PSA : exercise extreme Caution when attempting to land at any Planetary Base !

I already posted a bug report days ago. Of course, experience has taught us that the connection between the timing of bug reports and the timing of the fix is tenuous. Might not be something that can be fixed server-side.

Aggravating the situation (for me, at least) is that the ONLY shipyard in the entire Pleiades sector has to be a surface port.

The funny thing is, I noticed this bug immediately after 2.3.10 dropped, so how could something so obvious slip past the devs?

Because you weren't beta-testing 2.3.10? [woah] (Don't hit me!) :x

FWIW, I didn't beta test 2.3, and am now stuck with bug causing lack of planetary (Horizon) missions. Can't believe that no-one noticed that during beta-testing...

Elite Dangerous seems too much of a big/complicated game for FDev to test properly on their own now. (Actually I think it always has been. It's a simulation that has so many corner cases it's basically untestable.)

That skimmer "disable-thrusters-and-shields-on-impact" is just outright stupid. I lost 30 mil rebuy long ago because of this crap. And now it seems like it's getting worse.

So......was this bug in Beta? Or did it just appear in 2.3.10? If it was in Beta how was this missed? (no I wasn't in Beta since I'm on Xbox).

I don't remember seeing it in the bug reporting forum, but it wouldn't be the first time that a bug has been introduced between a final beta and a live release. I'm not sure why that happens, as it seems to defeat the very purpose of a public beta, but it has happened before.

Yeah, you're not wrong there. Not the first time this has happened.

I don't get it, the code deployed from beta is the same code that's deployed on live so I'm curious how these post-beta bugs slip through testing. If the code is the same then perhaps its a database issue.

Oh well, I guess no visits to surface outposts in my ships until this gets fixed.

I am grinding to ensign at the moment and it is killing my ability to turn in missions as I am too afraid to go near outposts now. Losing 9.5 million along with cargo and associated fines is too much to risk.

Saw that today for the first time. Lol :)

Also after falling all the way they seem to make a hole in the ground and disappear - that at least is realistic!

Hi CMDR,

Thanks for getting in touch with us regarding a recent ship death.

I am sorry to hear that you've recently been destroyed due to a collision with a skimmer, those little things can certainly be a nuisance at times and I understand it would have been hard to avoid if you were using the docking computer. I saw an assault charge against you so I believe this is likely the case indeed. :)

Regarding the avoidance specifically, I believe if these things are present it might be for the best to assume manual control so can dodge it.

To help you out I've added 10,320,470 credits to cover the cost of your rebuy, I hope that this helps! :)

Kind regards,

This is the response from FDev. Just avoid them. You guys can do that in a Cutter, right? Imagine you're a Dallas Cowboy wide receiver and the skimmers are footballs. There should never be any contact.

I am still baffled that my sensors that can see ships cannot see skimmers.

Yet, my tiny SRV can see fighters and skimmers just fine...

Yeah me too.... lost cutter last night 17.5 mil rebuy...... I hope fdev are refunding pilots this happens to

Well Crap, Landed at a colonia sytem planet on the way back to the bubble, is it safe to leave or does this only effect arrivals? I have like 48-49 million of exploration data on board too would hate to lose that - all those discovery tags. Also how the heck would I prove that I had the discoveries I had to support... Damn was hoping to get the PP buff with it and whatever other things I find on the way back. Maybe that's not a great idea.

Edit: Pilot Log do you need seperate software or is that something ingame that I didn't know about?

Leaving AFAIK is no issue, although you can look around to visually spot Skimmers being properly on the Ground (use external Cam).
Only when being the 1st in an Instance and arriving, they'll start popping down as soon as you approach ~3.5km-4km from the Installation and below some ~2-3km Altitude.

The Client Journal storage location on a Windows machine w/ standard Installation should be here :
C:\Users\{YourUserName}\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous
