FDEV - List of approved exploits please

I couldn't care less if you use exploits to shorten your gameplay experience. It's like fast forwarding to the end of a movie. However, it was very predictable that those who used the RNG exploit to PVP gank and play uber-elite online commando force would suddenly care about other exploits, now the white knights have returned since the pillaging was shut down.

Judging by their replies, there are no exploits in the game currently. Quince is a good system and working as intended. The passenger thing in quince was an exploit.

Cheats would include combat logging and the now defunct engineer cheat.

Also how far back is your investigation planning on going?

There have been so many exploits that I fear most of the player base is due a game ban.

With the latest in the long line of exploits in your fine game, you have started to throw around the TOS. Good stuff! Lets stamp out this cheating!

So there is no confusion. Can we please have a list of exploits which you are happy with and ones which now will result in a game ban?

So abusing RNGesus is ban territory. What is the trigger level 1 roll or 100+?
Assuming Combat Logging is in there somewhere?
Credit Exploits? Robigo, Quince, Fehu?
Joining a Multicrew ship, while you are in combat?
Rolling in and our of modes to refresh and stack missions?
Crack Train?

There is no approved exploits.
If you use ANY exploit you are at risk of facing consequences.
Of course especially on exploits that have no major gameplay impact or which can happen by accident easily. You might not Face any consequences.
BUT FD reserves the right to take action IF THEY deem it necessary. So just because you exploited and nothing happened does not mean its allowed or might not be having consequences later.



Also the recent exploit acted upon was not RNG.
It took several complicated steps to reproduce. So chances anyone did it by mistake are insanely low.
Some people complained cause they did it *to try it out* which unfortunately is no excuse.
And got punished.

The fundamental issue is with the explicit interpretation of the term exploit. We can all read a dictionary, but interpreting the definition of a term heavily depends on context.

Where FD are concerned, they seem to be referring to actual "exploiting software bugs" (e.g. the G1/G5 engineering cheat) rather than "exploiting balance concerns" (e.g. long-distance/kill-N-of-X mission stacking). The latter is highly subjective, the former is not.

Overall though, you are right - there is no FD approved list of "software bug exploits" that players can use without possibility of recrimination.

No exploit is "approved". OP is confusing "approved exploits" with "exploits FDev can prove with reasonable certainty and do something about", possibly due to excess salt production due to having his god rolls taken away and somebody combat logging on him.

Well thats the normal Definition of the Rules after all.
The Rules State that your not Allowed to Exploit Bugs.

Bugs are Programming Errors due to which Mechanics that are not Working as Intended.




Thats why for example Combat Logging by just going to the Menu and Exiting the Game during Combat. Is not Prohibited.
While Combat Logging by Crashing the Process is in Fact Prohibited and Acted Upon.

Its also why FD wont be Banning People for using Sothis or something.
Because this is part of the Mechanics. The Mechanics are that a Station Desperate for something will Pay alot for getting it.
So if the Station needs to Deliver something and the Station it wants to Deliver to is 300ly away it will Pay your accordingly.

What many People dont know.
When they Relog for example. They dont Update the Mission Board.
They Change their Instance. And Mission Boards depend on the Instance your in.
Now Relogging to Change Instance is not Prohibited. Its not an Bug or Exploit after all.
If FD wanted they could easily Bind you to an Instance.



What for example might end up with People being Punished is the current abuse of Stacking Missions which share an ID.
Thus causing the Mission to Update despite you never having Accomplished it. But have instead Accomplished an much easier Mission.
Because thats clearly an Bug. Its not an Intended Mechanic. And People constantly abusing it. Might end up being very Sorry for that one Day.
Now its an Bug Exploit that can happen Accidently very Easily. So FD wont be running a Big Hammer like with the Engineer Bug
But I would not Feel Safe in these Peoples Shoes







If you want to know whats allowed and whats not allowed.
The Question you need to Ask is only if this is how its Intended to work. Or if its an Bug thats likely not Intended to work like this.
And Chances are. That if you have even a Basic Human level of Intelligence. Anything that you fail to Identify as an Bug. Will not end up being Punished even if it is one in the End.

Because lets face it.
If you run a Mission and Suddenly all of em Update for the First Location you Visited. You know that this is a Bug.
And if you Stack 9 Expensive Missions for a Target 300ly away and then 1 Cheap Mission for a Target 10ly away. After which you go the 10ly Target and then hand in all 10 Missions.
Then Everyone and his Mom knows THIS IS AN EXPLOIT AND YOU DID IT ON PURPOSE


And anyone seriously claiming he did not realize this as an Exploit. (Sorry for being blunt) is Clearly Brain related to Donald Trump

If Donald Trump Played Elite Dangerous.

He would use Exploits if he can.
And if he is Punished he would Complain that it was not Exploiting, would claim that FD is running a Lying Campaign against him to damage his Reputation and would Try to Sue FD on it.

So I think Its the Perfect Description xD
