Disappointed

I am extremely dissapointed by PS4 Pro performance as well.

Its not like the game is running poorly.. there is just something off..

When looking around or pitching rolling it seems like the screen is not in sync / screen tearing.. The Actual FPS feels lower than it is for some reason as well. on both modes that is!

I can't enjoy the game as is at the moment, i get a headache within 30 minutes.

Been on for most of today and not see any tearing even have a combat video of me in a sidewinder. https://youtu.be/TYpMnDAhvOg

Let me help you with that. :p

Sometimes more, sometimes less... but it's always noticeable.
The faster the motion, the more tearing you'll have. ;)

Frontier's Lloyd said they're looking into it and don't have anything to announce atm. You can submit a bug report.

Hi everyone,

Just letting you know that I have seen this thread and will raise the concerns people have mentioned. Unfortunately I don't have any further information on this to give you right now.

I had to fire up the xbox version tonight to finish up a delivery to the lave cg and was expecting it to look poor after playing on a pro the last few days, it didn't! not as sharp but just as smooth and with no tearing.

Hope fdev sort this asap! :(

The tearing was first revealed on Frontier's own YouTube Stream before the launch. It was really obvious then, and many assumed it was the capture card, but apparently it was the game.

Looks like they did manage to fix it to some degree on the final launch version, but looks like headlook is still an area where this is seen.

This has been a problem on PC on and off for a long time. It comes and goes from version to version. The display settings used on the PC version can make this problem worse or nearly undetectable. (Windowed, Borderless Windowed, FullScreen)

I'm hoping that the spotlight being shown on this issue with the PS4 version is finally the kick FDEV needs to sort this out once and for all.

As for the stutters/judder seen when dropping into a star system, entering Hyperspace/Jump, and dropping down to a Starport are also issues seen on PC for many players for a long time.

I'm running an overclocked 1080ti and I still see hitching for about 5 seconds after dropping into a station instance. Using headlook during this period also results in massive judder when looking around the cockpit.

I and many other PC version users have chalked this up to the Cobra Engine that runs the game needing more focused optimization. The fact that not all PC users notice this issue unfortunately muddies the waters in trying to get FDEV to seriously look into this.

Those of us with the latest hardware don't buy the accusation from those players that this has anything to do with our systems, simply because we don't see anything like this on far more demanding games like GTA 5 with all settings maxed.

I certainly appreciate all the replies from others here who have been able to demonstrate that what I claimed in my opening post is happening for many on PS4. It does seem to happen mostly in headlook view. I know there will always be those who claim 'nothing to see, everything's fine; move along', but I really think that does a disservice to those of us who genuinely see a real issue that could really do with fixing.

Good to hear several people say that Frontier are apparently aware of this issue. Hopefully a quick patch to fix the screen tear will appear soon.

I don't honestly see any when playing and I was flying around a ice belt earlier today and it was smooth. (Other than the random disconnects)

Maybe that kind of thing doesn't bother me though as long as I enjoy the gameplay I don't mind. After all you are trying to run a high quality game on a potato when compared to the PC I have sat in my study with the VR. The only thing I do notice is the distance popping on the PS4.

PS I just watched my video again on my PC and there is no screen tearing. Also paused it in the exact same spot as you did.

This is what I don't understand, on my crappy PC (Core i5-K2600 / GTX 570) SC drops to stations in Open are "instant" and I mean instant, I don't get hitching, waiting, it just drops out of SC (graphics on High setting).

On my PS4 Pro is just not as good, can be like 3-5 seconds (or it just stalls and sits there which has happened only twice).

They are both hardwired to a 75Mbps FTTH connection, on a Gigabit LAN.

I must admit though on my PS4 Pro I am still loving it, the positive does really outweigh the negative but the screen. Graphics wise the PS4 Pro is way superior to my PC.

I do notice the screen tearing and I do notice random glitches in space where sometimes he whole screen "flicks" but it does that on my PC too so figured its just "a thing".

I understand in general screen tearing is caused when vsync is off so the refresh rate is faster than the monitor allows.

From what I got there are specific servers handling communications to the clients for PS4 / PC / Xbox. These glitches have been seen on PC as well especially right after huge updates when a lot of players are actively playing open :).

2-3s is nothing, I had times where I hung in transition forever on PC :)
