Engineers Different Engineers?

basically, you want to level both to G3/4 ;-)

hera tani does powerplant upgrades to grade 5. now, i haven't done any G5 powerplant mod. G1 overcharged, or some G3 low emission for exploration builds.
but she also gives access at g3/4 to broo tarquin who does lasers to G5. so, if you want to mod your lasers to G5, you anyway want her to level to G3/4.

marco qwent doesnt do any G5 upgrades.
but he gives access to palin at G3/4, who does thruster G5 upgrades. so if you plan to get those G5 thrusters dirty or clean, you anyway want to level qwent. if you don't, as you anyway don't want access to palin, which will include a 5000 ly travel, you can skip qwent.

i'm using qwent quite often despite him being a "stepping stone" - his base is very central for powerplant mods, and he does G3 distributor mods, which i use for non-combat ships (engine focussed, doesn't come in G4 and G5), and my mining ships (WEP focussed, same).

Marco? Dirty Drives?

Is this sarcasm, or are you mistaking Marco with Palin?

marco unlocks dirty drives in so far, as you need to have G3/G4 with him to gain access to palin in the first place, which is the only one doing those G5 thruster upgrades.

Marco Qwent does serve a useful purpose beyond unlocking palin. If you need a PP overcharged, you don't always need g5 (in fact in most cases you don't ). Qwent is a lot more centrally located than the other powerplant engineer. I have used him quite a bit for g1-g4 pp upgrades because of his relative proximity to founders.

Tru dat... i use G4 for most of my fleet ... only odd time do i need to push for G5

looks as if you never tried a shielded refinery or reinforced prospector limpets!

Are these limpets that can take more than a minor collision with a snowflake before 'splodin?

if so - i might need to outfit my strip-mining cutter with them
