Star Citizen Thread v6

Wasn't that a bit drastic? Some very interesting posts (Company House info regarding F42 shareholders) went missing ...
Thread reopened.

Discuss the game.
Hopefully that clears it up for you.
I still think they will release something called 3.0 around Gamescom...
It will be a disaster for them if they don't. They could refuse to attend which would be even worse. So I would guess they will show something but how polished it will be is anyone's guess.

Well, thanks to T.J.'s editing (deleting) some I was finally able to catch up on this thread .... And what do I think about the release of 3.0? Well it doesn't really matter does it .... My wife and I (she humors me) went to see Transformers: The Last knight today. I had heard rumors of it being the final one. Well wouldn't you know it .... at the end of the movie .... Well you'll see .... but it's sort of like the release of SC ... A hook just in case ...

So I was watching that video of Chris Roberts trying and failing to play his own game for 19 minutes.

I think the time that Roberts and others at the top thought this game was going to come out and be awesome continued well after Dr Smart began his crusade. It's possible he still thinks this but I doubt it very much (that Star Marine thing in early 2016 makes it look like he was trying to dodge a bullet while keeping his dignity, never mind that it didn't work). In that livestream at the end of 2015 someone thought "hey, let's get Chris to play the game! That'll be cool!" and, to their marginal credit, it clearly didn't occur to them to stage this through a setpiece like they did in later events.

Someone thought they would have Chris play the game, a buggy game where everything is constantly breaking, live, and they didn't do their utmost to make sure it would go without a hitch. There were joystick issues and everything. Someone thought it would work! Someone actually believed that and obviously at least Chris did too because he's such a control freak (if he hadn't believed it would work he would have vetoed it). Instead all that happened was that Roberts was all thumb, sic, when trying to play his game.

Mr Gabriel puts what goes wrong so well:

12.34 onwards is excellent, you get Chris smuggly giggling at one of his overly long animation sequences, then he looks like an old uncle at the controls, a guy tries to salute him but his character animation breaks then chris says his own chat system is 'awkward' while the other dudes spaceship wobbles around and floats off in the background lol. then chris accidentally crashes into said ship because he sucks at his own game and knocks it into space

I know I said I don't think they believe the game will be awesome anymore, but I wonder if part of it still remains. There's something about Ortwin's bizarrely self-confident reply (complete with a prohibited claim of partnership, although there is that awful word 'unthinkable' to sully the tone) and Erin's bizarre raise, exchange rates notwithstanding, that just add this sublayer of surreality. It's like they're running out of money but they still think that as long as they can hang on a bit longer they're going to actually deliver on all their promises on some deep level. This is why by all accounts Roberts still hasn't reined himself in on this unapproval business he's got going. He's still consciously incompetent because his unconscious incompetence hasn't revealed the fact that there's something going wrong!

I can't comprehend this lack of awareness, which is why in the past I just assumed they had to be aware. Is it possible this soft-scam they're running is accidental?

Been away from this thread and anything SC for a while now. By the looks of the last couple of pages, not much has changed.

Is there anything more since there being the two big stations in the PU? Any mechanics implemented such as cargo trade or exploration?

What all can you do at this point? (early April was the last time I checked on SC)

Biggest recent news is CIG took out a loan against their expected tax rebate from the UK government and put up their assets and IP (to the extent of Squadron 42 at least) as collateral

No new additions to the game since 2.6.3, but that's somewhat understandable as CIG is working on 3.0, which originally was supposed to release on July 30th, now delayed to the window of 4th-10th of August. At the very least it's supposed to have three landable moons, basic cargo transport mechanics, few static mission givers and some character customization.

Minor correction: it was originally supposed to release in late December 2016

Or June 30 if you go by the non-schedule

cam looks decent, a scene in the making for the making-of?
their concept is great: post pics that say 'people working on the game', you see a blurry, decontexualized image in the background of the software. cool

Yes, THIS.

So conclusion is:

1) initial promised release was total lies to get money from backers...

2) next deadline missed due unreasonable demands from CR ? just lack of talant ? just lack of experienced devs ?! or just engine can not handle SC...

Anyway I am very interested what content will v3.0 have and how it will run..maybe if its like always undelivered and semi-broken more people will start awake from dream...

Can I just inquire just why so many gamers think that what devs say about releases schedules are set in stone and any slippage is awful and lies? I'm not just referring to SC here, seen it with other games too. I'm talking as someone still hoping in vain for HL2 Ep3 and/or HL3!!! Now THAT's a wait!!

Also not white knighting SC either as I'm considering bailing my measly £23 out. But I know of very few games that are bug free (to be fair Elite has it's fair share of bugs and problems even now, some long standing), MANY are delayed and have day one issues. I mean this was an ambitious project to begin with and got bigger and more ambitions (clearly part of the problem) but that doesn't come without issues (read the earlier post with the Mass Effect Andromeda story).

I crowd funded the game Project Cars and it bit off more than it could chew and a LOT of cool stuff was dropped and some didn't work right and the game was delayed several times. Game development is hard even WITH a competent leader and clearly Chris is not quite in that calibre is he?!

Bottom line is those who "say" they want the game done and released, yet continue to stir are only going to hasten the seeming inevitability the game will never see the light of day and CiG implode. Who wins from that?.....no-one. So....why?

edit I mean I'm here because I'm "exploring" right now in Elite...been waiting a LONG time for the chronically bad placeholder exploration/scanning mechanic to be fleshed out.....I know FD have not mentioned a schedule or if it even exists, but it's still crap.

Back in 2014 Elite Dangerous was delayed by a few weeks but still hit it's December release window, Star Citizen was supposed to hit full release around the same time yet here we are halfway through 2017 and it's still in alpha (if you are feeling generous).

One of those is a perfectly normal delay, the other is stretching credulity way beyond breaking point.

They have to delay another 3 years because of uh... tax rebates... mumble mumble... currency exchange... Brexit... mumble mumble... SuperSubSumptuousness... Item System 3.1 for Workgroups... uh....

At least Squadron 42 is now longer than Berlin Alexanderplatz and Sandi plays three roles, four if you count the one with temporary tattoos and the funny accent. No, you can't see any of it because it would spoil the surprise of the funny voice. No other AAA game can match the scope of this ambition or her lack of natural acting ability. Bad things come to those who wait! Sign up today and join us in "the 'verse," because that's totally a thing. Honest.

There are only about 10 frequent posters in here and I would venture only about half of them are really into the "Everything CiG does is bad / immoral / shady". So it is a tiny subset of gamers in here, nothing statistically significant.
The only difference is that round here... something radiates... (oops sorry, sidetracked) I mean that posting here, is a relatively unbalanced experience. Nobody needs to preface a post with their good backer credentials to avoid the wrath of the mob :)
