Any reason I shouldn't buy a Type 9?

The cutter outclasses it but some still seem to enjoy flying a type 9.

Thats because the T9 is awesome - slightly flawed logic-wise - but still packing that Lakon coolness.
And, after running hundreds of Fed missions (and still being an Ensign) it is not rank-locked.
FD better have a 10 year plan for me to see a Cutter at this pace.

T9 is a gateway ship to the Cutter, very little to reason to use one after that. If however you do not own a Cutter then the T9 is a very good choice personally I think the T9 needs a little rebalance tlc to boost its cargo above the Cutter.

You might want to run some Imperial missions for that Cutter! ;)

I use my T9 as a trader, my Cutter is a chrome, shield tanking bringer of death and destruction. It carries 64t cargo and a 1st class cabin, other than that it is all about war!

Nope.

Oh heavens no, the Type9 is really bad. Only if you can upgrade the FSD to over 15Ly it will become useful.

I found that going below 15ly(ish)in jumprange will force you to make weird detours because you just can't reach certain stars needed for a good route.
An un upgraded T9 barely has a jumprange of 12, a lot of trade routes are out of reach.
The Python already struggles with it's jump range, the T9 is so much worse.

Keep the Python, for quality of CMDR life purposes.

Nope.

Well yes I realize the Cutter is an Imperial ship.
And heck yea the 1000t T9, designed and built from the keel up to haul cargo, should haul more cargo then the multi-purpose 1100t Cutter.

Yeah, I wouldn't say no to more cargo capacity on the T9, just getting fed up with the constant refrain [not by you!] of the Cutter only being good for trading. Yes, one can reduce it to a mere trading vessel, it can carry loads of stuff. I used mine as a trading vessel in order to fully 'A' rate her. But once you stick in a class 8 SCB, to go with the class 8 shield, and once you engineer it to within an inch of its life, weapons included, with a dual fighter bay, SRV, etc, you aren't dealing with a trading ship anymore.

My Cutter has been attacked numerous times by those commanders who are currently grinding in solo having had their God weapons confiscated, and never once was I destroyed, not once. In fact, I've done a fair bit of lethal self defence PvP. As for CZ's? Well, I leave when the ammo runs out.

There is no cow paint for this vessel. This could be an entire pack, with 3 skins. Kit includes horns. A big bell on a ribbon may be going a bit toooo far, but you KNOW the horns would sell by themselves even at $5.99.

I posted this in another thread; but I feel it is still relevant to this thread:

I had a type 9, well suited to bulk cargo, along with a few other ships when I had my X-box. When I switched over to the PC (primarily for the HOTAS) I had money and no ship. At that point I thought about what I wanted and decided to spend it all on one ship. I got an Anaconda.

Even though the Anaconda is also fitted out for cargo, I am a lot happier with it. It is just easier to fly and makes longer jumps. The longer jumps are important because I am able to make longer cargo runs. I understand that the Anaconda is a lot more expensive; but it was a better choice for me.

I actually liked flying the T9. It felt like what it was, a purpose built cargo ship; unfortunately it is too limited. It really needs another size 8, or even 9, slot limited to cargo racks to make it what it is, a huge cargo ship. Pilots who consider themselves to be dedicated traders should not be aspiring for non-trade ship as the best trader ships. The best trade ship should simply be, the best trade ship.

Yeah, I'd spring for horns. :)

I think there is a classic interwebs forum PEBCAK issue going on in this thread. Some folk, myself included, actually like the simulation of flying the T9, which has been deliberately modelled to feel heavy, cumbersome and difficult to fly gracefully. We actually like that stuff, right?

True story:

I was running goods in a T9 for a CG. Got pirated by another player, had some class exchanges via comms, gave him some cargo, went on my merry way. Later on, at the CG station, he messaged me to say thanks for being a good sport, and said something along the lines of, "Man, seeing you fly a T9 like that is something else, I just watched you dock it!"

One of my best moments in ED. For a second, I felt like 777Driver! ;)

One day of trade, and I love this ship, awesome, don't know why there is a lot of complains about that it is hard to fly them, for me Beluga is harder, because of the fins and length, I've got hmy T9 A rated, milgrade 1668 hull Integrity , 500 cargo, when fully loaded jump range is around 16-17Ly, so for me it is ok, I was afraid that it will be no more than 12-13Ly. I'm in love with this ship, it's magical sesnse, hull design and warm lights...

It is an easy ship to love. I keep contemplating going back to one; I just would like it to be the obvious go-to ship for traders to work toward.

777Driver has always gotten the point of the big ships. Hearing him speak (well, reading him typing >__> ) about being on the "bridge" of the large vessels and how it's a whole other style of piloting; you really understand the appeal (well I did) of learning to operate some giant piece of machinery. He talks about the sense of perspective in VR helping a lot and I can see how being way more there would contribute greatly.

For a good comparison, I'm quite sure most folks here except for those with acrophobia wouldn't pass up the chance to drive one of those IRL building-sized dump trucks. To me this is the same thing except waaay easier to arrange. I occasionally Clipper around so I have a taste of the vibe but it's nice that the heavies are out there for people who are looking for Fun With Spaceships: BBW Edition. To me, if a pilot is having fun with any given ship then they have won Elite; the details are up to them.

Hopefully it will be someday.
Sandro mentioned about a year ago here about a T9 "buff" but in what form and when has never been revealed.
Hope he (or FD) hasn't forgot about it.

Nicely put, Commander. :)
