HOTAS4

How to use it? TY

Plug it in then turn on the PS4 with the on/off button on the console.

Then make sure when you play the game you are using the Horizon Sidewinder. Go through the first training mission to confirm everything is working.

Do not start the PS4 with the Dualshock 4 controller...

If you have a previous saved game, delete it and start over.

Feel free to start the PS4 with the controller, just launch the game using X on the HOTAS.
After starting, the first time before playing, go to options and either select or confirm the controller configuration is set for the HOTAS 4 and not default.

Also, no need to delete any saves.

Lots of incorrect here, sorry.

You can start the PS4 with the DS4 controller, it doesn't affect how the game sees the HOTAS4.
You will not need to delete your previous save.
You do not need Horizons.

What you *do* need to do is start the game using the HOTAS4 instead of the DS4, that way the game will recognise your HOTAS and you will be able to play using it once you have set it up in the Options -> Controllers menu. (you may been to re-start the game after setting up the controller in the menu, I've not tried both paths for that yet)

Do we know if any changes made to the hotas bindings effect your regular ds4 bindings yet? My hotas is still sat in its box lol

As the HOTAS has its own bindings, the answer should be No. There are three binding sets in the menu, two for the DS4 and one for the HOTAS, making changes to one shouldn't cause any changes to the other two.

Just a little side note, It makes a difference but in the ps4 setting one can atler the buttons. If one has done so, prior to playing make sure the check mark is unchecked. One doesn't have to change the settings to normal, just uncheck the box if you have changed any of the button via the ps4 settings. If for example one has reassigned a "X" to an "R1" for whatever reason, when ED fires up, and one deceides to use its setting to change the "x" again, the control will have a tissy fit, tring to figure out which of the two settings it's supposed to utilize as something else. When switching games, remember to go into ps4 setting and insert the check mark giving the control new commands.

ALWAYS start what ever game your playing with the controler you plan to utilize first. When I start ED, my hotas and ds4 are both plugged in, I start the game with my hotas, the ds4 capabilities are reduced to the scratch pad, and ear phone and if you have it, the text attachment for the ds4. Though I don't use the ds4 at all, so I have it shut off and removed.

For me it didnot work unless the DS4 was off. But perhaps I just needed to start the game with the HOTAS4.

Also I think Horizions is needed for surface landings. Correct???? It seems you also will get the correct start missions. But of course this may be wrong. It is just what it seemed like to me.

For planetary landings, yes, I was saying you don't need Horizons to use the HOTAS :)

Fair enough. However I was having huge problems trying to make it work. What I posted is what it took to make it work for me. Apologies if it was wrong. For me it works, and the game is awesome. By far the most spectacular game for the PS3 or PS4. No contest...

Yes, turn on hotas not ds4.
Hotas use is not mandatory for flight nor land.
