Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 10 - The Canonn

I think this theory is brilliant, based on evidence, and should definitely be considered.

It would mean we are not searching for their home world in the first place. Possibly, there is no home world anymore at all. If I understand Nutter right, these motherships are remnants from the first Thargoid war where humanity didn't face their main force. That one was hit by the Mycoid virus and spiralled into the ground where it stayed until now. The scavengers are currently repairing the wrecked motherships with Meta-Alloys until they're ready to rise again. That would explain the barnacle "refuels", for example. It furthermore would explain the "green goo" corrosion visible on the hull and the Scavenger's behavior, in fact, their very presence at the sites at all. Meanwhile, Thargons bringing MAs from the barnacles to the crash sites for repair and so on. It would also explain why the wrecks seem to be so old and why all of them seem to have crashed at roughly the same time.

Leaves the question how they plan to lift up again, as I see it, they're buried flat on their face. Luckily, the main force was stopped in the Pleiades, so the bubble is safe. For now :)

TBH, I would say its a plausible hypothesis. There are many possible explanation to what we know and observe, and this is just one of them.
EVEN if it came to be true, still doesn't explain the biggest mistery of all: Why do the Thargoids use morse code?

Before anyone says "dude, this is a game", remember that David Braben wanted to make the aliens "truly aliens". If he keeps his word, there must be an explanation on why they use this human language.

Thanks Wace ! Great work you have done 07
So now we need recordings from 6 and 7 site ? Anyone already doing that or i should go ?

I Did:
I have the Audio recording from the Narrow Beam of the Message from Site 6 that responds in Site 7:

https://mega.nz/#!i0k2iAoJ!MFCRFbXNB...5ws0tCS4ysRC70

So its Audio from Site 6: MEL 22 SECTOR ZU-P C5-1 4 A | -63.5 8.02
Message 2
That points to Site 7: Mel 22 Sector NX-U D2-27 5 A | -39.8 -56.2

So in the Audio should be the Info for System 7

Edit: If we can match the Code in the Beam to the System we should be able to find any system with ease

From what the lore says, Mycoid only impacted their Hyperdrive and Exoskeleton, it never said it hit the engines and sent them plummeting onto a planet.

Argumentum ex silentio - non liquet IMHO. The fact only the hyperdrives where harmed doesn't mean the rest stayed intact. And as the ships are organic, it is quite possible they consist of similar materials as the Thargoids themselves.

Wild guessing: MetaDrive worked on Thargoid hyperdrive technology, found at Col 70 (or where was it?) or at one of the wrecks.

hi! im the dude who found the bhadaba relay, i've found jack but i think it may be worth activating the link over it, just to see if there's a base there

Welcome to the forums. Not sure that that relay is, but hopefully the others here will know :)

Yeah, yeah, yeah - see link in sig, yes, I call them wreckage sites ;)

(Also see Rizal's FP quickly, while he's feeding the children in the 30 minutes off we allow him)

I was expecting a little more enthusiasm, you must be flagging. You need caffeine stat!

Through the demands of RL i am a total forum stalker right now and getting little time in game.

I love you guys for the excitement and renewed wonder you are providing me once more in this magnificent "Threadnought".

I love the renewed commitment, creativity, natural organisation and the tinfoil science that you guys all do, be you"Canonn" or not. Keep it up and know that everything posted here is being assimilated and chewed over by hundreds of collaborators. You are what makes this game the best thing to happen since 1984. Keep up the great work, you are keeping me interested and excited about the "Wonders of Elite".

These new discoveries and the methods, recording and sharing of information is just astounding. I hope to follow in your footsteps, or rocket trails, in the next few days!

Right on Canonn!

If i lose my FTL capability and get stranded in a barren system, I'd look for a nice place to rest until someone could rescue me... the whole species was confined to drydocks without a cure (retconned in this way by FD, if i remember it well). So, the grounded ships fell apart and now the immunized descendants have come back and the scavengers are recycling them in more scavengers (used also as weapons against Federal ships, in my opinion) and Thargons, aka flower ships.

Yes, possibly. It's just a hypothesis, but I find it to be a consistent explanation based on evidence we found this week. One question, for example, that riddles me is the fact we find that many sites, all more or less looking the same - a huge Thargoid mothership buried into the ground. Consistently, but spread all over the same region in space. There must be a common factor that caused that IMHO. Could be a virus infection, hive mind failure or even a Y3K bug in their internals. But this one wouldn't be surprised if Nutter's hypothesis is correct in the end.

OOOoooohhh. I think I just had a revelation based on this discussion...

Things we know:
* UA and UP points to Merope
* We know that the UP has distance from Col 70
* We know the UPs are found near ammonia worlds
* We know the located wrecks / bases so far have (all or most) been located near ammonia worlds
* UP either receives or transmits from / to Merope
* UP contains details about planets (atmosphere, etc.) and distance data from Col 70 and are found near ammonia worlds
* UAs contain scan details from nearby planets objects
* ULs are built from UA + UP

Possible conclusions:

* UAs purpose is general search for suitable planetary bodies
* UPs purpose is detailed data from ammonia bodies and their distance from Col 70
* Resulting data from UAs / UPs is transmitted somewhere (Merope? Col 70? wreck / base?)
* For suitable planetary bodies (or whatever exactly they're looking for, ammonia worlds?) the good UAs and UPs are combined to form a UL at the wreck / base sites.
* The UL is encoded with location data for suitable systems (for colonization? location of reactivated sites? )

* Thargoid ships use the ULs to navigate or send ??? to those sites. Setup / reactivate the base / wreck sites. Those sites are used for more expansion.

Others:
* If both UA and UP transmit scout data to Merope - could the binary 123 in the middle of the spectragram also depict transmission from Merope to Col 70? Perhaps Merope is a relay station?
* Purpose of the sites / wrecks we've been finding would be to collect UAs with good data, or produce UAs (perhaps explaining high UA spawn rate in orbit), combine with suitable UPs
* The thargoid ship sightings at the base / wreck sites. Could this be the thargoid ships picking up newly produce ULs through the top opening, in order to navigate to new locations encoded in the UL???

Edit:
TL;DR: Theory: UAs / UPs are probes to find suitable systems > UA + UP = UL with coordinates for suitable system > thargoids using ULs to expand to additional systems / navigation. Wrecks / sites are used by thargoids to build ULs with coordinates for suitable new bases.

Edit 2: If these sites are "wrecks" of thargoid ships... Perhaps new ships are loaded with a UL, instructed to fly to the UL encoded location, and what we're seeing is the partial end-state of those ships landing on the planet, the navigation room with the functionality to build ULs for navigation from suitable UA and UP components still there - matches with the star map that shows up.
