Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 10 - The Canonn

Hi all
running after the unknows devices, was thinking:
can the aliens symbols be numbers ?
something like :

--- = 1
|-- = 2
||- = 3
|-| = 4
||| = 5
-|| = 6
-|- = 7
--| = 8

three "bit" given 8 interactions, perfect fit for octal maths
order should not be good, and dont know if someone else had the idea before, but...

Just because it was something utterly fascinating that I learnt a couple weeks back - it turns out fungi have also evolved to act as messengers between trees - connecting root systems to root systems, allowing trees to exchange nutrients and even information about disease and other threats.

So, yeah: fungi are properly amazing organisms, and plastic or metal-eating is entirely possible.

Unable to rep further please accept goodwill instead.

Didn't we discover fungi that degrade plastics years ago? (edit - Yup : Pestalotiopsis Microspora)

And we have known about insect zombifying mind (ok, exaggeration more like body) controlling fungi for a long time too.

Follow the breadcrumbs...when watching this cool project that marks the sites and their states on a 3D map

https://map.canonn.technology/us/

I noted the following: there's an area of 4 inactive sites (one dot is white today, used to be red yesterday) that seem to me to be more or less on the same plane. There furthermore is a cluster of active sites "below" it and 2 red dots in between. If we assume the inactive sites are those on the frontline and the active sites are not affected by whatever that much, could we make a rough estimation about where this armada originally came from, drawing a line from the "inactive plane" to the green cluster?

Yo,
[noob]

FWIW, if you draw a line from one of the inactive bases in the top 3 triangle to the middle of the green cluster and follow this route into the void (on the galaxy map), you more or less end up at the Witchhead nebula.

O7,
[noob]

Its that or they are very mature barnacles which have grown to this. How else are you going to transport assets across space. fire it in a projectile and hope it lands on a planet intact?!?!?

Finally someone who listens to us. We thargoids have been trying to tell you that is stage 2 of our barnacles! But you ignore us and dismiss it as hogwash. That is why we are superior and you monkeys are still flying in metal and shooting feces at each other.

I am doing Guardians quest at this moment, and i have to say.. There is a sh*t tonns of mentions of something that could have relation with Thargoids. But that is not what i want to say for now. What i want to say, that ALL 3 items UA UL UP are completely unkillable by time. Just like on these capital ship wrecks.. UA UP UL simply can't die while in ruins/capital wrecks sites. I think this is VERY VERY SUSPICIOUS (from a game design perspective). There has to be some reason for that.. But i can't find any yet. Any idea?

Well, what if you engineered a seed that could guide itself like an animal that had a homing instinct to land on certain moons and planets? A living thing like a salmon is like a cruise missile how it tracks down its spawning ground.

Look, for the last time, that was a mis-translation! They're plasma accelerators, not poo accelerators!

Given that I'm back waiting for an RNG UP drop for the second time today you'll forgive my annoyance.
Interesting puzzle design this might be, but engaging gameplay less so.

I guess I could stalk Discord or continually monitor this thread looking for decoded sounds and then try and catch up with the relevant systems but way too much of this is out of game.

Gettting a second UP took me short of three hours. While the whole search/breadcrumb thing is really nice, the UP drop rate is just terrible and makes the whole
experience a good example of what does not work well in ED.

Still, I will try checking the polar opposite of HIP 14909 in the coming days, if time permits.

its very sad that the message played was cryptic in its self, there was no mention of what the threat was only who knew about it. Sorry as far story conclusions go it sucks big time. Salome deserved the get the axe, having a story as bad that it no wonder 99% of the galaxy wanted her gone.

I had my own issues with whole thing from a player-group/faction perspective at the time (I'm sure the salty blog post I wrote on the Canonn site can still be found) but in terms of content, player engagement etc I couldn't disagree more.

I think it was a monumental effort by all, a very neat thread woven throughout the Elite universe, and I think DrewW deserves huge praise for dreaming it up, doing it, pushing it, and executing it in the best way possible.

Anyhoo, this is all a bit o/t isn't it :)

Isn't that the same for all cargo items though? None of them degrade on planet surfaces.

Ultimately the 'canister degrading in space' mechanic is there to prevent another repeat of the legendary biowaste blockade back in 3301.

Absolutely right :)

I've found the more I read about fungus, the guiltier/more terrified I feel about eating mushrooms!

It's also been hypothesised that the optimal temperature range for fungi was one of the evolutionary drivers for warm bloodedness - most fungi can't survive at warm blooded body temperatures, but thrive on cold blooded animals.

AHA! Now we come to the real issue. If we sent these Probes out like we showed you on our map, do you look at where the Probe is going, or do you look at where it is coming from? Do you follow the salmon downstream, follow it through its lifecycle, and hope it lives long enough to make the journey home? Or do you walk the opposite direction of the salmon, go upstream and look for the source?

As a side note we Thargoids find penguins delicious.

I checked this already 3 times. UA UP UL did not die while on ruins site. But on others planets they are dying..

There has to be a reason for that.. Think about it as a game designer. If UA UP UL have no use on ruins site, why whould anyone make them inkillable in 2.3.1 update? Think about it.

I could be wrong, but I don't think UAs/UPs degrade over time on any planetary surface. Maybe no cargo does, not sure.

Anyway, enough of my cynicism.

Is there a flowchart of how signals from each site lead to the next site?
There may be loose ends that aren't being actively chased.

Is that the chocolate bar type of Penguin?
