I think the Unknown Link is just that, Its links the Data from the UA's and the UP's.
It means that you have to have all 3 to be able to get the full picture.

Hmmm mine seems to re-align in roughly the same direction after a good thump but I just can't figure out where it is pointing, all the good stuff I target is either too far away of permit locked and I can't even select it :S

On right map 2nd planet may have rings. Someone else see line throughout 2nd planet?
Having looked at this image, and having read other's take on it, here's my theory, which is similar to what I've been reading:
The picture represents the 3 stages of exploration of the galaxy.
1) One probe type is responsible for body discovery - the ADS if you like
2) Another probe is responsible for Detailed Surface Scanning - the DSS
3) The 3rd probe is responsible for sending that data back
The top and bottom circles with the seeming LAT/LON lines, represent the same planet - i.e. judging by the depiction of the flowerships - the Thargoid's home planet.
So overall, the picture tells the story of 1) Sending the three probes out, 2) and recieving the data back from the probes.
We explorers do similar, except we send ourselves out in our ships, and we follow more or less the exact same sequence...
1) ADS honk
2) DSS
3) "Send" the data to Universal Cartographics (by selling them the data)
I think that's all this is - just a depiction of galaxy exploration.
Now, there is that additional centre point on the top and bottom planets - either that means it's just a representation of the probes being sent out and data coming back to the Thargoid home world, or it could be saying the probes are being sent out from these newly-discovered big bases, and the data is being returned to those bases - and from this data you get the resultant Thargoid version of a galaxy map.
My 2-pence worth, but I think it's as simple as that - the equivalent of our Voyager gold disks - design 'em to make it as simple as we think we can make it to help an alien intelligence understand what's on the disk.
I have my doubts that anything on that spectrograph represents pointers to somewhere in the galaxy. Maybe I'm wrong though - time will tell
Yeah this is how the Thargoids explore and it possibly they protect that exploration data by having seperate roles and only the UL can link the information together and transmit this information back to those that need the Information.
The Stellarium map is interesting. there may be more to do within this map and we may get it to point to something more definitive

Is the 3rd column of the UP table important (and if it is - what is it?). Not done any UP searching before, apologies if dumb question:

has anyone confirmed what the right hand system is in the spectro?
Also, on the point of this being like the gold disc on voyager and such, we used our position relative to pulsars to show where we are in the galaxy, along with that we express time measurement in regards to a hydrogen atom as we assumed that any spacefaring race would have to have an excellent grasp of atoms and such to be able to make it thus far. Also on the cover, vertical and horizontal dashes are used to represent binary to tell how fast the record should spin.

The UL appears to be able to perform long range transmission, without the need for relaying. If we can find a way to reverse any signal it's emitting we might be able to find a general whereabouts of the receiving station. We need to try dropping it into local space and see if it turns anywhere.
I think the spectrogram only shows moons you can land on.
Seeing as how the original Spectrogram is supposed to be a Key. Has anyone tried applying the image to the new spectrogram.
Also has anyone put the UP, UL and or UA as needed together to record the combined spectrogram. Perhaps both together will point out something new.

Let's go on. Does 2nd planet have rings or don't have rings it's don't change anything until we see Col 70 Sector FY-N c21-3.
Just for clarity I was not suggesting they both point at the same thing. The UP seems to be using a system in COL 70 as a reference for its data, I was wondering if it (UL) points at that seeings as how the middle of the UL seems to face towards/away from that general area for me
From what I have seen with mine the UL does not point at Merope along any axis.

The Unknown Link seems to transmit to 2 focal points, The Caves and what looks like the Thargoid homeworld Maybe ?? The UA's point to Barnacles in Merope ( food/ energy ) . Up's point to Unknown location.
The UL's appear to be coordinating the UA's and UP's.
This means that right now the key is the Map on the right as its something we have not found yet.
If we use Octal Binary to get the 1.2.3 from the symbols. Then stage 1 appears to be collect from Barnacles. Stage 2 seems to be Collect stuff from the Caves sites ( Scavengers collecting rescourcses ) and stage 3 will then relate to the system on the map on the right.
So we have experienced stage 1 and 2, so we now wait for stage 3.
