Hazardous Cargo Hauling Career

An idea stolen from a thread about Bigger Corrosive Resistant Cargo Racks in the DDF, so all credit goes to whoever posted it originally.

Anyhoo. *If* you were to add more types of human hazardous cargo to the game, you could create a new fairly well paid career for hazardous materials transport.

A few things would need to happen first though.
Corrosive Resistant Cargo Racks would need to become more widely available.
I'd suggest a CG to get CRCRs made available in more stations, and in larger sizes. However, the top largest sizes (class 6+) would still only be available at Palin's base.
Due to the price some alien artifacts can fetch, I'd also suggest making these racks cost around 1,000,000cr per tonne, roughly, to balance them out.

Because UA bombing would be made far easier with this, I'd suggest nerfing their effect to compensate. Same with meta alloys, I guess? (Not too familiar with this system anyway)

So once all that is done, you can go about implementing the Hazardous Materials Careers. :)

These would basically be missions and free floating cargo, and NPCs.

Missions could include;
  • Transport to another station.
  • Salvage/Clean up from surface or space POIs/USSs.
  • Source hazardous materials.
  • Smuggling of hazardous materials.
  • Destruction of ship(s) carrying hazardous materials.
  • Piracy of ships with hazardous materials.

With that done, it would also be realistic if ditching hazardous cargo near a station or port was actually very illegal, and gains you a massive fine, or even a bounty.

It's probably not possible, but it would also be good if you could target these CRCRs as a sub system, once they drop below a certain % integrity, they can begin to lose their ability to contain hazardous materials, and completely lose their protection at 0%. This would be a secondary way to force ships to ditch their cargo and keep it for yourself. :D
Heat would also damage these modules. I'd also suggest they use power...? (Not sure if they do already) switching them off disables the protection from corrosion.

Thoughts?

+1. It would be great to hope your cargo gold won't explode after few lucky hits from that sidewinder behind you. People would be targetting also something else than just the power plant :D

It would be very interesting to see what would happen if you loaded up a Cutter is 300t (CRCRs are half size aren't they?) of corrosive cargo, then switched the cargo racks off. :p
