Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 10 - The Canonn

I went through all the trouble to get a UP, and so far all I've been able to do (other than see the admittedly dazzling light-show in VR) is go to random systems, drop the UL and hope that it points to a planet when I play the messages. Gotten squat so far, and when I eventually do find something it will no doubt be something already found by a dozen other people.

Making matters worse, all the sites I've been to have since been abandoned by all other players, so it's unproductive AND lonely. :(

I'm fortunate in that while I don't have the time or skill to decode the sound, I still have the ability to record it (thanks be to PC master-race), and have also found another Cmdr who has the ability to both record and decode, so I am basically acting like his backup support with UL/UA/UP secondaries. Beyond that, yes you do have to do a bit more effort, but I feel like there is also a lot that's being missed that doesnt require as much as these coordinate searches.

Okay, so everyone's seen the main chamber with the starmap machine that requires a UA, a UP, and a UL.

I was cruising around the site in HIP 15443 since it was discovered and posted, and in the interior tunnels I found what appears to be a side room with three seats or pods or something. It's noticable because they have a tri-lense looking thing above them and the glowy strand things (like in the starmap machine when it grabs a U-something). Anyone thrown anything in that room yet?

That room is where you can get the UL's

Ooooh, nice. Didn't realize that. I've only been scanning this thread for the high points, musta missed that somewhere. How? Blast something?

When you take the UP and/or the UA into that room the UL's will come down from those pedestals. Sometimes it's bugged so you will have to relog but that is how you get the UL's. I usually land at a site. then relog while in my ship then head inside, this makes it so the UL's appear right away instead of getting in there and then finding out it's bugged.

Has anyone been outside when the Thargoid structure goes hostile by using a guardian relic? Looking down over the top of the center I couldn't help but wonder if those pulses were like a weapon firing straight up?

I wondered a similar thing, as there's a good five minutes to play with when it turns hostile, if during that time there's more going on elsewhere (another room or outside) or even if the game was trying to encourage you to leave in a hurry and possibly witness something outside.

Tried this last night. Checked the 2 Link rooms (are there always 2? visited so many sites now, I can't remember) and got outside to look down into the center. No change I'm afraid.

I had an idea that maybe there are more active sites the farther from the bubble we go.

I took all the current sites and got the Distance from Sol value from EDDB.

There does seem to be a general trend that active sites are farther away, but it's not conclusive. Maybe worth keeping an eye on, though.

Hmm...seems the forum strips my formatting...makes the following hard to read. Sorry about that.

In summary, all of the inactive sites are less than 405 ly from SOL. Most of the active sites are more than 400 ly from SOL (6 are not).

Might be expected if the mycoid was released near Sol and the nearest are therefore the hardest hit

TBH, I would say its a plausible hypothesis. There are many possible explanation to what we know and observe, and this is just one of them.
EVEN if it came to be true, still doesn't explain the biggest mistery of all: Why do the Thargoids use morse code?

Before anyone says "dude, this is a game", remember that David Braben wanted to make the aliens "truly aliens". If he keeps his word, there must be an explanation on why they use this human language.

In science special cases often tell you something new. There may be some hypotheses hidden in those odd four

It usually means your theory is borked :)

Thanks CMDRs,
I'm still trying to get a UP, so I haven't even done the correct configuration yet :)
I am trying to get the UP myself since days. Yesterday I figured out how to trigger USS in general. You have to travel at 200 - 250 km/s and the distance to the planet should be a bit below 15Mm. Using the ADS apparently helps triggering USS. With this method I got serveal USS in a short period of time - including the UP specific but it was completly empty. Maybe this was a bug... anyway I quit after not getting any USS for 15min straight. New day, new chance.

I dont think you need to do anything besides orbit at a certain distance & speed. 18+Mm distance @ 1Mm/s speed and I usually find one within 10 minutes.
