Any News on getting additional Ground Vehicles aside from the Standard SRV ?

As Title Says.
Its been a while we started Driving around.
Aint it time we got some more Options on what we Drive around with ?

I mean Fighters were Released in 3 Classes with like 4-5 different Setups each Class.
Yet we got exactly 1 SRV in Total.
 
As the SRV needs to fold up to fit in the current ship bay, I guess that would either mean new ships with bigger SRV bays or have them for rental at ground based ports?

I'd also like to see some others and NPCs driving them around...
 
If a 2-man SRV is envisaged, First, FD Devs have to make their mind up whether we have a "real" presence or a telepresence. Hopefully, the former in the longer term.

I suspect this telepresence issue may be holding back new stuff.
 
A hovercraft would be nice, but I doubt Frontier could design something like that. Perhaps it would lack a cargo bay (the Scarab can carry 2T), and maybe it'd have a slightly lower top speed, but it wouldn't have as much trouble getting around in rugged / low gravity terrain.
 
A hover speeder bike :) ...... but it couldn't carry anything, and probably couldn't carry enough armaments to raid a base.

This old chestnut...this topic seems to appear once every few weeks which Im actually happy to see because I would agree by saying additional ground vehicles would be very welcome indeed. I still hope fer tracked vehicles which are designed with extremely difficult terrain in mind but one can dream...

On very long trips into the black, I would take 4 SRV as opposed to two or even just the one based on the part where while I am a decent driver, (legend in my own mind), Im also one who takes a lotta risks and I tend to lose a few now and then, especially when trying to build my speed up over a hundred on dodgy terrain. So theres certainly enough srv space in the hangar to take maybe one standard srv and one much more specialized srv.

In that respect, the dynamics of the hanger doesnt need to be changed at all, just the addition of a different type of srv designed fer a different scenario.

Thing is, we shot ourselves in the foot with FD when we asked fer bug fixes and QOL stuff, and they finally caved in and said yes. So like in any thread that asks fer new content, one merely has to point to the part where they said their entire next "season" will be QOL improvements. Actual new content, or lack off will literally now be down to their good graces of mixing bits and pieces of content and QOL ^

The likes of a star wars type hoverbike already exists...it just has a canopy now and are called fighters. But...I wouldnt say no to an AT AT or one of those silly two legged versions that look like stoned ostriches ^

  • Battlezone Style Hover Tanks!
  • Remote Controlled Skimmers!
  • Deployable Folding Gunship!
  • Mechs!
  • SAVs (Surface Assault Vehicles), more boom, less zoom.
  • SUVs (lol. Surface Utility Vehicles), more cargo space, ability to repair the ships hull and power plant. No weapons.
  • Outfittable SRVs, SAVs and SUVs.

With the option of big custom sound systems so we could forego the cargo hold and fill it with a pair of 4 way amps and dual subwoofers that point directly into the wee bubble of glass at the front...maybe a disco ball and some internal laser lights...

A new larger hanger might be necessary for larger SRV types, but I agree, that doesn't change "the dynamics of the hanger". Similar sized SRVs (to the Scarab) shouldn't require much additional programing (if any). That's mostly work for the art department, so it shouldn't distract from the QOL improvements. Actually, there is (potentially) a lot of content that could be added, without needing much programming: more station types, more ship types, more rare good types, more paintjobs and ship kits, etc.
 
If they're going to expand on the SRV suite they should do it properly and make them configurable with modules like ships are, and apply an appropriate damage model to the modules.

Small, medium and large SRV frames, with an increasing number of available slots and requiring an increasingly large ship module bay.
The 'immersion' crowd are going to complain about whether the damn things fit through the bay doors, but sometimes you need to let the game be more important than the realism (YMMV).
 
Just let us use/fly/drive skimmers. The models already exist in game, they have working flight models etc. Just need to do new cockpit or just re use one of the fighters cockpit.

I was about to post that myself. It would seem a no brainer, given that they actually exist in the game already. They could act as automatic drones that you could deploy to look for, scan and tag material deposits. Perhaps have a smaller bay that holds about 3 of them. Send them off and when you start getting a few locations tagged, then deploy your SRV to go grab the stuff. Would beat the hours of aimless driving around that materials gathering currently employs.

I like this idea too.
You can also then have NPCs deploy skimmers to chase your SRV, instead of them railgunning your SRV in to orbit. :p

I've basically made a detailed suggestion about every item on that list. Lol

I would just like some more options besides the General Purpose vehicle we have right now. At minimum, I would like to see:
  • One with better sensors and is equipped to harvest materials, either yielding more materials or a core that can be returned and sold, similar to exploration data.
  • A mining vehicle which would harvest ores from planetary surfaces, and returned to your ship for refining.
  • A dedicated combat vehicle.
  • A cargo transport capable of carrying more canisters.

It was always funny thinking about the weapons fire hitting the glass canopy and thinking to oneself how strong it was...feels wrong wondering why our ships aren't made of glass if it's stronger than armour plating...gamewavium moment.

Would be cool to see some sorta effort made to at least attempt armour plating on a canopy as one assumes this to be a weak spot and a particularly vulnerable area.

Custom body kits fer existed srv maybe?
