Definitely need more Material/Data storage.

I've just had to clear out a load of crap just to make room for the new alien structure data and materials. Lol

It has no purpose (yet) but it likely will be needed for engineering our bug zappers soon™.

But now I'm maxed out, and I ditched most of my grade 1 materials and data. Which basically means I can't rearm much now. :p
Nor can I do much engineering without ditching other rare materials or data.
The constant warnings about being full are annoying.

At this point, I'd gladly pay real money for double storage. :D

I don't like to complain. But I am. :p

Maybe there could be new module potential like a recycler (similar principles to a refinery) and data storage banks.

1. Recycler module can sort materials into ton bundles. Either as one type of material or as mixed so becomes scrap. Even could sort the scrap into grades, that could be traded.
2. Data bank module could store extra data but the down side is it can be lost when destroyed.

This problem with not enough material storage is compounded when you see threads where players are finding that material rewards are broken yet again. So EFCs and biotech conductors are again impossible to get. Too bad if you've just thrown them all away again because they briefly became far too common.

Now they've also added a bunch of other mats that are currently useless. So, are we supposed to throw more useful stuff away in the hope that this junk might someday become useful?

If we had a hint how precise is the resource to us (how much of this stuff we've got so far) at the time of collecting, we could simply keep 20 of anything and won't pick everything. 1000 was good so far for me, I'm often spending at engineers and never had the problem with the limit. Except I had to repeatedly throw the common stuff over 30 away.

Let's pray FD implement the limit per material instead of global soon, like Sandro Sammarco hinted at a few weeks ago. And let's pray twice as hard that it won't be 10 per material, but at least 30 and 50 for materials that serve both for engineering and synthesis.

I really hope this is coming soon™!

Luckily, I've got other things to do in Elite right now, so my lack of storage isn't an issue until I need to start engineering again.

Just sayin' the Science & Research Contact that is coming in 2.4 will almost certainly be a place where you can trade materials & data-at a reasonable exchange rate!

I so hope you are right. Hopefully it's not just selling stuff, but also being able to trade up a couple of grade 4s for a 5.

But just the rumor of this is making me hesitant to discard anything above grade 3..

Sandro very clearly said that they wanted a Brokerage, not a Market....so selling will be highly unlikely. Everything he has said on the subject points to trading of Mats & Data, & lower quality in exchange for higher quality. The "Science & Research" Contact we saw in the preview screens has been around since 2.2.....but was restricted to Community Goals revolving around Mats and/or Data. So it all kind of fits.

It certainly does fit. I was worried when I first saw the menu screen examples for 2.4, as there was no materials broker. But if it's the research dude, then all is well.

Dom's clarification that basic conductors, crystal shards, heat resistant ceramics, tempered alloys and unidentified scan archives are completely useless and are being removed from mission rewards is a start.

I might have to have a serious purge of my lower grade mats.

Ooh, cool!

Do you know of a definite list of useless mats? I need a purge too, but not of anything useful. Lol

Not including the new alien site ones.

Here is the list from the man himself, Commander!

Hi all,

Yes, this is bugged again.

I know what is wrong and am working to get it back to working condition as soon as possible.

As a bonus, I'll see to getting Basic Conductors, Crystal Shards, Tempered Alloys, Heat Resistant Ceramics, and Unidentified Scan Archives removed from the reward choices (these are no longer used in any recipes and I already have clearance to remove them).

I'll also ask about making MEF a mission reward (I don't think it will be a problem, but haven't got clearance yet so no guarantees).

Thanks,
Dom

Why not allow storage space to be rented for credits at stations etc. for materials and data you wish to store/hoard for future upgrades and endeavours?

Why have silly limits on something that already doesn't make sense if you want to keep it 'immersive'. Why can I store 500 'units' of data that stay with me no matter what but not 1000 or more?

Here is exactly the reason why I want more material storage.

Basic conductors were completely useless, yet annoyingly common as mission rewards. Dom removed them because they were useless, then another Dev went and made them part of a synthesis recipe.

I know I'm not the only player who threw away all his basic conductors when Dom said they were officially useless, as I need the room. Boy do I feel silly now.

If you have not caught on. Fdev's design is all about leaving the player' screwed. It is not until large droves of the community stop playing and complain that they will decide to make an improvement.

Lets give them too many mats and data than they can actually store and then shove it down their throats. Now lets lie and mislead the community. Tee hee.

If you are wondering why I am so glib and to the point. I have spent my entire day board hopping looking to get missions for exquisite crystals because the new board design has made board swapping even more necessary. So probably about 100 board swaps before I find a mission. Get tired and take a break. Watch youtube or forum browse while I give the pos bbs a break. Yeah. I'm annoyed. Considering I should play a different game since I can not play this one until I get the stupid missions.
