A little part of me also wonders... we've seen that these salvagers are sucking bits out of the thargoid ships, and there's lots of them, and they leave the corroded surface.

Cast your mind back to the wrecked federal fleet. What if these scavengers are essentially "drones" launched from the mothership, and they essentially "swarmed" the capital ships and escorts? I'm certain they wouldn't have the targetting resolution in their weapons to hit things that small!

but they certainly seem to be cleaning/analysing the ?mycoid? virus from the structures outside.

Really frustrated that I once saw one cleaning from a short distance away, so you could properly see the beam coming out of it. But by the time I got the camera lined up it stopped and then they never went back to that position again :(

Were they already on the floor because others had constructed them or did they actually come out of the machine for you?

Came out of the machine. It was from the first room I went into, only 2 dropped down as the other one must have already been taken. The first time I visited the first active site, I went into my own PG to do some recording. I drove into the structure and went straight to the main room, dropped off the UA and UP and then went to get the UL. I've not actually had anything in my hold both times I've gone to get a UL.

They emit some light when you look at them in normal space

Well, seems too far away from bubble to be true.
But, if coordinate masks are right then we need to calculate
0.157 0.031 0.960

Someone posted yesterday that Aries Dark Region GW-W D1-55 matches the UD sonogram map
however results have been found using the Col 70 Sector system

You mean - like using that terminology in game for the Unknown Link description? Asking for a friend :)

The Unknown Link is a Thargoid object that can be found in a Thargoid Surface Site. It drops from the ceiling if you have an Unknown Artefact in the cargo bay of your SRV. It's necessary in order to activate the Thargoid machine inside a Surface Site.

From http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Unknown_Link

A Thargoid Surface Site is a sprawling Thargoid structure built on a planet's surface. The first site was discovered on June 26, 3303 on planet B 1 C of the HIP 19026 system. The function and purpose of these sites are currently unknown.

From http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Thargoid_Surface_Site

for a fun counter argument's sake i present this fully editable wikia that disputes your claim!

Okay then, I'll update my picture...

Just to mention, this week's CGs are up now - 4x BH and one trade CG, all in the bubble, nothing Thargoid-related this time. Palin may be busy anyhow, welding his cargo racks :)

Yo,

So, assuming they are Thargoid motherships wrecked by the Mycoid Virus, they are still trying to (auto?) repair themselves, and sending probes, signals, and more, to be found by their "parents" ;)

REMEMBER?
WHAT WE FOUGHT IN THE FIRST WAR WAS JUST A THARGOID SCOUTING PARTY, WE ARE LOOKING AT THEM NOW.
Imagine what will come to rescue them. And DB said THEY are very angry with the Federation... I may guess the reason why...

Just got new UL - had a UA but no UP (lost mine while back) - definitely do not need both, also dropped UA yesterday before getting links, but the UA may have been 'close enough'. You could experiment and report back with results.

It could possibly be far more ominous in that they are analysing the virus so that they can create an antidote and indeed a protection against it...

Nice, I just meant from a personal point of view for my photo collection ;)

Remember what I say: it ain't over until Michael Brookes sings.

That is all.

He told us at Lavecon he was heading out to Colonia. Nuff said!

Speculation...

The Thargoid star map has (as far as i can see) dots either green or white (or something similar colored). The map represents all the active (maybe green) and inactive (white) sites in milkyway. Anyway.. just brainstorming here... keep up the good work with the sites!

Do we know if these are abandoned Thargoid installations, or is it more likely they're crashed ships?

Because if they're ships then I'm wondering what (and who) did that to them. And more to the point, where are they now?

They are large wreck sites (the description of the UL etc says they are found at large wreck sites), therfore they are ships. They are damaged and the damage could be either (1) hostile aliens or (2) mycoid virus from the last war. My money is on the latter.

From one of the PSJ-17 logs picked up at a listening post that led to a dead site:

"Recon 2 reporting in survey of site complete. M particles level holding within expected parameters."

M particles = mycoid??

edit: Here's the PSJ-17 comms relating to the dead site. They were well aware what it was.
