Assassination missions...

So I just wasted 40 minutes flying around in circles and investigating USS' to try and find this drop kick worth 900,000cr. He didn't spawn in that entire time.
I was in the correct system, it was scanned, I checked the Nav point and scanned that and then checked every USS that appeared. Nothing. Nothing in Supercruise either.

Anyone else having this experience?

It was a Pirate Lord assassination mission.

Presumably when you scanned the nav beacon the mission updated to give you a location where your target would be.

Did you go to that location, and were you close enough to the planet (within the million meters range rather than light seconds)? If so, the mission specific USS should have spawned, and your ship's computer would have announced it. There is no need to look at any other random USS.

If it didn't spawn, I'd bug report it. Pirate lords are normally very reliable... ;)

Yeah, the update was "He's in this system" ostensibly. They just said to check USS'.

Hmm, they must have changed things then. For quite some time, all assassination (and space salvage) missions have given a specific planetary body in the system where you will find your target.

If they have changed it, that is an extremely retrograde step IMO.

you don't need to scan the beacon, just honk the system when you arrive. update should get received with location. when you arrive at location always approach from the dark side, at 5mm stop and wait. they should spawn with in 5 min. never fails for me. though I haven't done one since update.

Hmm...these work for me.
Visit the system and honk. Fly to the planet and the blue mission signal source usually spawns rather quickly.

I did a salvage mission last night, that worked exactly as described above.

Arrived in system and honked. Mission updated with relevant body I flew there and waited, mission specific USS appeared.

Not done an assasination mission in over a year.

Investigating USS was a waste of time, these missions spawn unique blue signal sources.
Flying around in the system was also a waste of time, these signal sources only appear at specific planetary bodies.
Since I am on your ignore list writing this is also a waste of time. :(

Sage advice from someone who should be listened to.

Quoted for clarity.

Happened to me as well a week ago. It did spawn at first, but i was on my way to dock at a port to drop off some passengers. When i returned to SC (still well in the time interval) it didn't spawn anymore.

Don't look in the USS. They will automatically pop up, "mission signal detected" bright blue in colour. I do a lot of these and haven't had one fail yet. Also ignore the times, I go straight there and they always spawn.

Occasionally the target location will be a Star (either primary/secondary/tertiary) getting the USS's to spawn at that point can be tricky. If it's a planet then I have a 100% record of getting the Mission USS to spawn. If it's a star then that drops to around 25%. I'll give it 10 minutes. If nothing spawns then I'll just write it off as a bad mission and abandon.

Yeah that's what this was, secondary star 90,000ls from the primary. So it was already in my bad books...

I have those a few times. I'll quite happily fly to a planet 300k+ away, but if it's the Star then I won't bother. Under 10K and I'll try for the USS around a star, over it I'll just abandon then and there.

Completed two assassinations of deserters and failed to be in system during the "window" for the pirate lord, and got a mission update in my comms panel about that. I honked and searched but, it looks like I missed the pirate lord and will abandon it and get another one. I had stacked three, in three separate systems
If you are approaching the planet and see a USS, ignore that one, it should be blue and you should get an audio que.

Ninjaed...

I've done a few assassination missions, they all direct you to a particular planet, moon or star which is highlighted in the system map once you have either scanned the nav beacon, honked the system or met the contact.

There is always a mission specific USS, which have been fixed recently so they always show up fairly quickly. You can sometimes even meet your target in SC, at the nav beacon, or he will sometimes interdict you. Sometimes he brings friends.

I suspect that you have missed a step.

I've done a bunch too, I went through all the steps. The mission listed the secondry star as the body he could be found at, so that's where I went. Nothing spawned.
