When would you consider Elite Dangerous "complete"?

ORRERY MAP - THIS GAME WILL NEVER BE COMPLETED REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH CONTENT IT IS UNLESS IT HAS ONE!

Not in any particular order:
  1. Greater ship selection ( I'm think in the region of at least 25 ships per faction, a few alien ships wouldn't go amiss either )
  2. Greater ship customisation, using modular based ship design ( see Star Trek Online for an idea of what I mean here ) )
  3. Comprehensive single player campaign that introduces players to ED and gets the ball rolling
  4. Planetary landings completed, with atmo, accurately generated ELW's, with cities ( Earth might be a bit of a problem though ).
  5. Legs ( with completely open space stations, social interactions, ship-to-ship boarding etc )
  6. Social interactions drawing players together ( perhaps force players to disembark from their ships and walk to the Bar ( if Pirate ), or Mission Briefing )
  7. Greater job selection that has more meaning, and deeper impact on the galaxy
  8. Greater in-game tools for various jobs ( bounty hunting boards, in-game version of EDDB etc )

Stuff like that

It's a non-question.

As an MMO it will be finished when the servers are switched off.

Actually once they have the core features working as intended or what was promised during kickstarter then I'd be happy as I'd have what I paid for.

Atmospheric planets and space legs are not really that important to me, if we ever get them, great, if not, no big deal.

I bought a game where I could have fun flying a spaceship, we've got the spaceship bit, once we get the fun bit I'm good, the rest is a bonus :)

Technically Elite is a complete game, but it's an incomplete vision in its current form. I'm sure the developers and players have their idea of when its finished...

When FDEV release the server code so you can run your own BGS. Around 2024 at a guess.

For me Elite will be completed when all the physical game mechanics are in place.

Atmosphere landings. Legs. Outposts & stations you're able to walk around. Dynamic and relevant flora and fauna on breathable planets. Exploration on foot. Cave systems.. proper multicrew where friends live, spawn on and co-exist communally on a ship. space walking, and being able to repair your ship in person from the outside or inside depending on damage.

When grind is replaced with gameplay.

When the only thing FDEV have to worry about is the political layer of the galaxy. Invasions, disease, expansion, wars and villains.

TLDR; Once you have a living, breathing galaxy.. then the only thing you need worry about are the races, factions and conflicts of political tug of war.

For me its the day they say no more new features and I`m bored of the game. guessing its a few years away:)

I may consider Elite complete when either:

1. I can walk across the hanger from me krait. Step into a my Moray star-boat and launch the ship to an ocean world and when going underwater I can then launch my SRV sorry Submersible to explore the ocean floor.

2. when the ships from all the past iterations of Elite, Frontier and Encounters are in Elite Dangerous.

But in truth Elite was complete when the ships were wire framed. the music was synthesized and an encounter with the Thargoids meant you broke into a cold sweat and swearing knowing you were going to see the words GAME OVER again and again and again ect.

Elite has come a long way in thirty years and will go a lot further. RIGHT ON COMMANDER. O7
