It's OK, the Thargoids were coming anyway

I believe you entirely based totally utterly and soley on the fact you sounds completely stoned out of your head.

Mystery solved :).

ED have already said that WAR is coming.

So we need to identify their weaknesses and develop new weapons to FIGHT the Thargoids with.

Simple as that.

You must grind, grind, GRIND for the war!

Seriously though this is a pretty interesting theory, probably closer to what the devs have in mind than my own theory.

I've worked out what's happening with the Thargoids... I don't have the time to put it into words now but in short..

They were already here, acts of aggression will not change what was going to happen anyway... and it's going to happen soon.... Expect to find some huge holes in the ground...

I will try to put a video together to explain but I have limited time as I'm about to get on a plane...

Why a video? because it's only a spoiler if you watch

I came to the same conclusion today Master Nutter, based on a few hours reconnaissance in VR, at the latest (most complete structure).

It's startling how different they look in 3D... basically like a bl**** massive ship.

Can anyone do a quick written synopsis for those of us in work and unable to enjoy Nutter's dulcet tones?

The thargoids buried themselves to protect from the mycoid virus. Now they found a cure, they did set up the barnacles to gather the resources to repair the ships. The scavengers are actually removing the virus from the ship's hull and applying the meta alloys to repair them.

To be honest, you wore a very bit tinfoil hat there. It is plausible, however is just a model of what we have observed.

I always wondered about the term "technological plague" that was recurring in galnet about the time I graduated the pilots federation cadet programme and had my sidey, it struck me as too reminiscent of that virus we infected the goids with.

In all seriousness though, the idea strikes me as equally plausible and terrifying. 10KM ships? Dear Randomius we are in for a world of hurt. Especially if these things and their drones have Sarah Jane Avery's finest work in her most malovelent murderous milspec monstrous minions at the helm.

Cheers.

When humans infected the Thargoids with this virus that I can't write down without making a mistake, the Thargoid motherships made a controlled crash on to these planets, burying themselves into the soil in an attempt to figure out a cure for the virus underground. Well, they did at last, that's why scavengers are now "scraping" off the virus slowly but surely and plating these same parts with meta-alloys in order to restore the ships. I guess I forgot some small details but that's a rough summary.

But I want dulcet tones, har har :D

You're a gent, many thanks [up]

I've added subtitles to the video - The things I do for the communiteEE

Great video you put together there, and extremely difficult to counter your logic on this. So please accept a +1. [up]

Basically, if I paraphrase a summary of what Nutter is saying,
The Thargoid bases are actually the Thargoids themselves (or the ships of the Thargoids). They buried themselves in the ground in order to avoid the mycoid fungus that was used to defeat them in the previous Thargoid war. The little auto-bot ships are removing the mycoid fungus and replacing that with meta-alloys, eventually to allow the Thargoids to launch again in all their glory !

It's an interesting theory, well worth further consideration.

I am unclear about how two aspects fit into this:

1 The role and nature of the jelly ships that fly around. They don't appear to give anything back to the Thargoid 'bases.'

2 Why do the jelly ships match with the Galnet symbol? Where does GalNet fit into this?

Finally. This explains the sudden appearance of the sites. I couldn't quite place it.

But, perhaps this isn't all that's left of them. Their homeworld was far away, and we supposedly only fought their scouting forces. Maybe the ships that scan us came from there to investigate and decided to help repair and cure those who crash landed? That would explain their lack of hostility as they wouldn't quite know yet that we did it. Once they find out...or if they mistake us as having an association with the Guardians due to our interest in them and physiological similarities, it may cause war.

Galnet..... a galaxy wide news agency with seemingly unlimited resources and knowledge of all sorts of events and special circumstances... it's almost as if they've been doing this for a while... including dealing with the Thargoids.. starting to sound like Galnet is starting to sound more and more like the public face to Galcop which "went under" right about the time the Feds and Imps took over.... If someone had experience with the Thargoids it was them.

Someone else want the tinfoil roll?

Well done!
On the Front Page.

However:

So, assuming they are Thargoid motherships wrecked by the Mycoid Virus, they are still trying to (auto?) repair themselves, and sending probes, signals, and more, to be found by their "parents" ;)

REMEMBER?
WHAT WE FOUGHT IN THE FIRST WAR WAS JUST A THARGOID SCOUTING PARTY, WE ARE LOOKING AT THEM NOW.
Imagine what will come to rescue them. And DB said THEY are very angry with the Federation... I may guess the reason why...

;)
