Frontier is looking at options on custom HUD colours for consoles

I am not arguing or asking for charity. I am stating that others will. I am happy with what you have said is likely to happen.

Edit: Spending a lot on a rig is personal choice. You can get the console quality settings for a decent price, but that extra money does indeed earn better graphics and dare I say a bit of consideration in situations like this. If they develop a solution and charge for it, they better not find a way to force it on PC. That would anger me, even as a console player.

Edit again: Also, forgot to apologize if my posts seemed to be arguing for charity or anything. Didn't mean to come across in that way. Lol

If they create an RBG slider that you can use in the cockpit without mucking about with ini files, I'm sure most people who play with their HUD color settings would pay money for that functionality. Especially if it came with toggle settings for different lighting situations (day/night etc)

It would be nice if each ship had a characteristic HUD color and maybe a slightly different layout, as well as different ship voice. I know VA has different voices but I don't use it.

Happy days...HUD colours and the ability to change them are one the things I miss about pc after I moved to console on this game. I have a very rich, deep purple on my pc account and the same boring, bland monotone standard colour on the bone.

Now this is the first bit of good news from this place since frontier came down on the cheats last week...see now listen up FD, the way to a gamers heart is through what they see almost the entire time. So in light of this, I demand frontier takes my money right now...we can discuss the "Powered by fairy dust" stickers next week...and fluffy dice cos those bobblehead things are boring ^

Yeah, I think with the right price, it would be fine. With functionality like that, it would definitely be worth my money and I've heard other voices agree with that sentiment.

Your HUD is not associated with any given ship. It is a result of the computer you transfer around with. Otherwise, you'd have to reconfigure your control scheme with every ship change. The HUD is a hologram projected by your comouter.

Looking at options? You've ignored the millions of requests for HUD customization for 2 and a half years.... Can we get more info on when this will be coming?

No they have not ignored the requests. Not at all.
They have always said that they wanted to do this, but that it was not high priority.
Perhaps now they decided the time has come to put some time and energy into this.

As far as I am concerned it still should not be high priority.

Personally - if they give consoles the same option as the PC they are missing the trick.

What should really happen is each ship manufacturer should have their own colour scheme - not dissimilar to car manufacturers.

This would help create more differentiation between different ships.

Obviously I accept they need an "overall override" (i) for parity with the PC edit and (ii) for the colour challenged players.

Which means ever ship looks same when flying. If every ship or ship manufacturer had their own Hud it would bring a lot more variety to the game. More variety is always better. Its the small details that ads and build the feel for different ships and the game.

I think the HUD design would be a good way to get a unique look. But making this based on HUD color defaults with no way to change it from the cockpit would play havoc with people who use ini settings. They would have to restart the game and muck about with their ini file every time they switched ships!!

Looking back at Frontier's history, i would predict that they will give consoles players the ability to select color profiles from game menu for free, and pc players stay with what they have because of.. technical limitations or something lol.

Just because you didn't read it, it doesn't mean they didn't write it. ;)
They always said that they are looking into options for HUD customisation. They just never said if or when it really happens.

How would that be related to Frontier's history?

I just gotta say that ye really dont know very much about console gaming if ye genuinely believe that. If its even remotely possible to sell a game item, skin, badge, gun, paint, avatar, literally anything they can attach a price onto basically, then rest assured, capitalism is very much alive and kicking in console world.

Worst about it being that even the rubbish will cost ye dearly and what is genuinely good is rare as hens teeth and almost never free. Fer some, actually buying the game is merely the beginning of their tumble down the rabbit hole of console shopping. Everything has a price ^

They have a history of delivering (or not) very simple things in a very twisted way. Next you re gonna ask me for example or a source or a link right? And after that you ll say something like 'welcome to my ignore list'.

I know the drill of fanboism.

You are probably right. Personal opinion is that is kinda lame if they implement that because of consoles, while pc users are asking this for ages.
I m happy that i found a white collor profile and i use it for more than a year. The orange is killing my eyes.

Agreed...I even think its possibly a moot point because it almost certainly would be anyway. In respect of the shop, its almost identical in content and every time its not, someone always spits the dummy out and creates merry hell on the forums anyway. They have a point actually even though it looks funnier than it sounds...no matter what platform they play on ^

Yeah having to alter the config file every update is kinda ridiculous.

Editing the config file is not officially supported.
We were given the option to alter HUD colours by editing the file as a courtesy by FD. I think that was very nice.
They did this because we discussed this and asked for a colour option on the forums.

FD said they want to implement a better and more robust way to change HUD colours, but for this to be possible they will have to make some fundamental changes to the way colours are handled in the HUD. For the time being they felt this should not be a high priority. I tend to agree.

I'd quite happily pay for HUD colour schemes on the PC version.

I've never been a fan of the edited files method, it messes up other things too much.

I'd like to think they'd leave in the file editing option for those happy with it, but I'd also understand if it was removed.

If editing the files could be done flawlessly with zero side effects, then I'd be against being charged for something I could do myself.

Yeah. I think the basic default HUD should be free with some color options in the graphics menu. The fancy new HUDs (minimalist etc) can be sold for a small fee.
