Your Best Elite Dangerous Tips Wanted - Welcome the PS4 Players

Get away from the starter systems

If in Open, avoid hostile commanders by getting away from the starter systems as soon as you can. They gather at starter systems to pick off "noobs" like sharks at a seal feast. Don't linger

Most ED Cmdrs are friendly and helpful, however, as in many games, you will come across Cmdrs who like to kill other players. This is part of the game, so knowing how to escape them easily is useful at an early stage of your career.
If you are interdicted don't panic, submit to the interdiction by throttling right down (this allows your FSD to recharge faster), you then throttle back up and boost away from your attacker. Continue boosting until your FSD is charged then wake out of there. During this encounter I usually have four pips to engines and two pips to shields, although some other players balance their shields and engines differently. When you are new to the game, and have a small weaker ship, it is better not to engage in combat, more experience and ship upgrades may change your tactics over time. I know this all sounds complicated but it's quite simple really and once you master it it will consistently save your life. Stay safe and enjoy Cmdrs.

Traders: Dropping to sublight is your friend

If you're a trader, you're a big target for player pirates. If you think you're going to be interdicted, perform an emergency drop out of supercruise, and lay low in deep space for a few minutes.

It's much better to pay the cost of the hull damage caused by an emergency drop than it is to pay the rebuy cost of a destroyed ship.

Although I think you will still show up as a USS (Unidentified Signal Source), so learn how to engage Silent Running unless you want someone unfriendly dropping in. The upside is that you radiate less and are less visible to other ships still in Super Cruise. The downside is that your shields will be offline and your heat will start to build, so you can't use it for long.

You can't fly to another system in Supercruise, you need to use hyperspace jumps!

From the first (extremely busy) day of PS4 Fuel Rat rescues it's apparent that a lot of new commanders don't realise this.

You can't fly to another system in supercruise, you have to use hyperspace jumps!

(although respect has to go out to the guy who did manage to supercruise 2.1 million Ls!)

You cannot? Hmm, not that it's a very common thing to do anyway, but would've been nice (as there is a timer when approaching another system with supercruise).

Just imagine you are traveling for one month and then nothing happens :p

Dont be put off by this - the PDF is 75 pages and the page count is 147 (2 pages on each PDF page), not 200+ ;)
I am very sorry, IDK where the number came from besides my apparently troubled memory. I will check my printed version out of curiosity... Maybe that was X:R manual? Nah that was shorter... Anyway you're of course right and I will amend the post (and another one).

Put a little thought into things. Don't just rush rush around. Are there scoopable stars on your route? Should you pick up something from the commodities market before you make that big journey? Did you check the missions board for that juicy job you've been looking for? What about that module you constantly forget to upgrade? Is there I high-tech system on the way? Do you need to swap out a module or two before you go of mining?.....
Just take a couple of minutes to look around and have a think before you zoom into the black each time, and at the end say 'darn it, if I'd just done that thing I'd have saved myself forty minutes messing around. (I've done it so many times.
Really glad you PS4 guys are joining the party. The more the merrier. Enjoy.

In early game, rig for combat. Find an outpost with a blackmarket, and stick a couple of tonnes of gold in your trunk. Switch off report crimes. Fly in SC around the station and submit to NPC hyperdiction. If you think you can take them on, attack the NPC, targeting their cargo hatch. They'll drop their load before they burst. Hoover up their cargo, take it back to the outpost and sell it on the black market while picking up their bounties. Repair, refuel, reload, repeat.

Fast Travel using a Hauler

You can cut your travel time greatly by buying a Hauler, outfit it with a grade A FSD, fuel scoop, and grade D everything else. Use it to jump long distances (say from last week's community goal to this one's) and then go to the nearest shipyard and request your favorite ship to be sent to that station while you work/sleep. Then it is ready for you to use the next time you log in.

DOCKING PROTOCOL

Always remember to request docking permission when approaching any station or base. Failure to do so will generally result in a warning followed by the destruction of your vessel.

Classic NOOB error, don't try and engage someone using your ship in combat with either your landing gear, or cargo scoop down.
It is like trying to run with you underwear and trousers down by your ankles!

Buy a Cobra: As early as you can, it will be the best investment you can make and you can literally; do what you like with it.

Lotsa ships between the Sidey and the Cobra. No need to rush the guy.
True: But in the early days; ships can be a credit sink and a time sink. My advice is, reach your first million and reward yourself with a Cobra III, you will make three times the credits and have a dozen times the fun. Thing like eagles can come later, when you have those kind of credits to throw away.

This guy knows what he's talking about.

Use the tools

There are many, many web based tools out there that will greatly assist you if you want information about the game, from the prices of goods in various stations, to what each station sells in terms of ships and components, what stations sell rare goods, etc. You'd be wise to have a laptop or tablet next to you as you play on the PS4, so you can use them while you play.
