My friend is getting ED tonight and id love to get my hands on a multi crew capable ship before hand so i can show him the ropes. Any suggestions?
Cobra mk3 is a great starter ship that will seat 2.

Yes. Yes it does.
If you save up for a turret on the medium hard point they will even have something to do.
Cobra Mk3 is superior in every way, fire power, and one of the fastest ships in game in standard fit. The money is small, and making credits is easy, just hang out in a res site tagging pirates with the cops. You`ll have a few million in a hour or so.

Anyone know if we can switch seats to let him drive? It would be awfully inconvenient to be teaching him everything without him actually trying things out.

No. The owner of the ship remains the pilot. People joining the multi-crew take up the ship's additional seats.
Resource Extraction Site. Located in asteroid belts or mineral rich planetary rings I believe. Their locations should be marked in a system map if they exist.
Res site is a resource site, usually in planetary rings. You`ll have miners mining asteroids that attract pirates that you kill for bounties. They`ll appear as low, high and hazardous res on your left nav panel when in system. The haz res have no cops, so you`re on your own, the others will have cops. Just wait till the cops start attacking a pirate and then tag them with your own weapons to get the kill as well. JUST make sure you scan them first and they come up WANTED, fire before that and you will become wanted yourself and be killed by the cops. Its easy, you`ll get the hang of it. Equipping an KWS Kill warrant scanner will get you more bounties for each kill.

Well jeez that sucks.... How am i suppose to teach him to do everything?
He gives you an extra pip in your systems and also gets a share of all profits, rep and bounties earned, He can operate turrets and utilities, or ship launched fighter on the bigger ships. Watch some Obsidian Ant videos on youtube.
Multicrew needs fleshing out, its in the works.
A side winder and a roll of duck tape and a couple of Snickers Bars. As long as their in a space suit, hanging on like a spider shouldn't be a problem, if so, more increase the number of Snickers Bars and duct tape.

Well there are tutorial missions... he can do them for the experience, watch you via multi-crew to see how to apply what he learned to the real game, then play himself with more expertise than most players starting out.
