a blocklist".

Really? Why not? FDev put that function in because that's exactly what they DID want players to be able to do. I think what you mean is that YOU don't want players to be able to block YOU. Everybody else however, including FDev, wants to have the choice of playing with you or not.
