Disappointed

I'm playing on a PS4 Pro.

The alarm kicked off when, upon starting the very first Training Mission, I noticed immediately (seconds into the game for the very first time) lighting took a while to properly pop-in. But the reason I'm most annoyed is that I'm seeing screen-tearing. On a PS4 Pro - and that's before I enabled quality settings.

Frontier: was it beyond all consideration to offer a 'v-sync' option for those of us who would rather not experience horrible screen-tearing? I don't mind 30fps if my visuals at least hold up to an uninterrupted view.

This just isn't good enough. You've had both the time and the money (and, one would hope, the good manners) to have sorted this kind of nonsense out long ago.

I hope you guys intend to support the PS4 version with regular patches - god knows in its present state it's going to need some love. That, or this port just withers and dies on the vine.

Right I want to say I am running Elite Dangerous on the old PS4 (Destiny console) with a old LCD Sony Bravia 40"TV and I get no screen tearing issues. The graphics look great to be honest for a console.

It was flagged on Saturday when a few people got copies of the game early and Frontier have responded to say that are looking into it. I'm sure it'll get a fix soon enough and they have said the platform will be supported with regular fixes as with the others.

Totally your right to be as annoyed as you like but IMO on mine at least it's not a game-breaking problem. I've been largely impressed by the way it plays/looks. I also think the screen/TV being used seems to effecting it a lot. On my standard PS4 and monitor setup I only properly noticed it in two circumstances when putting 4 hours into it last night (the training being one), and it was more like scan line/ripple than a full tear.

It does definitely need addressing though and I'm sure it will :)

Is screen-tearing only happening on PSPro? I'm on a regular PS4 and I never see it. Or at least I don't notice it. Here is a video I posted yesterday, can anyone show me where in this video screen-tearing happens? Eh, maybe it's best I don't know because then I might start noticing it!

People with vanilla PS4s have reported it too. It seems to be mostly though not exclusively associated with headlook.

I personally haven't noticed it.

Thanks for your reply. I'm happy to hear Frontier are aware of the screen-tearing issue - and I genuinely do experience the issue on a PS4 Pro (anyone doubting me, try going into camera mode and then free look whilst inside the cockpit - I was amazed that the screen started tearing). I just don't know how this kind of thing isn't picked-up and addressed prior to launch. Of course, a simple option to enable v-sync would have mitigated this issue completely.

This pretty much sums up the tearing issue for me, I run a Pro and its sat on quality settings and have only experience the tearing in one or two places in roughly 7-8 hours of play and certainly its not enough to be a distraction.
It's a minor issue that doesn't break the game and FDev are aware so sit tight and enjoy the game it will be patched soon enough. :D

Screen Tearing is most noticeable when a fast motion occurs, like rapidly rolling/pitching your ship or looking around your ship's cockpit with headlock on. Now, the quality of that video isn't the best (It's very pixelated and blurred), besides there's not much fast motion in it, you were either flying slowly or standing still. Nevertheless, i could still pin point a few examples of screen tearing, albeit nothing special.

If you try the examples i've mention above or simply engage in fast action combat, you'll notice it much more easily.
I'm sure FDev will adress this issue and fix it/tone it down in due time.

Cheers! :)

Not to be that guy, but its barely been 48 hrs. Im sure there is still much optimization to be done, I can definetely live with some screen tearing. I understand its an eyesore but its not gamebreaking?

Playing on quality seems to actually remove the tear and run pretty dam well! I might also not be overly noticing it either. VR would be insane but with the PS4 compatibility requirement I have doubts.

Interesting. I will try this tonight. My experience has been poor so far along with a bunch of people from this thread. Also, i get a terrible framerate drop and massive lag/delay when entering framejump.

I haven't experienced this yet. I'd say post it in the bugs section, post vids, and let the devs know if you're experiencing this issue on a regular basis.

I haven't got the game yet,so I can't try this out myself. On a Pro you can choose 'boost' in the computer settings.Which is a setting to boost old games for the pro, enhancing the graphics. Has anyone experimented with this setting? Maybe turning 'boost' on will help solve the issue.

Been on for most of today and not see any tearing even have a combat video of me in a sidewinder.
